  • In this video I show how to vacuum to waste, and get dead algae out of my pool. Algae can ruin your summer pool season if you don’t get it under control. A lot of people don’t realize that dead algae can breed new algae. So it’s very important to get it removed from your pool. I run my pool on a budget and the way I’m showing you today is very inexpensive to do. Below I have the links to the products.

You forgot to mention to keep your eye on the water level as you are removing lots of water from your pool in 'waste' mode. Especially true for those pools with a fixed wall skimmer. The water level should be midway up the skimmer. People should remember toi add 2 inches of water before vacuuming to waste. I write this for all the new pool owners who have no idea about this stuff.

Do you find your pool sways? I have the Coleman version of this pool and it sways. Not dramatically but enough you can feel it and if you stare at it just right you can see the slight movement. It makes me soooo nervous and quite honestly is taking the fun out of owning it.

I just emptied my pool because chemicals seem so expensive, and with a DE earth filter, every backwash would require more. If i were to attempt to clear the alge, I would have to backwash every hour, so to me, fresh water is just more sanitary and makes sense. Got a sumppump that is great and filling pool now. MAINTENANCE of a pool is not as easy as most think so I now take pride in a crystal clear pool. Only those that have been thru the struggle understand. It's so funny when I run into people that maintain a pool lol

Hey you know what. The adaptor you screw o the outlet strainer grid and connected the skimmer hose on it. The light blue thing that’s connected with your skimmer, you can just remove the hose from the wall and you will have a plastic round part and on that part you can attach the vacuum hose. No need for pulling hose over the wall.

We had a huge alge problem, the best way we could fix it without wasting water was sewing several thick cotton sheets together to make a sort if hamper bag, we placed it inside a basket, sat the basket over a wooden board over the ladder inside the pool and we hung a $50 sump pump in different areas of the pool. We would mix the water the first week and then focus on certain areas. Once the water would over flow it was time to let it drain, rinse out the bag outside the pool throw it in the washer and repeat. Beware of large amounts of smelly sludge. Also PLEASE BE CAREFUL to not let the cable fall in the pool as to not electrocute yourself, tie it down somewhere or have a trusty helper

I just have one question - we have basically the same pump, I think ours is the intex 16 inch sand filter. I can’t tell where you connected the vacuum hose to get it connected to the pump? We have been dealing with a “dead” (but always ready to bloom at the first opportunity) algae issue all summer that we cannot get rid of! There’s no bag that will filter that crud out. I have question. We removed dead algae settling to bottom but again it keeping coming back every week. We have double shock then clears out.
We have Intex 2500GPH filter motor. It won't pull out all dead algae or debris even after running for 8 hours. We have couple trees near by so leaves fall in the pool.
Whenever you shock and add algae killer does to always settles yo bottom or it will get pulled out by Motor.
Even if motor pulls micro algae debris comes in to pool by inlet.
We tried to vaccum settled algae but we have to spend 1-2 hour / week. We do how much we can. Now it's just headache.
I didn't see same problem with my friend who has hard steel covered pool, they also have trees near by. There motor is powerful. We can't use same motor as pulse the walls if it's stronger. Any solution

We have been doing this method (before I saw this video) for an entire season last year and this year and it still doesn't work. After it settles from being cloudy, it looks the same all over again. Just ridiculous. We vacuum slow and to waste (losing more water) Adding water, running up the bill. We've used drop out, other flocculants and still looks like Algae in the pool at the bottom. Brushed it, vacuumed, shocked, you name it. Wake up and the crap is at the bottom again. Even disinfected all the tools in case any had algae on it too.

I would advise you to investigate why you have algae in the first place so you will be able to prevent them. I have never had them in my pool. I only waste water with a backwash or when there is an awful lot of desert sand in the pool. Check your free chlorine, PH and make sure you filter at least 1 to 2 turnovers in 24 hrs. Good luck.
