- Join me as I take a walk around Old Sarum Castle and the foundations of the old cathedral. There is a great deal of history in this area going back to at least 400BC.
Old Sarum Castle was built in those very early days of King William l aka William the Conqueror.

Ditch? Moat would be more accurate
A moat is another word for a ditch surrounding a castle generally filled with water. It’s still a ditch.
Below is copied from English Heritage
This outer rampart encloses an area of approximately 12ha - larger than the vast majority of Iron Age hillforts, but still only just over half the size of the greatest of them, Maiden Castle (Dorset). Within this there is a second circular ditch and rampart, built for William the Conqueror to enclose the late 11th-century castle.
