He such an underrated baritone but he needs to pick when to use it better. As far as syncing vocals with lead vocals, there's no one in metal that touches him and matt barlow singing together.
I was so disappointed when Matt left the band that i didn't want to listen to Iced Earth again... But Stu made me come back to my old known excitement! His vocal range is amazing! reminds me of Barlow and Halford incarnated in 1 person!
The Tim Owens era is great too. Framing Armageddon and The Glorious Burden are some of Iced Earth's best material. The Ripper is one of the greatest metal vocalists of all time. Barlow was the voice of IE to many of us, but Tim Owens was not only a worthy replacement, but an incredible addition for those years. Not to leave out Stu though, his versitility is fucking unbelievable. He's like the best of both worlds in many ways.

Whhaatt!? Who is this singer!? Close, close 2nd to Ripper Owens. . .doesn't quite have the same range as Ripper. . .this guy can't get the same lows or tone. . .BUT his mids and highs sound awesome! This guy is great.
He can easily get the baritone of Barlow and the highs of ripper, just watch him on the 50000 tons doing Painkiller. Or him singing Dantes Inferno. Both Owens and Barlow couldn't do each others music very well, this guy can fold into either convincingly and with his own style. I will tell you what, I saw IE live pre Owens with Barlow, then the Glorious Burden tour with Owens, then after when Barlow came back in, then again when it was Stu. No one held their own as well as Stu, hands down.
Nice version of the Video with the Audio from Ancient Kourion. But I will prefer the original and I have the DVDs from the concert. But better this way on CZcams to show it to the people than no version
Dunno. I can't warm up to Stu Block. I've discovered the band around 1997 and bought everything. Though I only like this song from "Framing Armageddon" I still would have bought the next CD had Owens stayed with the band. Bringing back Barlow at this point was pure genius, however. At least as far as I'm concerned. Then came "Dystopia" and not a single song stuck. Today I don't even remember the slightest note of it. A totally forgettable effort as far as I'm concerned. "The Plagues of Babylon" was slightly better but basically I just bought it because Iced Earth was my favorite band at one time. So "Incorruptible" became the first Iced Earth Album in about 20 years I haven't bought. I listened to the songs they shared on social media before the release and they didn't click at all. With Ripper or especially Barlow I probably would have gotten it anyway, though. Block however isn't my cup of tea.
I usually don't like slower tempos compared to the original studio release either, but here, you get some great vocal work - especially for a live performance - for it. It's still a trade off, but I think it worked pretty well here.

Either rework the song or completely or try to adapt as much as you can, the middle "musically-politically correct" route fools only casuals
This is one of my favourite IE songs (maybe even top 3) and I have seen all three versions of this song (Ripper's, Matt's and this one with Stu) and to be honest, despite the fact that Ripper is the original studio vocalist for this song, I like his version the least when it comes to live performance. If you compare this, Matt's version at Metal camp 2008, and Ripper's version at Wacken 2007, Stu and Matt put much, MUCH more effort and power into their performances (not mentioning that their mid and low ranges are more powerful than Tim's). Ripper's version at Wacken sounds lazy to me, like he didn't even care. The main example are those looong high notes both Matt and Stu do just before the chorus kicks in.... Ripper just didn't bother to do it, he just cut it and did not hold the note. As I said, it feels lazy to me. I am not hating on Ripper, he is without a doubt a great and talented singer, but when it comes to this song, I listen only to Stu's and Matt's live versions (depends on the mood), I don't listen to the studio one nor the live performance with Tim, simply because I do not like it as much as with Matt and Stu (which is quite irronic since Ripper is the original one on this song). Move around more, jump, move your hands, go to John and give him the mic... just do something. On a song like this I could have ran around the whole stage at least twice! When you sing you should be standing and having right posture to be able to sing well. You can do something when you're not singing, but you can't jump and run, because you'll run out of breath in a few seconds
