Clayton: Clayton here at etrailer.com. Today, I'm going to walk you through the installation of a PTC custom cabin air filter on our 2019 F-150. This filter is constructed of a white media particulate. It's going to block 90% of contamination's coming through your air. This isn't only good for you, but it's good for your passengers. This installation is fairly simple and very easy to do yourself so there's no need to take your vehicle somewhere to have somebody do it and charge you.
I do mine every other time I change my oil. It's a very simple thing to do. This cabin filter is pleated. What these pleats will do is catching any contaminants coming through your air system. That way they don't end up in the cab of your vehicle.
As you note, there is an air flow arrow pointing down, and this will make it easy for when you're doing installation to know which way this air filter is supposed to face.To start our installation, the cabin filter is going to be behind our glove box. We're going to open our glove box. As you can see, there's a stab here. There's these little inlets. You can pull it down and then kind of wiggle it a little bit and you'll be able to pull it out towards the outside of the vehicle.
After removing the adapter on the right side of our glove box, you'll see, there's a nub here on the left side. We're going to pull out towards outside of the vehicle and that will release our glove box. We'll fold it down. We'll now remove this rubber piece, simply just pull out and the rubber pieces snap off. After removing our rubber cover, we now need to remove this plastic cover for our glove box.
You can take a nylon pry tool, wedge the tool under, pull up and out, up and out, and up and out. Don't apply too much pressure. You could break the plastic clips on the backside of this. Then it'll come out with ease. As you can see, there's plastic snaps that'll fit into your cover. After removing our plastic cover, next, we'll have two bolts that are seven millimeters. You can use a socket and wrench. I'm going to use an impact. Next, we need to remove this plastic cover that we just removed the hardware from. Simply pull out on the plastic. Be careful on this side because there is a switch. As you can see here. There is a tab to remove this wire. Push down and pull out. After moving this plastic cover, as you can see, this is where our cabin filter is housed. There's two tabs on either side, simply pull out to the outside and this will fold down. This step's very important because there should be an airflow arrow, depending on which direction we need to put our new filter in.After removing our filter, it's important to keep it the same direction as it came out. As you'll notice, there's an arrow pointing down, this is important for our airflow and we will also install our new filter in the same direction. As you can see, this filter's pretty dirty, even though it is a new vehicle, you can see how much more dirty this filter is on my right hand. Even though this car is very new, you can still see there's a lot of dirt and debris inside of this filter. It's going to change these. I like to change mine yearly, but it's always good to change these because it makes your AC unit work harder. And in the long run, that'll save you a lot of money. Now we're ready to install our new filter. As you can see, the arrows are pointed down. Like I mentioned before, this is crucial for the air flow in your AC unit. We're going go ahead and push our cabin filter all the way back. You might have to shake it around a little bit, to get it to go in completely and push it all the way back til it seats in the back of the housing. Now it's time to put our cover back on. There's going to be two tabs on the bottom that you're going to want to line up. They kind of drop into the plastic holders then you push up. When you hear a snap, you know it's seated. After you put that cap back onto the cabin filter cover, everything else will re-install just like you took it apart. Thanks for taking a look at the cabin filter for our 2019 F150. Thanks. Have a good day.
