      @@michael50694 he is right. This is good for those only traveling one route. For example, if I buy a normal weekly card, which is the same price as weekly travel on the septa key, I however cannot travel on trolleys, and underground, only regional on the weekly pass. Septa key is only good for 56 rides on the regional rail with a weekly pass. As far I understand you cant use it for other means of travel unless you buy a specific plan on the septa key or buy a one time ride on it.

      They could just take credit cards or other things people use like cash. They soend $300 million just to get the system set up. Every time they decide to change the computer system layout they pay the company that set it up a few more million. Sounds like a nice deal they have.

    How often does the subway run? And is there a monthly pass option, if so is it unlimited rides or the 240 ride limit I read on Google?

    • @hornshowrailfan2554
      @hornshowrailfan2554 Před 2 lety

      Passes are ONLY if you ride a lot. A monthly pass for Philadelphia transit is $96.00. This is NOT valid on Regional Rail. An anywhere pass allows you to go anywhere on the system for a month at $204.00. A quick trip is $2.50 and is good for one ride only downtown.

    Problem 1: How can you create a card system and not include option to auto reload from my bank acct? Now I still need to manually shove money into a machine. And how am I supposed to remember balance except logon to septkey acct....not good
    Problem 2: Can't use with someone traveling with me? So if I have visitors from out of town I can't use my card for them. I must stop and buy another card for what maybe just one ride?!

    • @michael50694
      @michael50694 Před 6 lety

      Are you paying for the card?

    • @phillysphinest3946
      @phillysphinest3946 Před 5 lety

      Solution 1: Instead of complaining about having to go put money in a machine every now and then . You could just pay cash and not use the card . Figure it out .
      Solution 2 : Never has there been a shareable transpass . So what you do is either reach in your pocket and get $2:50 , or get a day pass.
      ( just for the record , I dislike the new card system very much . However , nobody ever said we have to use 1 if we don't want 1. We could just go ahead and find another way) .... or just bitch about minor inconvenience , if that's what you call it

    I don’t understand what was wrong with paper transfers, especially useful for occasional riders. Since SEPTA still (thank God!) takes cash, what is the big deal with printing and giving out paper transfers for another dollar at the fare box? This technology might seem daunting, especially for older riders. The only downside I can see to paper transfers is the cost to SEPTA to pint them. Is that the reason?

    • @hornshowrailfan2554
      @hornshowrailfan2554 Před 2 lety

      They are trying to be like every other transit system. If you are someone like me who rides 5-7 days a week sometimes all 7 this is great.

    • @harrygallagher4125
      @harrygallagher4125 Před 2 lety +1

      @@hornshowrailfan2554 I wasn’t suggesting that SEPTA do away with whatever newfangled digital card you use, merely asking what was wrong with retaining paper transfers for cash riders? The rider puts in $2.50 and then the extra charge for the transfer and the driver or cashier takes a whole three seconds or so to rip off the transfer and hand it to the rider. What was wrong with that? I just had jury duty and I don’t drive into center city. I had to pay $2.50 for the bus and then again for the El back and forth. I wasn’t going to learn how to buy and use cards for what I hoped would be a one day round trip. (Thankfully, it was!) If the issue is the cost of printing paper transfers, then charge an extra quarter or so for them over the dollar that they used to cost. .
