  • Trying to recreate playing the way the Liverpool team of the Spice Boys era played in real life via PC gaming. I play each match on the "World Class" setting and play right through whatever the result- I do not restart both any match and season; going once through and with only one try per match. I do this not to be arrogant but because I have won the league too many times over the years, so my goal in this game is to try not to win the league- since the Spice Boys didn't in real life. Instead, the goal of this game for me, is to make sure I play the way the Spice Boys of Liverpool did in terms of style.
What do I mean? Well, watch the match and see for yourselves (for the two of you who are still reading- probably a MAD FIFA 99 fan like I am)...but the basic idea is that instead of playing for maximum winning by way of winning at all costs, I opt instead to make each player reflect their real life counterparts. In that sense, their action choices in the game are designed to imitate the way McManaman, Fowler, Redknapp and the Spice Boys played in real life, recreated in the old classic gameplay of FIFA 99.
So, McManaman tends to over-dribble, Redknapp hits the long passes, Barnes tends to make classy touches, McAteer works hard but misses passes (ok ok this one is down to my own lack of skill hahaha), and of course, the strikers like Owen take runs and low shots, while Fowler positions for a goal poach from every angle.
As you can see, I ain't the best FIFA player in the world, but, I'd like to think I am one of em! FIFA 99 is just one of the classics from childhood and it has a timeless non dated feel to it after all these years and the gameplay is just: SCORCHIO. There have been many FIFA games after it, but nothing quite like FIFA 98 and it.
