  • Food, Gas, Electricity, Propane...all these things are slowly being taken away from the public by banning appliances. Now they want to limit water usage in the same manner. What's next? Air?

I hand wash using 2 dish tubs and recycle the water dirty water is fed to my lawns ( minus any food sediment) and the rinse water becomes my mop bucket water or to flush the toilet with. So maybe 5 gallons a day I only wash dishes once a day in the evening, maybe that's why they are counting 20 gallons if you fill up the sink 3 X a day and rinse 3 X a day. And maybe different if you have large family? Anna In Ohio

    I'm one person. I leave nothing except my large appliances plugged in. My water and light bill is over $100 a month l and i just got a letter that both are going up AGAIN so they can continue to provide reliable and quality services. I wrote to my republican senator duey strobel and asked him what he was going to do to help me. He wrote me back and told me he can't. He says he's out manned in govt because people keep voting wrong. I wrote back and asked him why i was paying him if he can't help me. So far no response. I dont expect to ever receive one.

    • @katie7748
      @katie7748 Před 2 měsíci +7

      Yep. My husband is an OTR trucker but even between myself and our children we still don't use that much. No lights unless needed and nothing stays plugged in except fridge, oven, and freezer. (Unplugging the oven when not in use as some have suggested is ludicrous...the plug is all the way down by the floor and it doesn't fit properly between counters so getting it shimmied in n out every time is more trouble than it's worth.) Oh, water heater stayed plugged in, too. I'm not putzing with that. We are all electric here. No gas. No propane. Winter heat only when needed and set to 66 (any colder and the pipes will freeze...had that problem last year. Never an issue when we lived in the Upper Midwest, not even at -60. Having a basement up there helped...wind and cold gets into the crawlspace here...) and in summer the AC only goes on when it's too hot n sticky and it gets set to 76-78. Winter bill was almost 400/mo and that was WITHOUT an oven or washing machine!! Summer bill has been better, less than 200 so far but it's only halfway through June...
      But I know the feeling on poly tick people being next to useless. I've tried in the past so many times but got either nothing or empty, canned responses. I've not been living here long enough (less than a year) to feel I have the right to make a stink or vote or any of that yet but I expect it'll be the same here. Sigh. Hang in there as best you can (((hug)))

    • @katie7748
      @katie7748 Před 2 měsíci

      @@marendababcock6104 Yes. We don't have lamps except the grow light. We don't watch TV unless we pop in a DVD or VHS. I don't drink coffee. It's really not difficult once you get into the habit of unplugging when you're done with it. Phone chargers and fans get unplugged, too.
      Edit: I should mention that I grew up being constantly told not to waste electricity and as of 6 years ago when I had c■■cer, we (myself, my husband, and our children) have a goal to "do it like the Ingalls" as much as possible. We do dishes by hand. We do some of our laundry by hand. We are working on rain catchment. Shrug. It's not that difficult, really. If our ancestors could do it with far less conveniences than we have, so can we.

Also was helping with cooking / preparing food around same age. Helped with hanging clothes out and folding clothes up. By time I was 8 I could cook a meal. I loved doing it. I also started watching children at 8 years old. Because I helped with my sibling I know how to care for children. I would even watch kids close to my age. The parents knew I could handle the kids and if anything took place I could handle that too. I love kids. I was and still am great with children. Kinda my calling...love to cook, bake..all things included in being a wife, motherhood, i wanted to do and be. I still have where children will come up to me when I'm out and about. I guess I'm a kid magnet. I'm so very thankful that my mom, grandmothers taught me and my sisters all they could. Even my daddy taught us things we needed to know. I miss them dearly. I have not used over the minimum usage of water in the last 25 yrs. Ceiling fans let's me not turn on my a/c for 2 months of the summer. I am sure my a/c uses more energy. They are not using any logic. My average of water is $25, electric $120, and propane $ 75 per month. Note that I prepay an extra 50% every month. So I have a year's worth prepaid. I could go a full year without paying any utilities. I wash dishes by hand, but I fill both basins with water, one to wash and one to rinse. Sometimes if needed, I will presoak a pot or pan, but it only takes 2 1/2 gallons of water to wash my dishes. I do 2 loads of laundry a week on the average, 4 when doing bedding. I hang my bedding outside during the summer months. So yes, conserving water is important. Everyone should do it, but if the government wants to control everything, let's start with the excessive spending they do! Cut their spending in half first, then let's talk about our conserving of energy. JS

After my father passed away, I took the main circuit breaker box and four new windows still in the wrap from his garage. The house was going to be torn down. I dig up tree stumps with a shovel, burn my trash in the holes where the stumps were and when the holes are almost full, I finish filling up the hole with dirt. And the men are the ones that are always trying to design all the kitchen stuff for women. And the kitchens are just terrible. The way they are designed so small you can’t even cook. Everybody hast to go out to eat all the time. The kitchens are too small and you run into each other all the time. And the women don’t have enough room to even cook in them. Like those stupid washing machines that have that really short agitators. Don’t work for shit, had to wash the load twice before the load got completely wet!

      Mine (sm agitator) works great; however, I often use soak mode & let things hangout a few hours before rinsing.

      Yep. We have a goal of trying to "do it like the Ingalls" as much as possible. It's a slow process but in the meantime, I demanded an *old school* washer and dryer. I still don't have a dryer and really only want it for certain blankets we have that I'd really rather not hang outside so it's no biggie. The washer we got is 25 or so years old. If I don't wash by hand that's what I use. I also make our own laundry powder. Everyone (of all ages!!!) I mention this to in person scrunches up their face in disgust or looks at me horrified. To each their own I guess.

      @amyarsenault9053 Agreed!! And those newfangled ones with the stupidazz "sensing technology" are a nightmare! My BFF has one. It takes so damm long to get just one load done. The old school one we have takes 20-30min and has a nice tall agitator so if I choose to use that over hand washing, I have no worries it won't get clean.

      @@amyarsenault9053 I understand getting things done. We all have our own situations. I work remote & put in to soak before work, put on rinse over lunch & dry/hang afterwards.
      I chose this model when caring for a family member and washing a lot of bed linens.

    Hahaha!!! The Cadillac Cimmaron… I remember those! My older sister, who always attempted to hobnob with the doctors in town (she was a seamstress), had a Cimmaron. I was a nurse and knew a lot of the doctors…and didn’t want to hang around them when I wasn’t working. One day when she was having a fall bonfire, one of her doctor friends asked whose car that was. I told him whose it was and they laughed and said “ that’s a Chevy with leather seats and a Cadillac badge! I’d rather have that Volvo sitting out front!” The Volvo was mine…. Really made her mad😂

      @@patches1483 gonna have to do what the immigrants do. Live 20 to a house. Make bedrooms individually lockable and families live in each. 🤷‍♂️ two bunk beds for a family of 5. Same for our seniors. Can have a roommate or live in your car. Is it how I’d want it hell no. But those are your/their options. I’m looking at the possibility of sleeping on the couch and rent out my bedroom if need be. If that’s what it would take 🤷‍♂️

    Thanks, Pinball. We do both the dishwasher and hand wash. Pots, pans, and knives are hand washed. The rest goes in the dishwasher.
