  • This is the Sony PVM 8044Q Trinitron CRT Monitor manufactured in 1996.
It was packed poorly, but not as bad as the first CRT. The PVM also has color loss on some of the inputs that we need to repair.

Yikes. That poor CRT is completely destroyed. Makes me kinda angry that the owner didn't bother watching your video on how to properly package it. No FedEx would get it right so the blame is on the owner, really...

the black mark seen is not that it was run over. bits what know as a jamming mark. it when the box gets stuck and James on a belt. it sits and rubs against a rubber belt. but was not run over. it just got stuck a but. in the belt drive transit in processing

Oh, wow. That looked awful. That poor monitor. :(
They must have REALLY thrown that thing around during shipping, but obviously the point of the video is that if it was packed correctly, it would very likely have protected it from that damage.
Sheesh, that's one of the worst I've seen.
Makes me wonder about repro main boards for these monitors.

I’ve sold a few PVMs and had no trouble shipping them with tons of large and small bubble wrap and packing peanuts plus double heavy duty boxed. 14 inches 9 inches, you need to spend at least $50 on packing supplies to get it done right then ship it quick with priority mail.

More like "wow seller". Whenever I've shipped a CRT I assume it'll get thrown around and pack it accordingly. That tiny bit of cardboard & paper was never gonna protect it 😐

Nice! I noticed the soldering on that board didn't look good. It should be nice and smooth/shiny. At least in my high end audio world. It's also possible heating those pots moved around the internals enough to clean them.

Ugh bad packaging is a huge pet peeve of mine. People need to learn that paper isn't a suitable void fill for anything large or over a couple pounds.

Honestly, that packing on the 8044Q wasn't so bad, even if a bit light (I received a European 9041QM packed very similarly, tight single-walled box with some bubble wrap). I really feel sorry for the 1344 owner though. Thinking that I received a (non-working) 14L1 packed like absolute garbage but still arriving almost intact on the other hand... Looks like I got extremely lucky that time!

That PVM wasn't just poorly packaged, it was literally thrown into and/or out of the truck. I've seen videos, it's definitely a thing that happens. Even without any packaging, you wouldn't expect that kind of damage unless it was literally dropped from arms height or thrown.

I lost a NEC XM29 Monitor to shipping damage. Although looking back on it now it never had a chance with shipping. I should have just drove to pick it up. This was like 10 years ago.

Easy repair! Just 4 soldering points. I've got a BVM-8045QD that won't show picture on any input, but if I push "blue only" button, it'll show a yellow screen. Do you think the issue is similar to this unit? B board issue?

QUESTION: where can I find a list of fixable problems?
I have a 5" pvm which as far as I know uses the same color board as this one, it started showing only the red on the picture and ended un just showing a solid green and releasing some smoke out of the color board, so there is definitely something wrong in there

No colour faults were pretty common in domestic colour TV's and also video recorders. Usually, if it wasn't the trimmer pot itself (or a nearby rogue cap that had drifted in value), it would be the actual crystal that needed replacing. A quick check with a colour bar signal and an oscilloscope hooked up to a nearby test point usually confirmed as much..
