In 2011 in Cali I got rear ended in my 1999 Corolla by a Pontiac aztek which destroyed my rear window (tinted) the cop showed up and once he found out the drivers had no license or insurance, said I was free to drive off, a month later, I was notified I got a TINTED WINDOW TICKET (the cop didn't say anything to me!) Needless to say I fought the ticket and won.
a big fan of window tint, it gives cars (especially older ones) new life
It makes them look dumb
A nice well kept old car with near illegal tint is very classy looking.
Old cars 70s and before look like crap with tints most have colorful paints and interior and tints never match that style. It’s too muted for the car
@@wackywolven6192with *illegal* tint 5-20
Zack never disappoints💯
I’ve had tint on every single one of my cars. It’s usually the first mod I do. Currently running 15% ceramic on my Fiesta ST and I love it.
I really like that you do these video essays. I think they pair well with your reviews and I'm always hyped to see one.
What a great video! I'm glad someone finally mentioned the Lexus RX tint! I've wondered about that for so long and I've brought it up to friends many times as a one of a kind oddity. Pretty interesting overview of tint history too!
Absolutely awesome educational video.
In North Carolina, cars can have 35% all around. For trucks the back and rear windows can be any darkness but the driver and front passanger can only be 35%.
North Carolina also charges you an extra $10 to have a car inspected with after market tint.
Great job!
Excellent information.
Taken!! Hahaaa!! Stellar video essay, Zack!
Very cool
Cool video 🌞
Exotic window Tint tinted my car. They did a great job at a great price.
I've been using 50% Front 20% Rear ceramic tint after a huge heat wave. California's legal tint is 70% Front but you can get away from 50%. Any darker and CHP will point it out and write it up. It definitely helps with cutting down the heat. And also blinding head lights from the rear.
One thing I want to point out is a lot of sedans sold rarely get factory tints. I don't think it's exactly a decision to cheap out since I've seen many luxury brands with no tints in their sedans (Mercedes, Audi, BMW, Lexus, Tesla, etc). It's more common to see factory tints in SUVs, minivans, and wagons.
How arent these vids getting more views?? pretty good ones ngl
In my province of Ontario, the tint laws are as follows:
Vehicles manufactured after January 1, 2017, are prohibited from after-market tinting on the front windshield. The legal tint on the front left and right window is 30%
For vehicles before that date...No tint is allowed on the windshield. Any tint level is allowed for the rear windshield as long as the vehicle has both left and right side rear-view mirrors. Front side windows have a limit of 70%, though the back side windows can have any tint level.
Massachusetts is 35% on all side and rear windows, 6" along the top of the windshield at 35% and the tint is tested every year at the annual state safety inspection
In CA where in (unfortunately) currently at, the front windows are limited to 70% while back windows and rear windshield can be as dark as you want, while in my home state of MO the fronts can be 35% while the rears have no restrictions
ZACK! We need video documentaries. 20 30 40 minute videos on... some car thing, your take, your view and commentary. I think it'd be pretty dope.
In sweden we are not allowed to tint windscreen and front side windows at all, but after the B pillar it can be as dark as you want.
Definitely helps preserve the inside of your car from the sun. Definitely helps keep it cool inside.
My mom's 2002 Honda Odyssey EX had factory tint from sliding doors to the back hatch straight from the factory. First row door and windshield doesn't.
My fam in the early 2000’s had a Dodge Grand Caravan with the same mirror tint as the first gen RX. My Dad must’ve added it but I always remember it looking cool and my Grandma complaining that it didn’t look safe every time she saw it 😅.
Getting my car tinted soon ^-^
Going with ceramic 30/35%. (Limit here is 27%)
I’ve got a 2008 Honda Fit, and the AC wasn’t that strong last summer, when the temps were over around 90f.
Window tint isn't going to keep your car cool
3:35 Gol dang that is one goodf looking car, rust withstanding :P

Off topic fun fact:
Best Buy started offering window tint service back around 2010.
Decent price with a employee discount.
Do not know when, they did stop doing window tint.
I THINK the way window tinting laws in my neck of the woods (Nova Scotia, Canada) goes; you can do a lot to the rear side windows, but the front sides, very back & windshield must remain clear.
I mean my coworker around Halifax had runs 5% tint on a loud civic and had yet to be pulled over...
5% all over front back sides
Florida and Alabama every car but a rental has tinted windows and the police don’t enforce any tint laws except windshields or straight limo tint.
I use static cling window film from Amazon. Yes, I am a cheapskate but fun to install.
I thought it was illegal to have dark tinted windows in the front, but I keep seeing more and more cars with that. Also, wouldn't that make your vision worse when you're driving at night? It's like wearing sunglasses at night.
I JUST got my windows tinted a day ago
Texas has pretty lax laws, as long as you have a rear view mirror on the side, you can do as dark as you want in the rear, and 20% on the driver and passenger windows. On 2 door vehicles, you have to do 20% at the lowest, and the back window is whatever you want. Windshields cannot be tinted more than 60%. My 09 town car has 5% on the rear windows and back doors, and 20% on the front two doors, and just the factory blue stripe on the top of the windshield.
Interesting. Nice to know that. I thought my sister's tint was illegal but it seems like the cops don't really care much. Probably is illegal it's super dark.
The inspector got a free trip to Japan
I wish I could afford tint, driving my 02 Mercury Cougar in the summer is absolutely miserable with it being a black car with a black leather interior
It's not so hard to do it yourself. Lots of good tutorials here on YT. Don't expect a perfect result the first time.
I always thought Lexus tint looked odd.
We had a conversion van with mirrored windows all the way around, it had bus like windows on both sides and in the back and it really did help keep out the heat and people seeing in when we were resting, sleeping or using the restroom in the back on vacations all across the country.
I don't think mirror tint is any worse than limo tint but I don't make the rules, and I do suppose it could reflect back in some faces, (but so does Chrome).
I just found out people here in Colorado tint the whole windshield. Ha
A lot of cars now have UV and IR-rejecting glass built in. My state allows anything on the back windows but nothing on the front windows or windshield, as is correct. I never understood wanting to see worse out of your car. I wouldn't drive at night with sunglasses on and I'm not going to drive at night with my head hanging out of the window so I wouldn't permanently reduce the light coming through my windshield and front windows. Cars with tinted front windows and especially windshields should be impounded until the owner replaces them with factory glass. I've seen some cars with windows that must be opaque.
"But the tint keeps heat out!" So does cracking a window when you park. The car's going to get hot regardless.
"I don't want to be seen!" Wear a disguise or don't drive a car you don't want to be seen in or don't do stuff you don't want people seeing.
Jerk.
Do what you want to do and let the rest of us do what we want to do as long as it's inside the law.
I am extremely sensitive to light and have night vision like an owl, so window tint doesn't affect me like it might a 60 year old with glaucoma or a young person with thick glasses' vision.
You wouldn't suggest they not drive.....
You don't know everyone's individual circumstances so shouldn't suggest things like impounding their car because you don't like their tint.
Using your logic every car should also be impounded made after 2005 because the side windows are about half as big as they were in the 80s restricting their vision 100% , not to mention the huge pickup trucks that cannot see anything closer than 30 ft in front of them because of artificially high hoods.
You're fighting the wrong battle here, pal.
Try and impound my car and see what happens.
Most cars nowadays come standard with a modest amount of tinting on the front windows and windshield, so the laws must certainly allow that. What’s worse is that also, minivans, trucks, and SUVs seem to now always have dark tint from the factory on the rear windows. IMO any dark tint will make the interior of a vehicle a miserable place to spend time. My next vehicle will probably be a minivan, and I dread the current lack of customer choice on tinting options from the factory, which will probably force the rear interior of that vehicle to be a dark cave.
Each state has their own laws on Window tint on how thick it can be
... as he repeatedly said in the video
I want red window tint. But ah well.
7:22 Wow different rules for different types of car seems pretty unfair!
Edit: It seems this double standard is pretty commonplace in various states. Yet another reason for buyers to gravitate towards SUVs.
Ohio is 50% on front two windows. Rear can be as dark as you want.
I hate film tint. Only coloured glass is good. Factory tinted glass
