I was once at this dam when I was about 10. It's somewhere close to Zwettl. You're at the Truppenübungsplatz Allensteig.
Das ist der Stausee Ottenstein und tatsächlich gehören nur Teile des Ufers des Sees zum Truppenübungsplatz Allentsteig. (Der Damm selbst nicht)
Ich hab nur gemeint, dass der Truppenübungsplatz, wo er gerade übt Allensteig ist. Das der Stausee zum Truppenübungsplatz gehört habe ich nicht vermutet. Ich bin sogar verwundert darüber, dass Teile des Ufers zum Übungsgelände gehören, das hab ich nicht gewusst.

Tolle Berichte, die eine bisher für mich nicht bekannte Tiefe in die Ausbildung/Equipment des Österreichischen Bundesheeres zeigen. Hut ab vor der Ausbildungstiefe/-Breite der dortigen Jäger, der für mich immer noch interessantesten weil ursprünglichsten Militäreinheiten. Leider dürfte das mit dem Gefecht anno 2017 kaum Bedeutung haben, hier dominieren Drohnen/Luftwaffe/Cyberwar...

Man...I was so pumped when you mentioned going down a wall, then I saw the size of the dam. I loved rappelling when I was in the military, and thought that is what you were going to get to do. Needless to say, it was quite anticlimactic to watch you simply get lowered to the ground without any control over your decent.
What is the purpose of that training?
TheRandy5607 I'm not sure as I'm just a kid but I think it was to get a feel of how suspended in the air while trying to rappel down the dam before they go and do it the proper way.
TheRandy5607 he slipped and has to be lowered down the rest of the way. Because of how those rappers work, you can't safely regain control
As someone experienced in rappelling, I must respectfully disagree. It is not difficult to recover from a slip, or even ending up with your back to the wall. He would be unable to rappel the way he is directly tied into the rope. This exercise was designed to go exactly as it did with him being slowly lowered.

about a year ago i did some sort of climbing course and we had to let ourselves of a railing using a rope frome like 15 meters and it was scary as shit. i can emagi e that this was even more scary only we had controll over how fast we went down

Abseilen in Allentsteig, hab ich leider nicht gemacht, aber kopfüber von ner Brücke war schon mal drinnen, oder aber auch von der Kletterwand kopfüber runter... nur war mein Gurt weit angenehmer und komfortabler als das was ihr da hattet :P sorry ;)
P.S. die Fahrstuhlmusik passt super :P (und wegen der Beine, das nennt man Hängetrauma, darum liebe ich die gepolsterten Gurte... aber die gibts halt sehr selten beim Militär)
Allentsteig hat nach wie vor die Betten, vor allem in den Übungsquartieren... hat sich nicht viel geändert dort :P
