ElkinsDIY.com Presents: We had two big trees growing too close to our home, so we had them cut down 5 years ago. What do you do with the stump? Make a Gnome home of course!
For all of you who are still complaining about the loss of a tree, why not LISTEN to Paul's explanation. It's pretty simple - I'm sure many of you can grasp the reason. Great idea Paul - thanks for sharing!!!
Those of you who think that gnomes are the stuff of fantasy may want to read my seven page article titled, 'I Was Blinded By a Gnome'. This occurred to me on July of 2017, and Lon Strickler of Phantoms and Monsters, was kind enough to post it on his site. As a result of my encounter i now collect unique Garden Gnome Statuettes, and am considering creating a Gnome Garden. Paul, your video has inspired me to construct a Gnome Stump Home...thank you for posting it.
To quote a famous line: ' I put my pants on just like the rest of you -- one leg at a time. Except once my pants are on, I make golden ideas!' Not really, but I'm always thinking of something. Have been since I was a kid.
Fantastic I love it, we have to cut trees down now and then, I am a bit of a tree hugger but if a tree was too close to my house and getting bigger I would cut it down. We need to lighten up here a bit here it is a fantastic use of an old tree stump.
Magical, just magical! I have only recently discovered your 'site' and I've found it to be fascinating and uplifting...I really hope your projects for 'homeless living' get the support and respect that they deserve. Live long and prosper Paul, and may your creativity do the same!!
I wish I had thought of this with our tree stump in our back yard. My dear husband ended up hacking away at it every day for about an hour or so; he figured he needed the exercise anyway. My kids would have loved a fairy house tree stump in our back yard. Oh well, maybe I'll have the opportunity again some time. :) Thumbs up on the video and I added the video to a new playlist called "Fairy Houses". Thank you so much for your time!!!
Make your art in dead wood, not in LIVE Wood! Such a beautiful massive sacred TREE!!! I couldn't enjoy none of your art because it born from a murder. I felt pain every cut you did to that Living Tree! You can make it so beautiful if you don't sacrifice any Life! Art is not killing! Art is giving life without taking any! Art is Give, not take!
OMG!! HE'S KILLING THOSE POOR TREES!! Just kidding Paul. My Dad had the same problem at his house. We didn't want to lose the trees but we had no other choice. The front path and front wall of the house were showing visible cracks. I think it's really cool and inventive what you've done. LOL
I love this! I have a street tree that the city's been threatening to cut down due to voids in the trunk that make it dangerous. I'll miss the tree but I've dreamed of at least putting a little roof on the 5-foot "stump" and letting the birds continue to nest in the voids. Thanks for posting this - now I can share it with the city tree crew when it comes time to "do in" the tree...
OMG! HE"S KILLIN THOSE TREES!!! Lmao. Hey another great project. I enjoy your videos. I plan on doing this one for my lil Princesses playhouse. She found a garden gnome at a yard sale and was using it to mock James Yeager who is here on CZcams. This will be perfect for her. Looking forward to more of ypour projects.
This is fantastic -- very decorative. When the gnomes move out of this little house -- the fairies will move in. If you do not believe me, read a book on fairies. I suggest: "The Fairyselves." It tells the entire truth about fairies, button-trolls, leprechauns -- where they live, what they do, why they are here, how they are magical, their jobs and occupations, what they look like and all sorts of good stuff.
When cutting down/removing trees, think season........As a Wildlife Rehabber, most of the arboreal wildlife babies &/or injured adults we treat, come to the shelter, IF they survive the crash. When falling your trees, first consider the season & who is raising their family up there.
@@gailcirac4485 If you were paying attention you would know that two trees were threatening the house and needed to be cut down.. Although I am sure he would rather have not had to do so...one cannot allow one's home to be destroyed for a tree...and I am sure he has planted other trees like I do if one must be moved....
I think it's a great use of the trees stump like an honour to the trees memory.Sometimes trees have to be cut I only get pissed when there is no good reason.
You should totally run power out to that stump and fit some lights behind the door and window for effect at night : ) Kind of reminds me of the elfin oak in Kensington gardens, London
awesome... we did the same thing (chopped down dangerous trees too close to the house) I am also planning to turn the stumps into either a gnome or fairy house for my grandchildren to enjoy... still looking around the internet at what others have done to get a feel for what would work in my garden... like you it annoys me when people say "Oh the poor tree"... AND like you (if people cared to look in the background of your video) we have many, many other trees on our property to compensate for the 1 or 2 we chopped down for OUR safety (not to specifically make this garden art)... I like your gnome home very much... simple yet whimsical :D oh and greetings from Australia :P
Different and certainly looked fun to do! What a sensible thing to do with a redundant stump in your yard which no doubt wouldn have taken a lot of work and money to remove the whole dan thing! Like it!
That's cool! I've been painting smooth concrete or cinder block walls to look like stonework. Just the other other day I was doing one and added a gnome door where there was a stepped looking area.
Yeah, but the tree isn't being wasted if it is going toward homes or furniture. If they just cut it down just to cut it down and not use it then people get mad.
+UltraEmilyRose Thanks for that. I've been getting some very critical comments on this video, probably cutting down the tree on the first scene wasn't a good idea. It was needed and I wanted to make something cool remember the trees.
if you read the descrition it clearly says he cut down the tree bcuz it was growing too close to his home. he reused it so i dnt get why some people keep mentioning the tree....anyways i think it was a very nice gnome home.
I fancy Faeries myself, but to each their own. There ist always room for a worthy Gnome. Even if dwarf-like creatures can sometime scare. They never seem, to be more mean, than a ferocious teddy bear. Like judging a book's cover & lace, or a Gnome's shadowy figure at dark. You may never know by a Gnome's face...of das love that ist in their heart. giggles...I crack me up. Have a fun day. Auf Wiedersehen aus Wiesbaden :-)
would be so cool to put a wood chip smoker and led in it to illuminate the window and billow/wisp smoke out the chimney;-) maybe even make a 1lb Jerky/fish smoker inside the stump with the chimney/stove-pipe as the vent;-?
Paul you are FANTASTIC.............I wish I lived near you ....so you :) could make a home for 'allllllllllllllllllll' my Gnome's.............Keep up the GREAT WORK !!!......
Here that's a great job you did bar one small issue i have. See if I was a Gnome just back from a hard days work and I opened that lovely front door i'd be a bit pissed to find the rest of the tree not hollowed out. When's it getting finished?
You broken my heart . I love plants.
Why?

It's not about having too much time on your hands (we all have the same amount of time) I think Paul just spends his time better than most people do.

Back when we were kids, we had cartoons that taught us to be creative. Nice job on the stump, if you can call it a stump anymore?
zoffinger Yeah, instead of watching CZcams videos, he's making them for the rest of us to enjoy. :)

who didn't "like" this ... people ! this is whimsical as well as art and craft ! Thanks Paul for sharing.
What a great way to salvage a tree stump! Wish I'd have thought of this with an old willow stump we had in the yard. What fun!
Just plain old good work. Thanks for taking the time Brother. Bob from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania

I love people when they do stuff like this it's beautiful
It's adorable! So creative! I'm sure the new tenants are very happy there!
Very cool stump usage, your Gnomes should be very happy for many years to come!
Beautiful....the house and the fact that you are doing this kind of thing....
Awesome job it looks so cool!! What a great project and thanks for letting us see it!

This is Awesome! I too have a diseased and dying tree that I’ve tried to save to for 25 years….I’m gonna make a GNOME house! Thank you!!!!!!!!
Thank you for posting this. It's exactly the type of inspiration I was hoping for when I got on CZcams. Love what you did.

The Stump house is really cute but a sad replacement for such a big beautiful pine tree cut down.
The beautiful, green tree looked healthy and didn't appear to be near any buildings in case it fell down!
Look in the back. Also don‘t you know tree roots can go several yards underground? This is the exact same problem my condo community had.
Just wonderful and so inventive. I love whimsy in the garden.
That is so cute and creative now I know what to do with a stump I've got.

My grand daughter would love one of those in my backyard. The chimney pipe is a great touch!
This was very cool to watch, now my daughter wants us to make one. ;)
OMG, Those trees where gorgeous!!!!!!

Well done, beautiful wonderful and very imaginative gnome sweet home.
I love this. Fantastic job Mr. Elkins.
Amazing!!! You are so talented!!! Thank you for sharing!!!
Looks very good, and it is much easier as you have remove the stump.👍👍👍

Какая у вас фантазия и умелые руки! Сказочный домик получился!!! 😁
Very creative response to an unfortunate but necessary decision !!!
So cute ..
I hope someday i surprise my kids with such a cute idea .
Dealing with nature is the best way to really feel relax , calm and normal 😌
What a pity that the beautiful tree was cut!
My thoughts exactly.
Me, too. You cut down a healthy tree for that!? 😮

that is so precious terrific idea did a fantastic job can't wait to see the other one
you did a great job on the house ...
Super cute. It's not like you're clear-cutting a forest or anything. Sometimes you gotta cut down a tree or two to make a Gnome home.
sometime in the future, someone is going to find this and think it's some amazing ancient gnome architecture
Oh yeah, especially if other people find the little fairy gardens people have made. They’re going to think gnomes and fairies were legit.
I think it's a great use of the trees stump like an honour to the trees memory.Sometimes trees have to be cut I only get pissed when there is no good reason.
WELL how neat is that, sure beats looking at a STUMP!Buzzy hands are happy hands!!

The poor tree! So magnificent and just cut down.
I know it was a beautiful, living, live creature, and just for what reason?

For all the people concerned about why the tree was cut, you better damn well not have any wood furniture in your house.
***** Hell, you know their homes were made out of wood.
