      My home owner’s association would have a COW if we tried to have a front yard this heavily planted. But... they usually leave us alone re: the back yard. I am most impressed that after several back surgeries and in chronic pain, she is doing all of this!!!! She isn’t complaining, but she is not comfortable if she is still wearing a back brace. Bless her. She’s amazing.

    Most plants are edible according to a group of enthusiastic people I met in North Italy a few years ago. They didn't just talk, we went walking in the hills surrounding the town where I lived - a 5 minute walk - and collected all sorts of plants, herbs and vines. Then they cooked risotto with the plants we gathered at the local Italian Alpine Club: it was delicious!

    Very interesting lady and I admire her stamina and go do it attitude! This is the way we are meant to live! I know my great grandparents came to Canada from Germany and grew their food , raised cows etc. Hard work was done. They traded with the indigenous people and I still have a corn basket that they used. I also grew up with a big back yard garden full of vegetables , and an apple tree, raspberries, and strawberries. And visited my grandmother's huge garden with cherry and peach trees and lots of veggies. We shared with our neighbors and often invited friends for supper on weekends. We were poor financially, but did our best!

    @PaleGhost69 Před 3 lety +56

    Pardon the copypasta but I thought a previous comment I made was relevant to what this wonderful woman was saying.
    Permaculture could change the world as we know it. Imagine a world where all the lawns are replaced with food forests. Bountiful fresh food within an arms reach of your door. It would bring our society to it's knees and make people question if this system really is so good. With daily meals free to everyone, the biggest whip of the masses is useless. People would see that their jobs are just a means of obtaining a daily meal, giving them more bargaining power and freedom to choose what they want to do. The workers of the world break their chains and create a society that meets everyone's basic needs. A society that allows people to work towards their own goals and society's advancement in their own way without forcing themselves into servitude of people seeking a bigger high score.
    Obesity, hunger, climate change, water scarcity, wage slavery, homelessness, child poverty, depression, anxiety, isolation, supply line shortages, famine, mass extinctions, deforestation, animal cruelty.
    We just need to take one small step. One small step to freedom. One small step towards tomorrow. That world is here. Waiting for us to make the first move.

    One must be an awesome individual to see life from this perspective and to take initiative to create in this manner. I see beauty, nourishment, creativity.....just so much! Respect!

      @@chandrikatilwalli4741 I wish I could. I'm new to where I live. I also live in an apt without a patio so I only have room for a few indoor plants. When I have a house with a big yard like Chantal, I'd love to follow in her footstep & connect with Mother Earth while helping my community. She Is Inspiring :)

      @@kollettevan9746 I am sending good positive thoughts you way . You know that your going to have a house and a garden. . You can look into renting a space in the community garden for the season . In our area village offers a plot of 20 \30 area for nominal price. You can also look into green stalk planters , you can grow greens and herbs indoors. I am glad you have indoor plants. I think you are going to be a leader like Chantel . Wish you all the best.

    Chantal is an inspirational life force! I can totally relate with her connection with bush roses, ancestral plants and loved one’s memories! I’m sure she will be remembered for a long time as a loving, wise and generous human being by many people. Thank you!

    I love that she shared the history of the Aloe Vera that was brought over by enslaved family on ships to America. She is AMAZING!
