  • Calibrating your ATV, UTV, or backpack sprayer shouldn't be a hard thing to do unless you listen to some of the agricultural advice out there. Why? Because for food plotters, backyard enthusiasts and landowners in general, do not use sophisticated ag equipment to herbicide or spray their landscape. Here is how to calibrate your herbicide and habitat sprayer...

    I have a 25 gallon sprayer for my ATV with a boom and two nozzles. I use your method of applying the recommended ounces per acre and crop oil if called for. Until you figure out what rate your tank empties and at what speed, I start with the full 25 gallons per acre. In my opinion, it is better to make a few extra passes over the same ground than to run out of product half way through and realize you just dumped enough chemical on half an acre that should be applied to the entire acre.

    When tank mixing 2,4-D and glyphosate, what is your order of adding ingredients? 1/2 tank of water, 2,4-D, mix with pump, then add gly and top off with water?

    • @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751
      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  Před rokem

      Hi Tony...yes. then you can add the appropriate amount of chemical to your tank...knowing what your coverage rate is with your sprayer. You should always spray based on a unit of measurement of chemical PER ACRE, not ounces per gallon, etc.

    if I've never sprayed before with an atv sprayer, how do I figure out how much water i'll use. do i just do a test run with water only? see how much i use then do it for real? thats the only way i can figure out how much water my atv sprayer will use

      @@mikemellon80 I figured out a comfortable speed to drive(drive in the field to get a feel), went to asphalt road, put a gallon of water in, sprayed until I ran out of water, multiplied width by length in square feet . I got about 420 square feet, there are 43560 sq feet /acre so one gallon did about a tenth of an acre which means 10 gallons per acre. remember to watch your speed, easier to drive faster on asphalt, easy to see water on pavement. Hope this helps, it worked for me

  • @dkdogs

    How is it not diluting the chemicals by adding more water? 15 gallons at 2qts per acre in theory would be stronger than 30 gallons with the same 2qts??

    • @jamesfarrow2130
      @jamesfarrow2130 Před rokem +3

      hey Iowa, 2 qts per acre chemical equals 2 qts per acre chemical. The water only carries the chemical, the weeds only know they got hit by 2 qts per gallon. Unless you use so much water it carries the chemical off the plant, hope this helps

    • @dkdogs
      @dkdogs Před rokem +1

      @@jamesfarrow2130 that’s what I thought as well. I recently talked to a chemical person who stated it dilutes the solution and suggested the oz per gallon option. Thanks for clearing that up.

      @whitetailhabitatsolutions9751  Před rokem +2

      Definitely...same amount of chemical applied per acre...doesn't matter if you use 30 gallons of water to deliver 2 quarts or 5 gallons to deliver 2 quarts of chemical....still 2 quarts per acre.
