German Schmear Fireplace Ideas (Brick & Rock) and Testing Mortar Mix & Joint Compound

In today's video, I am sharing my research on German schemer on brick and German schemer on stone fireplaces. Included in this video is a test of applying German schemer to bricks using a grey mortar mix and joint compound or sparkle on the other red bricks.
Then at the end of the video are examples of German schemer brick fireplaces and German schmear rock fireplace for more mortar wash inspiration.

Why didn't you make the mortar seams on your test bricks? This would allow for an accurate test as the fireplaces being schmeared has the mortar seams.
Why spackle? Why not grout? Spackle is for drywall.
I would do grout on my fireplace and moss-crete on exterior walls.

Mortar mix looks better and will add some structural integrity and fill in any voids you may have.
