BMW E46 & E83 IHKA to IHKR Retrofit

Early E46 and E83s in the US had an option for manual A/C control (knobs), this is an overview of the mechanical steps to retrofit IHKR in place of IHKA on one of these cars.

Why would someone "retrofit" a less intelligent system when you have already IHKA?

People do things all the time for "Weird" reasons, lol. I like the feel of the knobs personally and its something different. I have converted my rear doors to manual crank windows and I've also removed the sunroof in favor or a solid panel.

Ironically I did start this retrofit because I thought it would be lighter as well... turns out its not or similar enough it doesn't matter, ha.
