We knew that was always going to happen in the end, but nobody really knew anything about the Guardians. So when this group of outcasts take their journey and learn to give a shit about something other than themselves, them all willing to lay down their lives together for something greater is heroic and a major change for all them. The Avengers may work together better as a team, but The Guardians are a family. Underneath all the humor and action, this scene is the reason everyone loves them. Because it's powerful. The music, the scenery, the story. Nothing even needs to be said. All they're doing is standing. Standing tall, standing together. The Guardians Of The Galaxy.

To me, it was like when a family member dies but you never took the last meeting seriously and regret it deeply, but then get a glimpse of said-family member. Almost like getting a proper final goodbye
I haven't researched this, but I think Groot was the first to "hold hands" with Peter. He's experiencing extreme pain and sheer terror after first grasping the stone, then it cuts away to an exterior view with onlookers, then it shows him calming down as his feet and the ground around them glow purple. Everyone else glows purple after touching him, so to me it looks like the remains of Groot are helping him to deal with the strain and focus on his surroundings.
Ohmygad this is like my favorite scene ever. I've watched GotG (both Vol. 1 and 2) hundreds and hundreds of times at this point but I've never thought of this. I very, very deeply love the Guardians and this comment gave me some sense of peace somehow.. it hasn't been confirmed or anything but my whole being wants to believe that Groot was still there that moment.. wow. Starlord gets a lot of hate for Infinity War but nah he's a hero more so than many of the others who have powers and such. His backstory is gut wrenching and even his arc throughout the series has been tragic as hell. He got his family though and it remains one of the most heart warming moments in comic book films.
I recommend this Black Tears the Best Original Theme Soundtracks for the Guardians of the Galaxy in the years to come if they make another sequel. This one is Marvelous.

A group of criminals who met in prison, didn't like each other, tried to kill each other, only cooperated for the Big Score, but lost it to a terrorist, came together for a nobler purpose to stop that terrorist from destroying a planet of billions of people that had put them in prison, suffered through pain and death to stop him, and by the end saw their leader who had kept them from killing each other and gave them that nobler purpose throw himself on a source of cosmic energy for the slightest chance of saving the world, and realized that they loved him, wouldn't let him die, and were willing to burn to death to save him, only to realize that their love for each other was enough to briefly control a force of the Universe and use it to annihilate the terrorist to a storm of music and visuals that almost made my heart burst with feeling
The two Guardians movies and Doctor Strange, have been the apex of the MCU offerings. The Guardians movies have not failed to make me get all choked up. Doctor strange was just an awesome visual and mental trip.

If only he had kept his powers separated from his dad, cuz somehow the infinity stone he touched enhanced them and it survived Egos destruction. Like it did to Wanda even though the Elder God Chthon died long ago. I mean could you imagine both him and Wanda, who are very emotional characters, going nuclear on Thanos ass for killing Vision and Gamora.
Despite how awesome and fitting the licensed soundtrack was to this movie, Tyler Bates was able to give us some truly memorable music that was able to keep up.
