- Greetings!
Today I am creating a Miniature Grandfather Clock!
It was constructed using 1/16” basswood.
Even though the watch that I am using doesn’t work, one could (and will) be obtained that would turn this into a fully functioning Clock.
Let me know what you think in the comments below.
Have a better day … As I always say!

This is the first time I have seen someone cut basswood on a cricut. I have heard it was possible but I have never seen it. This is a great build and I thoroughly enjoyed it! If you ever do consider making kits I highly suggest the laser cutter. I have cut wood on mine a few times and it does really well!
Thank you for your kind words and suggestions!
On the Cricut Maker, I don't use the Basswood setting that is built in to the Maker. I use the 4 layer Mat board setting instead. But I do use the knife blade attachment, which does a wonderful job. It also doesn't cut all the way through the board, which (as mentioned in the video) I prefer so I can finish the cut by hand.
I have thought about getting a laser cutter, but I have a few issues with doing so.
1. They are expensive.
2. They leave scorch marks where they cut.
3. The extra ventilation needed for them would be difficult where I would need to set it up.
The thin wood that I use (rarely thicker than 1/16") cuts just fine on the Cricut Maker. The board you saw in this video only took about 20 minutes to cut. Anything thicker than 1/16" I can cut on my scroll saw or my little table jigsaw I have. Perhaps if I were doing thicker boards and bigger pieces, or dollhouses, I would consider getting a laser cutter, or CNC router. I'm not dismissing them entirely ... just for now!
Thanks again! Have a better day!
SO love the creativity in your projects and that you just roll with the punches... or oopsies as you call them. Enjoy watching your thought process and changes through the build, too. And the camera really wasn't that bad, we could still clearly see what you were doing. ☺️ ~Chellie~
Thank you so much!
I appreciate the feedback!
I haven’t seen the video yet and I already know this will be and amazing build. Let’s begin.
Can't wait to read your thoughts!
I am amazed at your work and how you have the patience to work with the wood. I probably would just use paperboard to make everything lol
Thank you. I guess I am a purist at heart. I suppose if they ever make paper or polymer clay furniture in real life, I will have to give it a try! hehehe
Thank you! This gives me inspiration for some of the old timepieces I have that have been neglected for years.
Always glad to help!
Que hermoso trabajo, gracias por compartir su experiencia,Saludos desde México.
Muchas gracias. ¡Me alegro de que te haya gustado!
Wow oh wow! I love, love, LOVE this! A kit or even the template would be an awesome idea. I have now added a mini grandfather clock to my growing list of thing to attempt once the craft room is unburied. Great job 😍
Thank you! Glad you liked it!
This is awesome!! I love it!!!
Thank you!
As always a great project. I would personally be very proud to put that in my display cabinet with my other trinkets and treasures 👍👍
Glad you like it! Thank you!
It's beautiful!
Thank you!
Thought I’d let you know what I think, I think it’s fabulous well done.👍👍👍👍
Thank you! I appreciate that!
It´s gorgeous! :D 💜 I love it! PLEASE do a kit of this one Sir :)
Thank you!
I may, someday. The difficult (and costly) part is obtaining watches.
I may end up just building them and selling them instead of putting together a kit. We'll see.
Really great use for your Cricut Maker! A suggestion- there are miniature clock movements available for hobby purposes, very reasonably priced- probably less than a new Timex. Thanks for taking the time to make a very interesting video.
Thank you for the compliments and suggestion!
I thought about going to Goodwill or Salvation Army and looking there for working, used watches. But I appreciate the idea!
Would you ever consider doing a how to video on making a miniature billiards table? Something you’d see in the clue mansion
I appreciate the question, but I am no longer doing miniature work due to failing eyesight. I know that there are many videos out there that do show different techniques to accomplish that. KrackenMakeRuckus, I believe, did a good one.
Sorry I could not have been of more help.
I love that movie, by the way. One of my top ten favorites!
I’m very sorry to hear your eyesight is not well. You have amazing work and it’s a big loss to the miniature community.
How did you learn to do miniature work? Was there books?
Thank you! I truly appreciate that. I'm still going to remain active in the mini-community by doing tips and tricks, techniques, methods, etc. I'm just not making minis anymore.
I was self-taught. I had been doing woodwork and was to the point where I thought I might start doing furniture. But then my wife wanted a dollhouse as a new hobby, so I started by making her furniture for it.
I caught the mini"bug" and this channel was the result. I do have several books and furniture patterns that I have used as inspiration, along with Ara's channel at Bentley House Minis.
As always ... Have a better day!
What are your thoughts on laser cutters? I’ve been looking into them. I know they can be toxic and give off fumes. What kind of ventilation would you need to rig up for that?
@@JoshRock84, I have a small laser engraver, which didn't work very well.
Laser cutters have their place and can be very useful, especially for intricate work or where accuracy is extremely important.
Personally, I don't see myself ever getting one. They can be very expensive. I prefer to cut by hand. I also use a scroll saw for intricate work.
Hope that helped.
You might check with Ara over @BentleyHouseMinis who has a really nice one and you will get a different answer.
Have a better day!😊
Hi, Sean! Is the stain marker you're using one of those "furniture scratch repair" markers? Im trying to find one that's just a "stain marker" and it would seem only the ones for fixing scratches in full sized furniture exist.
Thanks for your help!
Actually, no. They are stain markers made by rustoleum. I found them at Hobby Lobby.
This clock is great! May I ask what sanding q tips are? Thanks
Thank you.
They are Q-tip (cotton applicator/cotton buds) shaped sanding "sticks" that I use for small, rounded areas. They work great, especially in tight areas that are hard to reach.
When will the template be available again? I can’t wait to build this beautiful clock!
I no longer have the pattern available due to my hard drive crashing that had that file on it. Sorry.
@@dolfinmagikproI am so sorry! Take care and have a better day!
Thank you. You too!
@ 2:24 the stain pens look really streaky, Hope it goes away.
Nice clock design; simple and traditional. I like it. Personally; I'd through the stain pens away they don't produce an even finish.. In the end it looks streaky, sorry to say. I really like the clock overall.
Thank you. That pen is actually meant for touching up furniture. It does look streaky, you're right. But off camera, I finished it better by adding extra coats, and a quick sand between, and it actually turned out nice looking.
The main issue is that it dries very quickly, especially with a fan blowing on my bench. It's alcohol based.
I love this,do you have a template that you would share please?
Thank you!
Not yet. I'm working on one, along with a procedure for it. Be sire to join my website email update list as I will post updates there!
Thank you for your interest.
dolfinmagikpro thank you 😊
Bummer,😐 no chime sound?
Keeping this one simple! 😀
