The purple ones are Decepticons, specifically Megatron and Shockwave. They're the bad guys. The good guys are the Autobots, led by Optimus Prime. That big boi Optimus awakened in the first trailer is Metroplex, an Autobot that transforms into an entire city.
3:25 - Metroplex is an Spiecies of Cybertronian known as the Titan. An Gigantic Transformers that are cepable to turn into colossal starships and even entire cities.
In Transformers Lore, Titans usually lie dormant, and only actevated as an last resort weapons.

These games were literally my childhood, love them so much. Also a cool detail I only just noticed recently is that in the second trailer 4:47 as the song says “the hands of the many must join as one.” You can see the combaticons combine into bruticus.

I remember the first time watching the second trailer shown here, and the chilling sensation down my spine made me at least see the entire Cybertron gameplay. Honestly one of the best interpretation of that timeline.

Funny thing about Transformers, the Autobots are all trucks, ambulances and sports cars, while the Decepticons are always Tanks, Fighter Jets, damn Megatron turns into a freaking gun, so, it's basically a war between the working class vs the military elite of the planet, Idk if that is what they went for, but it seems that way! XD
Slight correction. It depends on the adaptation. The one you described was more aligned towards the original G1 series. Explanation below.
In the WFC/FoC/Aligned Continuity, the war began because of the unfair political caste system. The Decepticons consisted mostly of lower classes: the laborers/gladiators who were forced into it just to get by. The Autobots consisted mostly of the modern citizens who didn't struggle as much (though some became aware about the corruption and sought to change it). Sentinel/Zeta Prime who was the leader at the time was terrible at it. The caste system he created gave too much power to the "nobility" and gave him the image of not caring about the lower class.
Megatron, originally a miner, turned to the gladiatorial arena. After countless of victories (he killed the rival fighters), he saw the corrupt political system and strived to change it. He met Orion Pax (Optimus Prime before he became a Prime), and the two would have many philosophical/political discussions and arguments on how to change Cybertron for the better. The whole Decepticon movement was to completely change the corrupt nature and help ensure it doesn't happen again. However, Megatron ironically grew corrupt for power and attempted to force the High Council in naming him the next Prime.
He was rejected in favor for Orion Pax and in retaliation, killed on of the Council members (Councilor Halogen). The Cybertronians who favored Optimus's peaceful method became the Autobots. The ones who supported Megatron were Decepticons. There were very few Cybertronians who could turn into tanks (Warpath) or jets/have the capabiltiy to fly (Seekers who renamed themselves as Aerialbots such as Jetfire and Silverbolt). These polarizing factions eventually led to the war. Blackout, a Decepticon who was a originally gladiator of the lower class told the Dinobot Slug that No matter what Optimus tried to do, there was no way the nobility would listen to his peaceful method and step down from power. War was going to happen no matter what. He doesn't regret being a Decepticon. He only regretted the war lasted so long to the point it destroyed their planet.
TLDR: Corrupt political system and Megatron's irony led to millions long war
This was an amazing game series I just finished streaming a full playthrough on fall of cybertron. It is just a shame that these were one of the last greater installments for this franchise. I still play this game and I recommend it to everyone if you can get ur hands on a steam key. I'm a very big fan of this franchise. I've seen every movie and most of the cartoons. The song used in the second trailer was done by the band Puscifer called the Humbling River. Puscifer is on the side projects of Maynard James Keenan of Tool and A perfect Circle fame
As soon as I saw this video drop I immediately stopped everything to watch it because transformers is my most childhood favorite thing especially the games I really hope you guys play it

I grew up with the transformers movies and the beast machines cartoon. There's so much depth and variety to this franchise. Transformers is at its best when its constantly reinventing itself which it does pretty often
I HATE how these are delisted now, can't buy them from the store unless you get it through a 3rd party. These games were my childhood, my first multiplayer game and online experience with friends. Transformers is a franchise that has grown with me, probably one of the most important series that I've experienced. These games were both fantastic, they are full of passion and well made in their own right. I desperately hope Reactivate is as good as these games.

As to the topic: Along with Beast Wars/Machines, this was probably the most defining moment in the line, even over the movie and hitting popular critical mass in the 80s. A whole new generations fo fans claim these titles as their G1, the thing they'll remember having the most impact and defining how they feel about the property.
Another great transformers video you should check out is called ‘Starscream OVA’. It’s just made by one guy and his friends but the quality is amazing, it’s fully animated, has impeccable voice acting AND music, as is overall a really fun short watch!

Transformers is probably my favourite franchise and Grimlock is my favorite character (the big dude with the sword that turns into a T-Rex).
I'm really happy that you checked these trailers out, can you believe that those games are 10-ish years old?
Quick "check-list" to get you up to the basics on the franchise
-Cybertron was a pacific world until the corrupted Autobot council turned it into a classist and functionist dystopia (functionism AKA you can only be what your alt-mode suggest you can be, a tank cannot be a poet, for example)
-Megatron was a miner turned gladiator who sttarted the Decepticon rebellion to overthrow the senate ("Decepticon" comes from their slogan "they're decieving you" anfter the lies the senate spoke to keep all the energon and riches for themselves)
-an Autobot police officer/docking operator/archivist (depends based on the version) named Orion Pax was moved by Megatron actions and lead those that hated the action of the senate in helping Megatron overthrow them, reclaiming the name "Autobots" as in "autonomous"
-after overthrowing the senate, Megatron became obsessed with power and control, creating his motto "peace through tyranny" believing that a peaceful society can be achieved only by deprieving the population of the freedom of choice
-Orion disagrees and, after recieving the ancient relic Matrix of Leadership, he becomes Optimus Prime, leading the autobots under the motto "freedom is the right of all sentient beings"
-war
-a war that lasted FOUR MILLION YEARS

With that being said, the notable characters in these trailers are:
-Optimus Prime (no introduction needed)
-Bumblebee (see above)
-Megatron (do I beed to repeat myself?)
-Starscream (Megatron's backstabbing second in command, he launches missles at BB, and charges at Optimus carrying the injured BB)
-Ironhide (Optimus' security chief, tough guy, punches Starscream in the face while he's charging at Optimus, eliciting cheers from absolutely everyone in the universe)
-Bruticus (decepticon combiner created by the union of the five combaticons, really powerful but really dumb)
-Grimlock (leader of the dinobots, tortured and experimented on by Shockwave, he's a massive powerhouse whose judgement gets often clouded by rage)
-Metroplex (legendary titan, a type of ancestral transformers so massive that they can function as cities for other transformers)
-Trypticon (giant decepticon, a titan in many timelines, with immense bloodlust that turns into the decepticons' signature warship, the Nemesis)
-Omega Supreme (giant autobot, part of an ancient order of guardians)
As for suggested videos, I'm gonna throw you a curve ball and suggest a couple of dubs from the IDW comic book run that masterfully illustrate the growth of Megatron in said comic books:

Now to the video.
War & Fall of Cybertron are essentially time-line wise are from before the transformers get to Earth.
Robotic Darkseid. Well... his name is Megatron but yes I can see the resemblance you drew on.
The glowing of purple is significant as the deceptions use that colour to distinguish themselves their symbol is also purple.
In the case of the story it also has some significance which I won't go into to avoid spoilers.
I will point out one of the reasons for their conflict escalating is that is an energon shortage. Which yes is an allegory of any shortage of major resources. But for both autobots & decepticons it is literally the stuff that keeps them functioning.
In the games we do get to play from multiple povs. One of them is Grimlock. The big transformer with the sword that turned into a T-rex like that spat fire.
The voice-over we end up having in the trailer is the actors doing Optimus Prime & Megatron. Portrayed by Peter Cullen & Fred Tatasciore respectively. Peter Cullen has been voicing Optimus since the original 1980s cartoon though & did the voice for the live action movies as well.
In that trailer the two big transformers are Omega Supreme (Autobot) the one with the beam from their hand that swiped multiple smaller bots at once & the one that looks like a bot Godzilla is Trypticon (Decepticon).
Naturally there is an option of watching & reacting to a playthrough. The games in my experience of playing through them were relatively short.
One of the things I find funny in there is there are few voice actors from Vox Machina in the cast. Travis WIllingham, Sam Reigel & Liam O'Brien respectively.
With Starscream done by Sam Reigel. According to him the character voice wrecked his voice. But still kinda funny to look at the situation hear Starscream but immediately associate it with Scanlan Shorthalt Gnome Bard.
Finally, after months waiting to see this title in my notifications and more exciting with the end of the year theme, this is the best thing to see on the last day of the year.

Man I love how ever since the original G1 Movie the Phrase "One Shall Stand. One Shall Fall." has become such an iconic recurring line throughout various Transformers Shows, Games, and Movies.
Optimus Prime is my favorite Transformer by far, especially his longtime portrayal by Peter Cullen. He's just a great ideal to strive for, as Optimus is the epitome of "The Gentle Giant." He would much rather be diplomatic and talk things through. But when push comes to shove he will fight back and hard to defend his friends and allies.

War for Cybertron and it’s sequel Fall are the peak of Transformers video games and the fact that we haven’t gotten anything close to them in 10 years is a travesty. This brought back a LOT of good memories.

His ‘the basics of Optimus Prime’ video is a great one to start on as you’ll be familiar enough that it’s not alien (pun intended) but you might find the origins of the character interesting!

Even though I didn't understand much beyond, "oh he looks cool!!" as a kid growing up, asking parents to buy me transformers toys at ToysR'us (yeah, I know lol). What now really made me appreciate Optimus in a story-driven sense, is that besides his strength or even lack thereof in certain circumstances, it's his will & his defiant attitude - that makes everyone else follow his lead. Megatron & the deceptions rule by fear/intimidation, but Optimus makes it clear no one is forced to follow him, and for as much funny/cliche moments brought on by Michael Bay movies, that theme carries on. Even if at times it definitely looks like Bay made him out to be a sorta of Deception Terminator/bloodlust fighter lol.
In other practical terms, he also uses battle tactics which is cool because physically he is still much smaller than others, and so what he lacks in brute force power he makes up for in tactical coordination & careful observation of his enemies' weaknesses. That and he makes each autobot essentially a 'master' of their craft, knowing their strengths - and cautioning them in what to avoid in battles, so as to not send them off like cattle to a mechanical slaughter lol
Edit: As for Bumblebee, what makes him special is mostly his actual sense of self awareness & willingness to learn. In every battle (this can be seen in movies too) he gradually adapts to different fighting tactics, and accepts his failures or shortcomings, and in part that earns Optimus' respect for him as both a friend, but also a soldier - enough so to lead him in charge when Optimus heads off elsewhere (because despite his youth being an easy thing to view, he makes up for it in getting scrappy & taking down whoever/whatever even at his own cost). A trait most autobot eventually learn to respect as he shows he's willing to subject himself to torture, and death - so as to preserve the lives of others above that of his own. No matter the cost.

I think you two should play the story modes of both games on the channel. Start with War for Cybertron, and then Fall of Cybertron. Both games are two of my favorite games of all time.
