2023 and this mic is still GREAT. Used the stock preamps...just used it on a rap artist who likes a clear, crisp, smooth sound. Doesn't like a "stacked'" sound. Sounds full and big going thru the stock preamps on a BLA Revolution. Im extremely satisfied with the purchase

No lie I just got the 4040 mic and have to say from switching to the big sister of the 2020 really helped alot not only more clear but really help improve the quality of my voice, step up my voice acting game plus with the id4 great combo 👌, anyway thanks for this review I really love this video and definitely made me happy when finally got my hands on one

I’m starting to do cartoon vo and I’m interested in mics like the cad e100s, sennheiser mk4, Neumann tlm 103, sennheiser mkh 416 and the at4040, and my voice has a lot of treble and a little bass, which do you recommend?
I think I’ve got it down to the sennheiser mk4 vs cad e100s. Can you compare them on a child voice, a female voice, and a male? Maybe on a few instruments?

Really Appreciate this review even 3 years later ... I happen to be looking into this mic currently and I have a MG10XU that i use as my audio interface for singer recording and voiceover. I've been wondering if it would be worth it to upgrade/change my audio interface. Could you please share your take on the MG112XU compared to a decent stand alone interface?
According to your experience, which microphone do you prefer for voiceovers (both male and female): TLM 49 or AT 4040 (have you used the AT4050?)

Mic Sounds great! The best sound with the Aphex 230. Can't believe it sounds smoother than the Avalon 737

Know this video was made a bit ago but after receiving air in my box when i bought a shure sm57 i took to the internet in search of something better, hadent considered this microphone yet and was looking at sm7b but it came up relatively close to the top and now ive seen it i can say that ill get this one purely because you took it on a sight seeing tour. How high did you have the gain when she was rapping?
I don’t remember exactly, but i knew I wanted to give myself some headroom. So I usually have my peeks hitting -12db. And lift in post.

it was between 4-5, i had it peeking at -12db
I’ve always used AKG mics and when I tried this one it sounds harsh on my voice compared to what I’m used to (AKG Shure) and it’s more harsh even compared to the AT2020 which sound more sweet and pleasant .. it’s kinda midrangy focused mic but have a nice bottom and top too

Man, it is very very very hard to not recommend the MKH416. If you are going to use it, daily, whether you are making money with it or not. Then yes. But if it will get no use or very little. Then be strong and stick with the 4040
@@LoKnows hmmmmmmm damn you....I practice everyday on mic’s and do auditions with them. Fuck maybe sennheiser is the the truth. How do you compare the sound though. At4040 is warm and very round ... I know singers like it and some like the tlm103 but I’m not interested in the tlm103. It’s sennheiser I hear that is just deadly. Your thoughts?
You know in the end it’s all subjective. I always like to say. If the house was burning down, the MKH416 is the item I’m running back into the house for. I truly wish it was the 1st and last mic I bought. I bought soooo man mics trying to find out what works best for me and when I got the 416 it was over.
@@LoKnows yeah fair... i Just coincidently had another audition and it worked out ok.
my agent says the quality is good cuz I sorta soundproofed a closet. I am just curious for performance reasons can I do more interesting things with the proximity effect of the 416. (which I hear is the case) and also with it, I am told very little post-production is required.

how far better is the at50 then the at40
IMO its not night and day but I do prefer the 4050. I haven't compared them lately but I do remember preferring the 4050 but I could have been bias. :)
I wouldn't say it's better, but I did prefer it for vocals. It's hard to stay truly not bias based on our expectations. I haven't a/b'd them actually. You can't go wrong with either. The preamp will affect your mic much more than anything other than your talent of coarse. Thanks

I bought this mic a couple of days ago. Very fun to see what it might do in some of these unlikely use settings. But I definitely will be looking at the Yamaha mixer... or the Zoom H6N.

Really good question. It is a $100 difference. The At4040 has a better shock mount, a pad and lowcut, it looks better too. The X2 in my opinion just sounds so good, especially on my voice I think. But you can see where they saved $$ on to come in a $100 less. No pad, no lowcut, cheap shock mount and body, but man the x2 sounds good. Maybe you might be infested in the x3. The upgraded all those things to be more visually align with the At4040. Hope that helps.
