Midway through, I discovered we had run out of the rice vermicelli noodles, so I substituted them with a popular brown rice noodle from northern Vietnam.     Canh bánh đa tôm sườn (Rice Noodle Soup with Shrimp and Ribs Recipe)
    Ingredients:
    - 1 - 1.5 pounds of pork side ribs
    - 300g to 1 pound of shrimp
    - 1 shallot, sliced
    - A small handful of dried black fungus
    - 1 pound of sliced pork jowl
    - 1 bundle of green onions
    - 1 bunch of cilantro
    - 1 packet of brown rice noodles (or thin vermicelli noodles)
    - 1 small piece of rock sugar
    - 3 teaspoons of salt
    - 1 tablespoon of chicken bouillon
    - 1 dash of fish sauce
    - 6 - 8 cups of water
    - 8 fish cakes (Chả cá)
    - 1 tablespoon of canola oil
