I grew up in Mountain. I have many family members buried in the cemetery and still have family there. My home was located in the trailer court by Chute Pond. I loved living there. My aunt and uncle owned the log cabin restaraunt on the left of the highway going towards Lakewood. Many in my family worked in the woods. I remember the little grocery store, Hase's bar, going to school at Moutain Elementary, Dr. Strebe's clinic, the fire tower. The school was closed due to asbestos, I think. I remember my teachers. Mrs. Reed in kindergarten, Mrs. Johnston in first and second grade and Miss Dobratz for third and fourth grade. I even remember when the gymnasium at the back of the building was added onto the school as well as the buildings in the back next to it. That bar was known as the Milyway bar and the thirsty buck was the bar and restaurant I spoke about earlier. Thanks for bringing me home.

I remember the thirsty buck saloon. My aunt named Vi Wold drank herself to death there In 1966. She is buried in the Mountain cemetery. I have many fond memories from Mountain but didn’t spend much time there because most aunts and uncles only went there to drink Cases of Adler Brau beer.

Thank you for reviewing this. A quick note that my great, great grandfather founded Mountain. His name is Thomas McAllen, and is buried in the local cemetery with many of the towns notable elders. McAllen, Bowman, Elbe, etc. Going further down down W, around the bend... Right before you cross the Oconto River is where the original homestead used to be. The buildings are now long gone, and is private property. But the clearing from where the home once stood and it's driveway are still clearly visible. Going even further down W. Turn left on to Wiffen, and follow that deeper in to countryside, follow that to Bowman Lane. At the end of the road on the left is where my grandpa grew up, and built his farm. The old of barn is long gone, but it's foundation remains. Inside the pole barn farthest from the road is where my dad built a home made bull pen from concrete and plumber's pipe when he was a young man. It's still as strong today as the day he built it!
Also, great shirt! I have the exact same shirt and wear it to work. 😂

I lived in Mountain from the very early 40''s through the mid 50's. Beautiful childhood and yes, we went to Mountain School. Many fond memories of my growing up there. No one had running water, we all had out houses. There was a town pump for water and a train that came through twice a week. 💞💕

The Schoolhouse Bar has an awesome corn roast every Summer. The bar next door to it, the name escapes me already, was The Hilltop Cafe just a few years ago. The interesting thing about the names Armstrong and Mountain, the official name of the town according to the county was still Armstrong until 1997, even though the postal designation has been Mountain for years. Cathedral Pines was always a favorite spot of mine growing up, I would ridge my bike there several times a year from over at Maple Heights Campground, I figure maybe 3 miles each way on the paved roads. Also, I'm glad you featured the Mountain Fire Tower, another favorite spot of mine up that way.

Thank you Sightseeing Sally. Another great video. I enjoyed your tour of Mountain, Wisconsin. At 74, I have been in a few "watering holes ", myself. I grew up in Prince George's County Maryland, just outside of Washington, D.C., and we had a "fire tower ", in our area, and since I belonged to our local Volunteer Fire Deptt., I was, from time to time, in the Fire Tower. So, your video, on Mountain, brought back some memories so, thank you again. Good health to you, Marty, Mocka, and the rest of your pets, as I have seen you, with more than one dog, in the car, in your videos.

In the 70's I lived outside of Mountain West of hwy 32 on Hwy 64 that little bridge was on the left of hwy 32 just before hwy 64. I went to the Mountain grade school, at that time it was up to the 8th grade then you went to Suring High.
There were 4 gas stations. Ken Bowman's Standard, a Gas for less, Mobil, and Loftis DX station.
We had 2 restront's one was called the Tailgate with small motel rooms.
There were 2 grocery stores Colman's and Bowman's then they both sold and became one shortly after that turning into a Arctic Cat snowmobile shop owned by Joe Baldwin.
There were 4 taverns with 2 of them having hotels rooms. Back then if you had "money" that was all of an ID you needed to drink. All you needed to do was sign your name to a notebook saying you were 18, we were all named Tim or Mary Jones then. LOL Times were different back then.
So many times in my life I wished I could live it all again but like they say you can't go back.
    Thanks for the memories Sally.
