Let's Talk Corner Rounders, Separating the Best from the Rest

  • Since making this video, I've found a corner rounder that I like even more than these. It's available on Amazon and is called a Sunstar Kadomaru Pro corner rounder...here's the link to it. tinyurl.com/yd4wo4p5 It has three choices for sizes of corners and the lever is easy to push.
    In the end, the corner rounder punches that I felt were most effective at consistent and accurate corner rounding were
    1. Becky Higgins Project Life Corner Rounder best price is Michaels $7.99 before coupon
    2. Creative Memories on Ebay, roughing $7 with shipping for a new one and on the Creative Memories website $10.50 plus shipping.
    This video was done without endorsement from any product and my opinions are strictly my own. I am really happy if you have a corner rounder punch that works for you. I did this reseach because I wanted to find the corner rounder punch that would work best for me and for others with physical limitations. My videos are for all crafters but can be used as tools for persons with physical limitations to help them find products that work more effectively given those limitations.

    That's exactly my problem!! I try and try many of them and I always come to the same conclusion. I can’t trust them! I can’t believe it’s so difficult to create a reliable tool for such a seemingly simple task😤🤬. So thank you for sharing your experience and advice❤️👍🏼

      I have to say that I absolutely love the Kadomaru Pro Corner Rounder and it's worked well for me and is probably one of my favorite craft room products. I don't think you'll be disappointed if you buy one. The only place I know that sells it is Amazon, but it might be available elsewhere...When I bought mine, it was around $10, but the price has gone up on Amazon since then. Let me know what you think of it if you do buy it...saundralparker@yahoo.com Sandy

    Thankyou so much for doing this. Everyone always says 'do your own research' but imagine how much time and money gets wasted on inferior products. Whereas if everyone knows which product works it would be up to the companies to prove and market that they have improved on the next model

      Glad you liked the video. Yes, it's not cheap figuring out which products work best, and even after making this video, I finally found "the one." If you didn't see the information below the video, I truly only recommend the Kadomaru Pro corner rounder you find on Amazon. It's the only product I own that I gush about and I use it all the time and it's never let me down. You can watch it in action in this video at 8:25 czcams.com/video/_tQWY8M1Bw8/video.html. I'm sorry to hear about your health issues. Life can sometimes be unfair, that's for sure. My hands actually don't hurt so that's the great part. I started this channel for people like us because we didn't have a voice in the crafting community and that wasn't right. I wanted to show tools we could use that would work for US and so I've done this type video with almost every product you can think of. I just finished a video on black inks and made sure I used nine different inks on three different card stocks plus watercolor paper and used water based markers, alcohol markers and watercolor to show which inks worked best on certain papers and certain coloring mediums. I wanted to show that you don't have to buy Neenah paper to get good results and that's exactly what the stamping showed. I know so many people with physical limitations (I was told not to use the terms disabled or handicapped, so I try not to) are on fixed income, and so I also try to consider income when I'm doing these videos as well. I'm so glad you found my channel and hope you'll check out more of my videos. Let me know if you'd like to see anything in particular or any tools you can't find that work for you. When I started crafting, I spent so much money on things that wouldn't work for me and it made me so frustrated. I really hope you'll find tools that will work for you. I'm not sure if you own a MISTI or not, but I just bought a Stamp Perfect from Hampton Arts and am going to do a comparison with my MISTI because the price of the MISTI is ridiculous and I'm really hoping the Stamp Perfect is easier for me to use. The MISTI lid is really thick and I have trouble stamping bigger images with it (and sometimes rub my foot across it, don't tell!) so the lid on the Stamp Perfect is thinner. Not sure how soon that video will be up, but I bought it for $15 today and am happy to give it a try. Please leave me a note anytime, I love talking to people about why we need this site. If you have any friends with health issues, please send them to my site as it's hard to get the word out about it to people who really need it. Sandy

    Thank you for doing this video. I have the CM corner rounder for years. I like it for photos, and cards- one layer of card stock only. I also have Crocodile one. I bought the Sunstar Kadomaru Pro corner rounder that you recommended and I cannot tell you how GREAT it is! I was mostly using the corner rounder on my WRMK envelope punch board. I think it worked good but was sometimes hard to punch when sitting and trying to punch card stock and my husband already had to "fix" after I jammed it! I also had a Fiskars squeeze punch which worked OK but it only made a very small rounded edge. I have talked so much about this Kadomaru Pro....people think I should go to work for them! I LOVE IT!! As far as I am concerned...the japanese have really mastered all the angles for making a lightweight punch that works great with very VERY little effort! I love this thing!! I have also watched quite a few of your videos and have enjoyed your teaching very much.

      +Wavejumper I absolutely hate that weird edge. One viewer thought I was moving my left hand but when I use the one from Creative Memory, I never get the weird edge but it's not as easy to hold as the others. I really do love the one from Becky Higgins for Project Life. I hate it when I spend money on something like this and it doesn't work like I think it should. Get that nail file out, you'll be so happy once you shave off that weird spot. Thanks for the comments! Sandy

    Thank you for doing this video! I was thinking about getting the Cropodile one, and I'm glad for the warning that it takes some hand strength to use. If you want to try one that's like the Becky Higgins one but makes more rounded corners, I have a Recollections one that I got from Michael's. It looks nearly identical to the Becky Higgins one, so I think it's probably from the same manufacturer -- the sort of petal-shaped rounded bits on the base are the identical -- but it cuts a half-inch radius round and does a decent job of it. It's the only one I've ever used, so I can't compare it to anything else, but I've only had a couple of cuts come out funny-looking, mostly when I wasn't careful lining the paper up.

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  Před 8 lety

      +Daisy Fraser Wreath Thanks for the scoop on the Recollections punch. The Crop-a-dile was a real eye opener for me because I thought it would do a much better job of rounding the corners even when I rested it on the table. I actually have used the Creative Memory punch forever and love the results but hate the way I have to press my whole forearm against it to get it to punch. I hate it when I have to buy a lot of products to find one I love. I'm going to do a comparison of blending tools next as some are harder to hold and have weird results. Stay tuned for it and thanks for watching..

    I am getting frustrated with corner punches too. We waste a lot of cardstock trying to get even shapes on all four corners. My Zutter corner rounder doesn't work. I was advised by my craft shop owner to buy We R Memory Keepers envelope maker for rounding my corners, but I couldn't get the thing to punch. It worked for her! I have an X-cut 2-in-1 which cuts rounded and inverted corners. Perhaps it's me, but the inverted corners don't look an even shape on all corners. The cardstock doesn't go in far enough for the rounded corners.
    I think one of the problems is plastic and metal don't work well together.
    I can see what you mean about dexterity problems with the We R Memory Keepers Corner Chomper, but your cardstock wasn't straight.

      My main problem with the corner chomper is it's weight. Even if the paper had been straight, I couldn't hold the corner chomper in place long enough to get any kind of good rounded corner. I've found a new corner rounder that I absolutely love. I have used it in several videos and it's inexpensive, which is the best part. It has three sizes of rounds, small, medium and large, and when you put your paper in, you can hear if it works when you push the lever. I like knowing when I need to repeat punching, and that's worked for me 100% of the time. I, too, was having difficulty with the strangely shaped Fiskars corner rounder with the comma shape to the punch - no wonder it was on clearance! Took it back to JoAnn! I like my Creative Memories one but it isn’t always exact. Then I went to Hobby Lobby by in search of another one and found the We R Memory Keepers corner rounder with 3 sizes of corners - 4, 7 snd 10 mm. I tried it in the store and all 3 were perfect cuts with no imperfections. When I got it home I tried it on some scrap cardstock and was hit and miss! Then when I turned over the punch I could see that when I slid the paper in, one of two mistakes happened. They have the underside visible when you slide in the paper - a key factor in getting a perfect punch! I was either not sliding it in perfectly (you can see the exact corner of your paper line up in the notch) and / or my paper was not cut exactly at 90°! Problem solved! Plus, this $10 punch cuts 3 sizes or corners perfectly and you can get it for $6 with their coupon!

    The problem is that the paper guide isn't quite exact, it's a tiny bit wider than the true 90° angle of the paper, and I think that might be the big problem - the paper doesn't automatically align correctly, I think that's why I sometimes get the harsh transition from corner to straight edge and sometimes not. There's too much wiggle room.

      I would buy the Creative Memories blue one that I show in my video. I cuts a bigger corner and was originally designed for photos. When you think about the size of photos, 4 x 6", it's probably the largest corner that people would consider rounding as cards are normally smaller. The other thing you could do (if you have good hand strength, is buy a Corner Chomper as it has two sizes and you would want the largest size you can get for a notebook. Here's the least expensive Creative Memories corner rounder I found on ebay.. www.ebay.com/itm/Creative-Memories-Corner-Rounder-Punch-Excellent-Condition-/142396584454?hash=item21277f7206:g:-YcAAOSwHMJYG~T4and here's what the corner chomper looks like. www.joann.com/crop-a-dile-corner-chomper-tool/2031821.html It has two sizes that it rounds, so maybe the larger side would work for your notebooks. I'd recommend you buy it at any big craft store and use a coupon. If the sizes aren't big enough for your corners, you could always return it. I found this to be too cumbersome for me. I really hope one of these will make you happy. Please let me know if you need more information, I'm always happy to help. Sandy

    Love your review, I have the same problems with paper cutters. They are off, don’t get a square. I agree the industries needs to do a better job of accuracy. I see so many crafters taking blame for products that just don’t work right. I know this is old but, 6 years later no improvements. Ugggh!

      I have to tell you after I made this video I found a Kadomaru Pro corner rounder and I LOVE it...It's the only tool I use that I gush about and hope you'll give it a try. The only place I know you can find it is on Amazon, and here's the link for it. I'm not affiliated with Amazon and make no money from any purchases made, but love this tool so much I'd hope you'd give it a try....Sandy www.amazon.com/Sunstar-Kadomaru-Corner-Cutter-S4765036/dp/B0076FJ7SS/ref=sr_1_1?crid=3O87DOMBLYNNZ&keywords=kadomaru+pro&qid=1667432989&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIwLjUzIiwicXNhIjoiMC4yNSIsInFzcCI6IjAuMjMifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=kadomaru+pro%2Caps%2C112&sr=8-1

      I bought a new corner rounder (a year ago) and it's my all time favorite now. Here's the link. tinyurl.com/y88jglfc It rounds small, medium and large corners which is nice when you have smaller or larger paper to round the corners on. I use it in almost every video, but this is a good one to see it in. czcams.com/video/Wmt5YwmIags/video.html I hope I'm not too late, as this corner rounder is a game changer for me. If you look at the top, not only can you see the S M and L, but they show the look of what you'll get when you choose each setting in terms of the rounding. It's under $10 and no shipping....I love it. (My opinions are always just mine with no money being exchanged so I'll say so.) Wanted to make sure you knew that. Sandy

    What is the cm measurements for corners using the Creative Memories punch?

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  Před 7 lety

      That's a great question. I went to their web site and they have revamped the punch I use but don't offer any info on the measurements of the cut it makes. If you tell me how to determine it, I'd be glad to measure it on mine. Sorry I'm not more help. Sandy

    • @LDFine
      @LDFine Před 7 lety +1

      Thank you - you would measure from the corner where the curve ends on the left over to where it ends on the right of the same corner. That's probably confusing.

  • @Hash4ever

    Whew! That seems quite the struggle and so unnecessary. Every one of those should work as promised. I have been really careful lately to get the exact angle when using my WRMK corner chomper. It is some better, but I still have to use my emery boards to sand every now and then. My easiest one is my tiny EK Success 1/2 inch with removable corner piece...allowing it to be used for scalloped edge. I turn it upside down to get angle exact.

      Unfortunately, hand strength makes some punches more difficult than others. I want to make sure others don't go through the same problems finding "the one" that works for them. It's why I started this channel. I hope people don't have to spend money on repetitive products like I have. I thank you for your ideas. Sandy

    • @craftingforalmosteveryone
      @craftingforalmosteveryone  Před 5 lety +1

      Betty, That's not a problem at all. Most stores will return products we can't use or don't like the way it works if you have your receipt....and if that doesn't work, contact the Fiskars customer service phone number, and Fiskars will do something for you...either exchange it for another tool, or give you other tool options....Hope that eases your mind, as I've had that happen before too....I had a Fiskars paper trimmer that had to be returned several times (and they didn't even have me return it, just sent me a new one...and scissors I couldn't get to work that they replaced, etc. Let me know how it goes, as I hate it when we buy things we can't use or are disappointed in.....Sandy

      Thank you for your reply!!! I did contact Fiskars via website and explained what has happened. I'm still waiting for their reply. I cannot take it back to the store b/c I threw the receipt and the packaging away!!!!! That's how confident I was that a Fiskars product would be great!!!!!

      Don't worry Betty, if you don't hear from Fiskars, send them another note, or call their customer service number and explain you didn't hear back from them. I had a problem with their "easy action" scissors and months later, hadn't received the new scissors, and called them...they'd sent them to another Sandy Parker....and sent me a new pair. I'm sure they'll help you....it's ok you don't have the receipt...Sandy

    all that plastic winding up in the environment you would think they would at least try to put a decent blade on any one of them so they actually worked--some things are better done by hand with scissors

    You cannot cut a round corner unless a piece of paper is perfectly 90 degrees. Seems like all those sheets were hand cut.

    Don't feel bad about the Fiskars with the twistable arrow -- IMHOP it is a piece of junk -- difficult to use, counter-intuitive design; sticks; impossible to unjam; and leaves uneven corners -- other than that the unit is perfect... ;)

      I own that orange Fiskars and I don't like it. I does well with card stock but won't cut anything else. I'm going with your recommendations and I'm going to get that "Becky" and the Creative Memories next shopping day. There was also EK Success corner punches that I thought looked good. You get two sizes in a pack on ebay. All of these are about the same price but we get hammered with shipping up here in Canada so I must look for the free shipping option.
