Coming from a Boosted Board V2 Plus, this is the ultimate board. I commute 20 miles each way to work, ride it through the bike park, and I can literally go everywhere. Once you live with the board, you will fall in love with it. I wouldn't trade back to a Boosted Board under no circumstances based on my needs. GET ONE SAM!!

I've been riding the GTX now for about a year...
The best thing since sliced bread!
Make sure you go off-road with it (on the grass) it's heaps of fun..
Not sure what you meant by the controller, I do like the R2 after just upgrading from the previous remote..
But agree it has some 'evolving' still to do....
Go for the group ride, you'll love it..
    Enjoy..

I ride with a Ruroc. Even in the hot weather as long as you're riding, the airflow keeps it cool. Not something to wear standing around though.
I do swap to clear lenses every night to ride home from work. The quick swap is easy and really fast.
The lettering on the helmet is some sort of sticker and a lot of mine have pealed off.. but i dont mind much.
They scratch pretty easy but also have saved my head from some gnarly branches.

3:45 "when you re-engage the throttle you have to find where you were in order to start accelerating again." That didn't really make sense to me when I first watched this. Now I own an Evolve Board and I TOTALLY get what you mean! I don't remember it being like that on a Boosted. It's like, if you let go of the throttle on a boosted and then you hit it again, even if you're already going fast, it feels like it still gives you a little bit of juice. You still have the option for more or less power. But on the Evolve if you're going fast and you let go of the throttle and then start to press it lightly in order to get a little bit of power it doesn't feel like it does anything! And I'm pretty sure that it ACTUALLY isn't doing anything. You have to press WAY down on the throttle in order to get any power at all. So, it seems like the throttle instead of it being tied to less or more power is basically tied to speed. So if you're going 21 mph then you let go of the throttle, you press the throttle again lightly because you want to slow down a little but you still want to have some momentum, the remote doesn't really do anything until you press FAR enough down on the throttle to meet that 21 mph zone on the trigger. You have to hit that zone and then play with the throttle from there. It just seems like you're either getting power or you're coasting. Like the ESC doesn't really have the ability to slow down while giving SOME small amount of power to the motor/wheels... It's very difficult to explain without actually feeling it yourself. But hopefully with a few more words, that maybe made a little more sense to anyone who cares LoL...

DUDE.. FINALLY... i have been trying to educate boosted board enthusiasts for two years now on why EVOLVE boards are so much better... i've been hoping a reputable tech reviewer in the states who rides boosted would compare it with evolve bamboo gtx. those wheels are unbeatable.. the ride is so smooth.. you don't feel any bumps.. you can climb up anything in a city.. not worry about ledges and curbs... no rattle.. its the Ferrari of boards.. its just so practical for in city commute. and yeah my one thing is a wish it went backwards... but i put 14 miles a day on my board commuting in LA (been riding for five months) and it is a dream.

    These are pretty bad ass.
I just finished an exhaustive range test of the Carbon GT that I'll put up in a couple days. Bottom line is that if you are looking for range and have the discipline to keep your speed at 10mph you WILL go 30 miles using the 107mm wheels and the 38T sprocket.
    To me that's just nuts.
Same set up of wheels and belt and at 15-16 mph you will go 22 miles. More if you aren't a 200lb old fart like I am.
I'm going to round out the test using the off road tires.
Glad you got your first taste of the Evolve boards.

Evolve is like the 07 sti you modded the shit out of to a point where one more bolt on or a new tune will fuck up the transmission. Its not reliable, but its fast as fuck and fun as fuck. Its a fun afternoon car. boosted is a mercedes. no maintanence required, streamlined, and more comfortable and "safe" as a daily. I have 4k total on evolve carbon and bamboo gt and 2k on boosted. sometimes, you just need to slap on those big ass at wheels on the bamboo and go for a ride. convince youself that youre either shredding on fresh powder or the perfect wave. as fun as evolve is, the signal issue and remote design pushes me to ride boosted as my daily. either way, love for both companies and their incredible customer service compared to others.

As a GTX owner I agree with everything you said. The Boosted remote feels much nicer in my hand (though you do get used to the trigger and get more confident especially if you used the R1 remote before they had the R2) and I wish I could go backwards with motors though you could just kick back my Evolve free rolls much better than the Boosted even with AT wheels. Also gotta mention even though the AT wheels are so huge the deck still doesn't feel as high off the ground as some other longboards with 80mm wheels (or some electric boards like the Liftboard).

  • @billcollis431

a tip for people looking at getting any Evolve AT board install some tyre liners into the AT wheels since I did this to mine I have had no flat tyres, I was getting punctures weekly no joke, glass seems tobe the main cause of punctures for me, tyre liners can be purchased at just about any bike shop, just take a wheel with you so you get the correct width, however should you get a puncture while out and about the board will limp home u will just use more battery, I don't think evolve recommend riding with a flat tyre however if your stuck the board will do it, just try shift some of your wait off the side with the flat tyre :) hope this is helpfully

The footage looked insanely smooth, loved the shots, and liked all the music in this edit as well. The whole edit had a vibe that was fitting to the content. I would love to try that thing in comparison to the boosted board, its gotta feel so high off the ground, not sure if i would like that or not. But that off roading test looked real good. Also I don't know if you do this in every video but I like how you call attention to what you are shooting and recording on, so many youtuber's don't seem to know anything about their camera gear, so its nice to see someone who is all about it in their videos. Sam, I can't see why the larger wheels would have any impact on speed. I am guessing the slower speed just has to do with design decision. Those larger tires must provide a way smoother ride than the boosted board's wheels. Seems like a pretty good product for 1st gen.

The R2 is a beauty for constant cruising, my index finger is crazy relaxed the entire time and it does not slip due to the huge surface area of the trigger. Not to mention it displays remote battery life also AND speed, both awesome features :) you'll come to like the R2!

With the old remote you can do reverse, I think I would hate the new remote because the brake is a separate button and that doesn't seem to give the quick response times I have with a single throttle.
Do notice you are protected by a key of a single byte so if somebody wants to be a jerk he could facepalm you in ~half a second depending on the Arduino/Radios used... Just be extra careful if you ride with other Evolve boards nearby!

  • @batmaninuhland

Because I couldn’t get a boosted board in Europe 2017, I tested a Evolve CarbonGT for one day.
I prefer Downhill Longboard since the eighties, so I tested the top speed and stability. I ordered a CarbonGT after my test with Street and All Terrain Wheels plus 97mm wheels. The board is similar to the sector9 carving Longboards with Gullwing Sidewinder Trucks. It was easy to get it waterproof and the range depends on the surface and speed between 10 and 30miles with one charge. I bought the second generation of the remote with a extended battery and our Evolve Service Team in germany showed me all features.
The board is rock solid, 20mph is my favorit travel speed and I use my Evolve every day 10miles minimum.
After one year I ordered my second Evolve the Evolve One for 999,- Euros. I ordered it with 80mm Orangatang wheels and modified the Trucks to single Kingpins. Now it feels like a longboard with electrical brakes. 14 pounds of weight and I only have to charge it once in two weeks. Downhill it is very fast and stable, with electrical motors I have a range of more than 30miles.

MaV3ŕiCkS mAyHeM no they aren’t. It’s the Evolve limitation to their ESC which can’t confidently control downhill speeds greater than flat ground top speed. I had the Evolve R2 remote same thing still happened. Smooth within factory advertised speeds for a given wheel to pulley ratio, potential death above said speeds.

    • @MaVeRiCk77
      @MaVeRiCk77 Před 6 lety

Jason Latorre I can only speak from my experience & while I didn't hate the R1, the brakes were too sensitive & sent you flying if you reflex braked. Had the R2 remote for 5 mths now & zero issues. I have full confidence in the brakes. Having said that, I have just purchased a new board & it's not an Evolve. Not because of any issues as I've had none, it's purely a performance based decision.

Sam says the boosted extended range is 199 watt hours. Its technically 267 watt hours. For boosted to give 199 watt hours of relatively sag free power, they give you a 267 watt hour pack. So when your battery is 34% remaining, your board says its empty because boosted wants to keep your ride experience consistent and good!
    www.reddit.com/r/boostedboards/comments/8bidpp/boostedboard_battery_267wh_199wh/
Evolve is cagey about their total watt hours but they specifically don't use 18650 cells like Boosted and DIYers and use cheaper cells with greater voltage sag. The 99 watt hour boosted used 12 18650 cells and Evolve says they'd need ~40 for the GTX so napkin math says ~330 watt hours running 3000 watts at the motors. Evolve freely admits that riders need to be aware of voltage sag on their boards which is why they display it on the remote! Most users report it becoming an issue at 50%-90% battery remaining.
Others in the comment talk about being thrown from the Evolve board. I already linked this video but at 3:31 the evolve rep explains why this likely happens. If you hold the throttle when going up a hill and taxing the motors alot, you can get the voltage down to 0% which will turn the board off. You have to be watching the voltage on the remote and let off the throttle and hope the board auto switches to eco mode which will tax the battery less and allow the sag to recover www.reddit.com/r/ElectricSkateboarding/comments/70c496/video_evolve_addresses_concerns_about_voltage_sag/
Again, I'm not trying to piss on the evolve board... I think the offroad tires are tremendously cool and I like all electric skateboard companies because I want the tech to catch on! But I think its critical to understand the technical decisions and tradeoffs that went into the products. On street wheels the Evolve GTX will go 31 miles.... with a laundry list of caveats.

Finally! Those 107’s will decimate. I’m handling crappy roads fine with my 97’s. You’ll also get insane range with the street wheels 💪

How do you get the 107s on the GT? I thought they wouldn't fit. Last time I checked you can't find them anywhere either

    • @RobinZV1
      @RobinZV1 Před 6 lety

Yeah they’ll fit with the right wheel mounts. There are 3rd party options available, too.

I had this board for 6 months. Switched to boosted. Never understood why people liked boosted so much until I rode one. They are far superior.

I have owned the GTX since it came out and the Bamboo GT!! Love them with the AT wheels.. goes over anything and I take them on dirt trails where I MTB! So much better distance, power..Better than Boosted. :)

Once you ride with the 107's you wo't go back, especially with the improved range vs. boosted you can ride till your legs can't take it!
