He couldn't see it from the driver's seat, but the problem from the get-go was the passenger rear tire dropping into a hole that was going to roll him. If he could see it from where we did, he probably would have understood he needed to back up and get that tire up on the edge, but instead, everything he did got the same low tire deeper and deeper into the hole. Spotters are annoying, unless they're with you and have worked with you before. Any time there's spectators, half the crowd is yelling turn left and floor it, half the crowd is saying turn right and don't spin, and the people that could actually make that obstacle are silent because they know how annoying it is to hear instructions from people that have never done what you're doing.

If you really know your vehicle you shouldn't ever need a spotter, walk the course before attempting and plan your line, no one knows your vehicle better than you, you are the one who worked on it for hours, the one who spent time in the drivers seat you know what it can and cant do better than anyone else even if it is just a guess.

The spotter you hear in the background didn't start helping until he realized he was in a bad position.
