  • I hate these kinds of posts but this one is an exception in my case. Rest In Peace my guitar hero Eddie Van Halen... A man who simply changed my life and innovated his way into rock history and will be so sorely missed. My heartfelt condolences to Alex, Wolfgang and the family.
The reason I picked up the guitar in the first place was seeing my Dad play 'Panama' on one of the guitars seen in this photo when I was 4 years old. Ed was the soundtrack in my youth and despite the music that was circulating through school at the time I remained a die hard Van Halen fan and always will. All of my influences were inspired by him from Vai, Satriani, Satchel, Paul Gilbert, Gus G, Zakk Wylde and so many more. He still continues to inspire me today. I couldn't have achieved what I have so far without him, simple. Devastated. 😔😣😱

Wonderfully done, Cam. It just illustrates how many techniques he added to the guitar lexicon. He wasn't guitar, guitar was him.

The year was 1987 ..I just started high school.. didn't take much notice in music/instruments etc.. Then the school gets a new music teacher..he looked pretty cool.. not like you would imagine a music teacher..anyway his main instrument was piano/keyboards...during the one of his lessons he lets slip that he plays in a cover band at weekends..a few of my friends are excited by this ..some of my friends had got electric guitars..acoustic guitars ..keyboards the previous Xmas ..but they where struggling to afford lessons etc..No CZcamsrs like Cameron cooper in those days! Anyway as the weeks went by the music lessons in school turned into question and answer sessions about the music teachers band ..eventually he talks about the guy who started his band ..(can't remember his name to this day ) I myself still wasnt really interested in music..but could see the passion in my friend Peters eyes (who had recently bought an electric guitar and amp package) he also had started to grow his hair long ..lol ..Anyway the music teacher organises an after school club for anyone wanting to learn instruments and invites his band member to help out !! so I gets dragged along by Peter to the first after school session ..about 10 people turned up ..The guy in the band has a Drum kit rigged up from the school equipment (which wasn't very good ) he has a Yamaha DX7 with a Roland sound module of his own rigged up ..and a black flight case unopened behind him.. So this guy starts on the Drums ..Wow he blows me away ..don't know what song he was playing if any ..but he sounds awesome talks about the drumkit ..etc.. then he moves onto the keyboard and plays Jump by van halen ..all of it ..the lesson ends ..I'm starting to think ..I quite like this music stuff ..when I gets home I asked my mum for a drumkit ? she just looks at me and carries on making tea ...I said what about a keyboard ..she says maybe for Xmas if you can put headphones in it 😆 ..So the next after school club ..we are down to 5 members ..teacher says the club will wind up if we only getting 5 members !! We all gather in close to this guy ..I mean I'm 2ft away from him ..he takes this cream coloured Kramer guitar out of the flight case ..the guys are like wow that guitar is awesome ..he plugs it in to this Marshall amp and cranks it up ..and guess what he plays !! ERUPTION(which I'd never heard of) the whole thing ..to see and hear that piece of music right before your eyes live never leaves you ..he finishes it off ..me and the other 4 guys are just in total shock ..how did he make all those sounds ..why was he tapping the fretboard like a piano..needless to say ..the next week when the word got around there was over 20 members at the after school club ..I started listening to Van Halen..My dad got me a white Stratocaster copy ..I learned to play to a reasonable standard..(still can't play Eruption though 😭) I wish Cameron cooper videos were around in 1987 ..He truly embraces that EVH sound ..EVH has pushed the electric guitar too its limits ..RIP Edward ..YOUR SPIRIT WILL LIVE LONG IN CAMERON COOPER x

King Edward Van Halen RIP. Edward Van Halen was the reason I started playing the guitar in the the late 70's. I started building guitars in the 1990's, then opened a guitar manufacturing company in 2007. All of the guitars we built, borrowed innovations King Eddie innovated. I.E., carbon fiber rods in the necks, potted pickups, heel adjust wagon wheel necks, holy grail wood combos, and voiced pickups to mimic that quintessential "Brown Sound". In my book Edward Van Halen was the best guitarist ever. He changed the way guitars are made and changed the way they are played. We lost a national treasure!

Thanks Cameron. I watched the Steve from Boston video last night and he paid tribute to ‘how you get it’. I think it would be a great thing to reach out to him and maybe do something together in the future.

Cam, this was a beautiful tribute to the king himself. I’m still just in shock that we all lost him. Ed literally changed the course of my whole life. Without what he created, I may not have picked up the guitar as a kid, and who knows where I’d be. Thank you for making this, Cam.

Thank You Cameron for your spot on renditions of Eddie's masterpieces.
I'm totally speechless, all I can say is that I feel fortunate to have been witness to the phenomenon that was Van Halen and I was blown away the very first time I heard Van Halen on the radio it was "Eruption" and "You Really Got Me," I remember thinking who is this its certainly not the Kinks LOL
Well I was 17 years old and it wasn't very long after that I started learning how to play the guitar.
I'm grateful that I had the opportunity to see Van Halen three times throughout the 1980s once with David Lee Roth and twice with Sammy Hagar.
This is a great loss of genius talent for the music world and especially the guitar community. Eddie was a one of a kind an innovator and a Legend!
R.I.P. Eddie Van Halen "The King of Rock Guitar!" 🎾
Heaven will be electrified upon your arrival, now you can jam with Jimi Hendrix, Randy Rhoads, Dimebag Darrell, Chris Cornell, Neil Peart and Stevie Ray Vaughan!
You have left a hole in the Rock and Roll World!

Cam thanks for this tribute! Eddie turned the guitar world on it’s ear in ‘78. It’s only been a day and I miss him so much. Great job paying your respects to one of my idols! Jam on brother!

I am honestly BLOWN AWAY. There’s all sorts of players who can technically play the notes on the tablature, but it’s extremely difficult to even come close to EVH’s feel or tone. You’ve managed to do BOTH!
The only other players I have ever heard who are also great at this are SATSUMA3042 from Japan and Jacob Deraps from Canada. I now must include you in that list. I salute you! đŸ‘đŸ»đŸ˜Ž

25 years ago I started playing guitar because of Eddie Van Halen. Awesome tribute Cameron. Play it loud as I reckon King Eddie will be looking down grinning and adding a thumbs up to you "like" tally. RIP Eddie 😭
