- Welcome to another trip report!
On September 29, I flew First Air from Inuvik, Northwest Territories to Yellowknife, Northwest Territories on an ATR 42-500. First Air (legally named Bradley Air Services Limited) is an airline headquartered in Kanata, a suburb of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. It operates services to 34 communities in Nunavut, Nunavik, and the Northwest Territories. Their fleet consists of 13 ATR 42s & 4 737-400s. On November 1st, 2019, the airline merged with Canadian North, and they agreed to operate as one airline named Canadian North while keeping First Air's branding.

Thank you for this trip report! we're glad you enjoyed your trip prior to our merger, we hope to see you again soon now that we have merged! Safe travels!
Quintin, good job! The ATR's are much quieter (albeit a tad slower) than the Dash 8s, but a pleasure on which to fly. First Air puts most US carriers to shame. None of them would ever offer a meal of this size and quality, especially on a turboprop.
The ATR-42 has always been one of my favorite aircraft. My father flew the ATR for American Eagle from 1986-1997 before transitioning to the E-145. Command Airways, The franchise he flew for was the North American launch customer for the ATR. Their first aircraft (N140DD) was a test aircraft for Aerospatiale before delivery in 1985. My father ferried N141DD to the states from Toulouse in May 1986.
Amazing you actually get a meal on a turboprop! Now that’s something rare!
I agree! If only American carriers learned a thing or two from these airlines
used to be light snack only up till last june.
QFS Aviation Agreed! The first major US airline to serve complimentary meals on domestic flights(in economy) will OWN the domestic market!
TreseMari IK they used to do them
I have the high ground
I am the Maintenance guy, happy to gave your a safe trip like Canadian North always do!
Honestly, that would be a nice snack to have on the plane. Nothing heavy. Just light and fresh.
I agree. Nice and simple, but enough to tide you over
As usual, outstanding video. So surprising that the airline would serve a meal on a relatively short turboprop flight. A pretty rare treat. Thanks for your trip reports on these lesser-known airlines!
Great views on take off...love the ATR aircraft. Food looked great...and lots of it !! Ashtrays...the good old days of flying !! You then know the aircraft has been around for a while when the seats still have the ashtray !! Funny stuff in this day and age !! Yellowknife is quite an aviation hub by the look of things !! Loved the flight and the views...well done as always !!
Thanks a lot! Haha that is true. This aircraft is quite old 🤘
Next time you are in YZF please don't hesitate to come say hi to me at the Air Canada counter my name is Mathieu dude it would be awesome to meet you :). Love your trip reports and keep up the great work. Great quality content and amazing and appropriate reviews. These help a lot of people to see and understand what to expect and what and how different airlines, and places are. Truly amazing love your content keep it up. :)
I'm really excited for the summer videos
Another good review. Hope the service on First Air stays the same after the merger. This was like going back in time but in a good way. A nice flight, few passengers and an actual snack that looked edible. Thanks for highlighting these small airlines. Take care and Happy Travels! ♥️🛫🌐
10:57 the skyline of Yellowknife makes it almost like a decent sized city
It does, nice illusion
thanks for the ride Q👍✈
Food glorious food! This is amazing! - Red
we should make qfs aviation fly to omaha
Another great trip report man, really interesting, I want to fly on an ATR now! I also want to check out a 732, last flew on one when I was a kid in 96 with Canadian YYZ-YOW so it’s been awhile lol.
Wow just got the notification😂 great trip report! was watching them on my flight to Boston!
A few years ago, I flew on an ATR round trip from Dallas-Fort Worth to Little Rock, AR with American Eagle. I loved it!! Very smooth and comfortable flight. One thing I miss is being served a meal while flying domestically. I once flew from DFW to Detroit on a DC9 and got a full meal. This was back in the 80s.
I love these reviews
Very nice trip report!!
Excellent Flight Report QFS Aviation.....Goodluck for you
hi qman. looks like you flew over a bunch of lakes, I wonder how the fishing is in that part of that world. great report as always. Thanks for sharing. Fly safe my friend
Fishing is ridicules (in a good way), more lakes than you can fish in a lifetime there.
Awesome video man!
I Hope that First Air will get New Planes in the upcoming years ATR 42-600 & ATR 72-600 Series even New Boeing 737-700 & 800NG's in the next phase but will wait & see first.
I love the atr’ s and it is my favorite aircraft, nice video
Hi thanks for sharing this vid. Now in my country we have ATR 42-600 & ATR 72-600 I ❤ATR
I Love this Trip Report Video on First Air is Awesome!!!!
The hangar and home of Buffalo in Yellowknife was the former base of Wardair Canada
That's cool! I did not know that
That was a great video.
Looks great
Nice video..cheers
waw... what a smooth landing
Nice video! I was wondering if they'd give you some food untill I saw the tray table haha
That’s the first time I’ve seen Pepsi on flight
This type of aircraft flashed in the film Pushing Tin (1999)
Thanks QFS !!!
Great
Nice video! Do you have one going to Tulita?
This is so weird to see FTIZ in YEV and also in a full seater config, rows 1 to 4 (C and D) are now gone and replaced with a cargo box, FTIZ also flyes the Kitikmeot Region and Sahtu Region alot now.
We have ATRs here in Ireland
Ice pilots is my favorite aviation show great trip report hope we meet up some day I’m really trying to get into making trip reports
I looove ATRs
Nice video Q. It seems to me that all those places can`t be reached by any other means but airplanes. Am I right?
I am surprised you dd not take the opportunity to fly "Air North" into Whitehorse on your way out of Inuvik. Unlike most communities we have two different routes that fly into town. But I see now you never had an chance to really explore YK on your way up. Hope you had fun in the north.
Where did you stay at up there?
👍👍👍
Eu assisto aos episódios do reality show ice pilots...Muito bom!
I thought this flight was very cool 👍
The ATR accidents were caused by ice in cold weather areas. I like ATRs'. Flew them all over Tahiti.
Oh to live somewhere like that.
can see the dempster in the distance.
How long is this flight?
Besides, ya gotta go some time!
Can you do a tripreport on Surf Air?
Wow Tnx bro good business ok thanks good
I have flown more on ATR… and made videos on it but would like to fly-600
ATR😎😎😎
Dis you get a chance to drop by Buffalo? Maybe do a bit of spotting on the old warbirds?
how does it compare to the Q300/400..noise level
How do you fly to all of these places???
can you please do a trip report on bahamas air atr once the borders open up?
🔝🔝🔝🔝🔝
Ayyy my birthdays was on the 29th of September!
I’m 11 if your wondering
Great trip report! I dont like the new first air livery. Definetly like the older one more!
this Q re-view is made possible by Pepsi (not Coke) with ice. first time on an ATR and it turns out to be a very good flight as Q capture some great scenery. I enjoyed it and I bet you will too so hit the like and sub buttons. Well done Quebec Foxtrot Sierra and thanks for sharing!!
1:06 "wuahahahaha"
I have said it before and I will say it again, PROPS ARE SEXY!, Thanks Q!
That ATR looks so sexy.
The only time I'd wan to fly an ATR is in the Philippines
13:21 see ya
they offer meals now. makes sense since this flight is bound for edmonton. less than 2 hours to yellowknife, does that mean it doesn't stop at normal wells as the "old canadian north" used to do?
btw...have you rode on a 146..
He has done a trip report on it
the kansas city chiefs won the superbowl yesterday lots of fireworks going off after the game in Omaha and people were all rooting for the kansas city chiefs yesterday in omaha
regarding your comment about ATR accidents.. I believe they were mostly or all due to icing problems. That's why they are mainly flown in the south and tropics for US airlines
Didn't airlines stop operating ATR aircraft in cold climate regions because of their bad icing issue?
Nope it's actually a very proven airplane for the area and is planned to be there for a while
BRO MAKE AN VID IN MESA AIRLINES ECONOMY!!!!!!!!! I NEED TO KNOW BEFORE MY TRIP TO PHX!!!!!! >:(
Two slices of cucumber, a cherry tomato, a few slices of cold cuts and a small piece of cake and you consider this a lot of food LOL
Lol.....no smoking allowed
Great meal from small aviation corporation!!!!
ATR is kinda of small aircrafts. Try to reserve A-380 from Toronto to Yellowknife, huh?
It doesn’t fit Yellowknife Airport, unless it’s emergency. Visit to A-380 if it’s emergency landing.
Listen to radio!!! Good Luck with Canadian North 737 before it’ll be gone.
This is salami; not ham. Their fares are steep. Maybe that is why you get such a lovely snack.
Ewww
