The passion on display is what it’s all about. Back in the day I loved wearing DC, Vans, Converse, Osiris, Etnies! Loved my Etnies. Easy to get pumped about seeing those old models come back.

Hey Guys! If we've learned anything in the past 24 hours, it's that the past is in. So with that being said let's check out these beefcakes. Let us know down below if you have any early 2000s trends you're hoping make a comeback down below. Thanks for watching!

These are the chunkiest shoes of all time. They’re such bricks, that they’re in a brick league of their own. No not the bricks you think I mean Mr. resell. Straight 90’s padding. Kick flips in these are difficult and they’re made for a technical skater haha, love it

    • @NastyRhythm
      @NastyRhythm Před rokem +1

Yep they are bricks, but the OGs are slightly less chunky than the 2001 d3s....those things just looked crazy big on the feet, and tbh looked ridiculous.
Always loved the OGs and so happy they re issued them. They're still chunky, and probably not the best for board feel, but for me its purely nostalgia. I just got the white and red ones as that's all I could find. Cent wait to get them on!

Man i remember being in middle school and about 40% of the school had a pair of these. I was soo close to getting a pair but i went with the muska Circas because of the stash pocket in the tongue. Skate shoes are some of the most comfortable things to have on your feet.

Man, I remember I went through my skateboard shoe phase in like 97-98. Emerica/Etnies & DC’s were my jams. Was rocking Hook-Up’s gear and Alien workshop as well as a board. 😂 I can always count on relating to Chris. I think we would have been best friends had we grown up around each other. It’s like we were experiencing a similar life and experiences growing up. It’s crazy can’t forget the JNCO’s 😂

This is why I love this channel, I really get to reminisce the glory years of my childhood/pre-teens, with all those pop culture references.... Hoobastank, man kids this days would never know unless they dig it haha... 'I'm not a perfect person...'
By the way, Osiris D3 was the unicorn of the skate scene during those times from where I live.... seeing it now, was like just wow... it does not feel like just only 20 yrs ago... :D

Great review man! With dunks being burned out, and seeing LV and other high end fashion houses try to mimic skate silhouettes, I've decided to return to my roots copped a few skate shoes. Right now my daily drivers are the ES Silo and they turn heads everywhere I go. They sort of look like a Koston 1.

Thanks bro for taking me back. You where spot on with the backpack with the speakers and the bands. I was a big NFG fan. I feel like the Bay Area and San Diego are very similar! Before the internet waiting for your CCS catalog to see what’s new in gear. Buying the skate magazines to see who’s wearing what. Let’s not forget about the brand “shorties “. What a great way to start my day. I’m gonna go throwback 2000s music all day today.

I remember when kids started rocking these and the Hi-top versions of these and DC. My late brother had like six pairs of these, he and my other brother and cousins were super badass on skateboards. They were so mad at the kids that wore them and didn't skate because they made them super hard to find. I suck at skateboarding, lol I can't even roll down the street. My oldest brother was just getting big into longboarding and just got back home from a longboarding trip around the country. He was skateboarding to the gas station one night with his best friend when they were both struck and killed by a drunk driver. Seeing this video makes me think of him! He would have loved seeing these!

Skate shoes were THE shoe in the late 90s. They were perfect for the style of the time because the were padded shoes which made them quite bulky. But not in a bad way. They were generally lows, which were really low. Not a lot of mid sole. But here’s why they were perfect for that specific time: we all wore super baggie pants back then. So if you worn normal shoes they would just get hidden under your baggie pants. But if you had the Luffy skate shoe it would catch the bottom of the pant exposing the shoe in all its glory. Baggie pants/puffy shoe. It was a great combo. Today we have the east if at the bottom of the pant leg so we don’t need to hold it up with the bulk of the shoe. This is a great style for sneaker heads because you can wear any style shoe and it won’t get lost under pants. Back when skinny jeans were cool you pretty much had to wear skinny shoes or else the shoe and the pants would clash. But today with the semi baggie pants with sinched cuff you can wear skinny shoes, puffy shoes, skate shoes, chuck ts. What ever you like. It works. I love how style has evolved to maximize sneaker culture. I mess with it.

I have to agree though, I owned several pairs back in the late 90s/early 2000s and while these are great, they miss the mark on what I was hoping for. Skate shoes of that time were pretty cool with a baggy. Since baggy has evolved/disapeared, they ain't lookin' good anymore and it' s not an accident that current Skate shoes have thiner profile like the Dunks or the Vans. In the same category, I used to wear and play bbal with a pair of DVS and a pair of Globe. No one can't deny that the design Skate shoes of that time was deeply inspired by basketball shoes (visible air unit, extra large tongue, padding, colours, round laces, etc, etc)

Great shoe, I remember I was like 13-14 years old rocking the purple/orange colorway. I was mainly wearing another DC pair and saving these for more unique appearances like weekends, parties, etc. Unfortunately after 6 months, my feet grew 0.5-1 size and I could not wear them anymore. Being a real Millennial born in 1987, and grew up in the late 90’s and early to mid 2000’s, now 34, I can relate. I wasn’t a skater. The majority of us weren’t, but that along side platform shoes/sneakers like the famous brand Buffalo, still own a pair just for memory sake, was the shit back then. 90% of the kids in my home town owned a pair of these brands and types of shoes. I didn’t own any DC, Osiris or Etnies etc, but I had the Buffalo version. Best shoes ever. Wore them regardless of weather and season. Then after 2003, at least here in Norway, Puma, Nike, Adidas, and Converse took over. I loved how cushioned the skating shoes where, the thick oversized tongue, fat laces, and wide foot/toes friendly. I had a scull ès version, which I gave to my boyfriend, and he used them all up until recently when they basically fell apart being over 14 years old. So old I couldn’t even see the sizing to buy another as ès still makes a version of their skating shoe… tho not the same quality as it was way back when, when being made in Spain was more common than “China” or “Vietnam”. Also back then, there where no raffles, no limited pairs. You just walked into any store that had them, tried then on and bought them. Miss it!

I tried a pair of the retros on recently and was sorely disappointed by the quality of materials; little details like that missing stitching, the center loop, eyelets, hell even the smell was off. Of all my nitpicks, the most egregious thing was the cheap flat laces. They had all the ingredients to bring back one of the most iconic skate shoes and they dropped the ball hard. I just recently ordered the eS Creager re-issue stoked to relive that era.

The white and red D3's are so sick. They've been an object of my lust since when they were new. I keep hoping they drop again someday

@@WearTesters man I hope so, but I started going through pics and its actually the white and red with the silver accent on side. The piping and interior is red on those as well. Ugh I doubt I'll ever see that colorway again sadly even though I think it's the GOAT. The regular white/ red is still pretty fresh though and I will definitely be trying to cop when they come out!

Brooo these are definitely top of the short list for best shoes ever. As far as skate shoes, for me, the first Koston with Es is on that list too. Dope they brought these back BUT where is the grey/black colorway??? Best colorway for this shoe IMO. My friends and I all got that same colorway. I went to like 4 different skate shops all around the city trying to get my size when they first dropped. CLASSIC
