The dragon rider at the end was Laenor Velaryon. His Dragon is named Sea smoke. Although he's a Velaryon, his mother is a Targaryen, which is why he can ride dragons.

Cant wait to see Laena ride her dragon. The mighty "Vhagar"! Side note: the 3 eggs that eventually belong to Daenerys Stormborn Targaryen were from Vhagar.
If they keep using Caraxes, they would see him because the colour is red. So they used Seasmoke as a camouflage.

Caraxes wasn't used because everytime the Crab Feeder and his men saw the dragon, they'd run into the caves. Daemon rowed across the water to take them on to lure them out.
Seasmoke is 2x bigger than what i expecting.

That and... who wants a rider-less dragon spraying fire everywhere & anywhere during battle?! 🙈🥴 lmao They need riders guiding them for crying out loud. I don't know why people expected the dragon to do anything w/out guidance. That would be way too reckless.
Best exchange and transition was from the Valeryon's talking battle strategy. The son Laenor actually coming up with a plan then defending Daemon saying he's been in the battle the whole time while calling out his uncle as the Master of Complaints and then Daemon's reaction to the letter with the voice over as he rows himself to the Crab Feeders choke hold. The end of this episode was just dope. Ending with a bloodied face Daemon similar to Rhaenyra 's return to camp all bloodied up.
The battle itself was alright. The Kings Hunt stuff was amazing though. Paddy Constantine is the MVP of this show.

Well, Laena was a really "young looking" 12yr old. So if he's even just a couple years older than her, that puts him in the 17-18 range.
@@auntienancy7787 Corlys’ son Laenor is just a couple of years older than Rhaenyra, who is 17 yrs old in this episode. Laenor is about 19-20, while his sister Laena is 15 (by this episode). I’m guessing we’re getting another time jump in episode 4, so I’m excited to see Laena and if we’ll see her riding Vhager (the dragon she was speaking about to Viserys in episode 2).

Daemon declined the reinforcements because he doesnt want the king to take credit for his victory. Daemon and the Valeryons have been fighting the Crabfeeders for 3 years and the king have been ignoring them.
Man's ego was so high that he'd rather die in the battlefield than accepting his bro's reinforcement. 🤣

I think it was more so it felt like a slap to the face that after 3 years of heavy fighting and doing all the heavy lifting now his brother wants to come and take credit. Also the fact that it was someone else running to the King for help behind his back

It took him being talked into it by Alicent to finally send help and he has the guts to say "secure a victory for us". Us US?? The fuck was he when his brother and Corlys fought for 3 years straight without help.

The acting in this episode was amazing and Daemon went into straight beast mode towards the end.

The simple fact Matt Smith didn't have to say a single word the last ten minutes says it all.
It was Laenor Velaryon, Son of Corlys Valeryon and Rhaenys Targaruen riding his dragon Seasmoke.
Daemon going for a suicide mission and living is supposed to be one in a million. It's a legendary feat, that only a legendary warrior (with a lot of luck of course. Everyone get's lucky sometimes) could accomplish. And it gives him exactly what he wants: Recognition. He went out and was the key catalyst in ending a 3 year long guerrilla war.
daemon bested the best of the best and was knighted at the age of 16. he was the youngest ever and because of that the previous king gave him one of their ancestral valerian sword. his only known lost is with sir cole in the recent tournament.
I thought it was a bit dumb. It was too unrealistic. If those men had attacked him all at once instead of one by one he would be dead

I'd just like to know how the Crab Feeder and his men held their own for that long against someone who had a damn dragon, especially when they hid in caves where Daemon should've been able to have Caraxes blow some fire up in there and roast them all alive. Must be some deep caves
@@richardjohnson9543 It's a callback to how Dorne resisted being conquered. Using caves to evade the dragons instead of going out in the open to get roasted. They only came out sparsely for hit and run tactics

They can all ride dragons, yes. Laena doesn't have a dragon at this point, but she's also half Targaryen so she can ride a dragon too.
The dragon is called Seasmoke because of its colour of silver-grey. It can camouflage itself in sea smoke, clouds and anything the like. Probably why it took a while for the Crab-Feeder or anyone to spot it during the battle since the island was covered in sea smoke.

I think that Alicent didn't really mean to throw shade, it was like she was trying to comfort both Rhaenyra and Viserys that, by her own experience with Aegon II, giving birth isn't very difficult while everyone's like, 'Sis, the last queen died due to a difficult delivery'. The Alicent in this timeline still loves Rhaenyra despite her position Otto pushed her into.

son 'Laenor Velaryon' his dragon is named 'Seasmoke'. His mother 'Rhynes Targaryen' was the 'Old King' Jaehaerys I grand daughter so half of his blood hails from the targaryens.
Viserys didn’t send any help, and then chooses to near the end which would give him all the credit. Oooo daemon was pisssed that he went to the last resort, a suicide run. 👏🏼 he’s a legend. He got it done and didn’t run his mouth at all.
I would be pissed to get the kings letter too if I was Daemon. First you ignored the problem in the Step Stones letting it get that bad. Then you wouldn’t do anything about it cause you scared. Corlys had to go to Daemon for help. They been fighting for THREE YEARS and you only sent aid because you were talked in to it saying even though we were estranged I don’t want you to die and let’s secure a win for ‘US’. Us??? The crown wasn’t in a battle. Daemon and Corlys were and the Crown continued to ignore the problem. Kick rocks Viserys.
Also folks blaming Daemon for this war but Corlys brought the Step Stones problem to Daemon because Viserys wouldn’t help. Let it get worse and worse. The moment a Velaryon ship was attacked he should have offered him aid but he didn’t. So how is this Daemon’s fault again? Those old biddies blaming Daemon but they should have e been blaming the king for doing nothing.

That wasn't a Targaryen on the Dragon at the end. That was Corlys Valeryon's son, Laenor. He's the one that was suggested to the king to marry Rhaenyra by Lyonel Strong. The best decision at the moment for her imo. We'll see if she's down for that.
I like Laenor, because he put his uncle in his place when he was whining and came up with the final strategy that won them the battle. He's also a dragon rider (clearly) like Rhaenyra through his mother Rhaenys. He's a cousin, but it's better than marring your little brother 😆

this is the difference between daemon and other kings who only became king just because of birthright. but daemon needs to prove himself constantly to his people that he is worthy to be a king.
It was part of the plan. After being angered by the king, Daemon agreed to be the bait. Notice that Crabfeeder didn't send all his men out at once. He sent them in waves, constantly looking at the sky. He got cocky at the end and then the rest of the plan came into play- Corlyss' army attacked and Seasmoke burnt them. Seasmoke is the dragon of Laenor Valyrian, Corlyss son-- the guy standing up for Daemon when his uncle was trying to blame Daemon. Laenor is half Targaryrn thru his mother, Rhaenys. He can ride dragons and Seasmoke is his.

The one who was flying the dragon was Clorys older son who is TECHNICALLY a Targaryean because the queen who never was is his mother.
King Viserys is a good king. It's just easy to look at him as weak because ruling is very complicated. Daemon is a warrior and has a strong personality yes, but it doesn't mean that he'd have been an effective king, because ruling isn't all about strength. Just look at Daenerys' conquest across the Narrow Sea where she was bodying cities after cities freeing up slaves, but in the end slavery returned almost overnight and she couldn't control the last city that she conquered. And she had 3 fully grown dragons and 8k unsullied with her.
As we've seen before, being a basically good and decent person works against you in that brutal world. Viserys is a good man but a bad king because you need to be a ruthless and calculating asshole who does whatever needs to be done without hesitation to get results. Daemon would have to dial back the violent temper just a bit but otherwise he'd definitely be more effective than his brother
No this is wrong. You can be decent and strong. It's about balance. The ruthless calculating assholes in the real world usually end up killing millions of their own people to stay in power.
Can we please talk about the King having people hold his trophy for the kill while Rhaenyra killed hers and brought it back to camp, blood all over herself?!

To me it looked like he didn't even want to kill it because it was being held down, much like how his wife was held down before she died. The hesitation in his face said it all. He just wants to make the right decisions but unfortunately is easily manipulated and whichever way he looks, it seems as if he can't appease everyone (as he had told Alicent)

Daemon them was fighting for 3 years because whenever they would bring the dragons the enemies would just go inside the caves. Daemon would’ve rather died than to get his brother help him. The rider was Rhyneas and Corlys' son Laenor. Both Laenor and Lena are dragon riders like their Targaryen mother, who rides Meleys the red dragon. This means Corlys aka Black Witcher has dragons too. Don't sleep on Lena or her mom if the show stays true to the books.

The whole reason that Damon went to the steps sans was to prove that he was a warrior and a fighter, add or above his brother who is the king because the king sent aid. Damon took that as a sign from his brother that his brother had no faith in Damon that he could handle it on his own. That’s why he took the aggression out on the messenger. He was hurt because he felt like his brother didn’t have confidence in him as a man as a warrior and that’s why he lost it.
