- There's already tons of videos about Plaits 1.2 on YT, so I am a bit late to the party. But it's a party indeed! Eight new modes with over a 100 new presets. How's that? Because mode 03, 04 and 05 each have 32. You can find the firmware on the Mutable Forum.

Oh wow, as someone who hadn't really clicked with Plaits when first sitting down with it, these modes make a lot more sense to me. Give me a fist sized DX7 and some RP2A03 raw Nintendo sounds and I'm a very happy girl. All that said, the terrain synthesis really caught me off guard. Not sure if it's the novelty or just the possibilities of long drones, but that's super fun and I can't wait to hear what people do with it. Now I'm even more intrigued by your intentions on honing into a Mutable arsenal.
I love how the last mode calls back to one of her first modules, Edges
it was my first mutable and i still have it among all the others except elements. they will stay forever!!!
I've been hunting for one two years ago and found one second hand. So happy with it. I only made one video about it, but that was in the very early days of the Lab.

20 of the MI modules live on in VCV Rack. Basic VCV Rack is free and the MI modules are free under the Audible Instruments name along with over 2300 other modules. Thanks for the video!
I think I've wrote that in every MI video. Modular synthesis doesn't have to be expensive and you don't need real modules to enjoy the workflow. Also, the PC/Mac is the most powerful modular you can get and you can experiment with any number of plaits, marbles, tides, stages, frames, etc, etc.
with all the excitement and everyone making videos about the new FM modes I didn't realize there was an octave mode, having a set C is so very very useful, especially in a smaller case
Actually this is my favorite new feature, but the new sounds are amazing.

That’s my favorite new feature, I despise manual frequency knobs on oscillators lol. I always struggled keeping Plaits playing friendly with other modules. I would love Rings to get the same treatment.

Hi, can you share a little about what modules you use with and following Plaits to get that sound and if you're using two of them? I got my software updated but it sounds like you at least have a strong reverb and delay and just wondering if you're using anything else. Thanks; this has been very informative and that sound at 7:06 to 7:10 is gorgeous.
I am using the Desmodus Versio reverb to patch the two Plaits outputs to the L/R channel. This gives me a huge ambience. I am using Marbles and the 266T source of uncertainty to drive the modules' trigger, pitch and modulation. Check out my 266T video to see more of what's going on. I am using Beads instead of DV in that video. I always end up with the Bat Verb in most of my patches because it's so small. For more info, search for 'the bat verb' on my channel if you wish.
@@CinematicLaboratory oh I am a huge fan of Desmodus, I actually have 3 Versios in my rig usually switching up the different firmwares. The Desmodus is definitely my favorite though Electus works if you need tight clocking on the tails. Thanks! Your videos are really inspirational; best in class super wide atmosphere vibes 😁

I was lucky enough to get into modular just in time to buy Plaits new. I’ve since picked up Ripples and a v1 Tides, but I’ve probably forever missed the boat with Stages. This firmware- which I spent a whole day playing with when it dropped- is a nice little consolation. Still want a Stages though…
You might have a hard time finding originals now and clones are expensive because of the semiconductor shortage, with it requiring the STM32 chips.

Not a problem, Behringer has just announced a firmware update with all new modes (saying that this is why they put an USB port on the face, to ease such updates, which is not the case of the original). So hardware is not incompatible, there are some differences (the USB port for updates ans the screen that will display name of DX7 presets, what the Plaits will never be able to do) but the main circuitry is of course the same (Brains was built to use the original firmware in the easiest way possible of course).
How many people like R E A D I N G a video?
I don't know the numbers but it's complementary to people who like voiceovers. But I don't sound as good as Mylar Melodies so using captions was a wise choice.
The advantage of no talking is that there is more music 😄 .
Actually found that useful while following the update steps. Cinematic Laboratory has great production quality; take notes and maybe you’ll learn something 😉
Those of us with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) GREATLY appreciate captions.
