As a little boy, I enjoyed this show. It was so entertaining and I wish it would have been on longer. It was the first time stand-up comedy was used in a game show. If GSN decided to make a revival of this show, it should stay like it was in the late 70s. As for cash rewards, contestants should get $5 for each second they don't laugh and if they make it through all three minutes, they would get $2000.
The 1979-80 version of Make Me Laugh was the longest-running game show hosted by Bobby Van, God rest his soul. The two others that he hosted, Showoffs (ABC, 1975; he was the last-minute replacement for Larry Blyden, God rest his soul, who was killed in a car incident while traveling in Morocco) and The Fun Factory (NBC, 1976) were both short-lived. Incidentally, Bobby's version of MML was syndicated, and also, The Fun Factory debuted on NBC on the same day in 1976 with a show that would become legendary: The Gong Show.

If they bring this show back, they should go for $5 a second & $1800
Such a short lived, obscure but AWESOME game show! Thanks for posting! I don't know why this wasn't more popular! The theme song is soooooo 1970s! :)
I remembered this short-lived game show "Make Me Laugh" starring Bobby Van on USA Network, back when I was about 6 or 7 years old!!!
I watched those in the afternoon after school. Great times.
