    I'm so over remakes! Does nobody have an original thought in their head in Hollywood??? I miss the 90s 🙄🤣

      Right!!! I would much rather see the classics remastered and released in theatres in IMAX or something lol And Kenya Barris is talking about remaking The Wiz!!! So brace yourself for that one 🤦🏽‍♀️

    Chile, someone said they thought this movie was gonna be a Nike Ad 💀💀. But I read Kenya Barris was on board and I’m like… yeah ✌🏾

      Lowkey, it was definitely giving Nike ad! 😂😂 It's a shame that Kenya Barris is now starting to be known for bad movies..smh

    I am tired of remakes. However, this wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be. I am honestly not a fan of the original.

      Thank you for sharing that you didn't think it was that bad. If you didn't like the original one, I can see how this one might be more enjoyable for you. They are very different in tone and this version feels more lighthearted than the original one.

    I only made it through the first 20 minutes and turned it off. When the scene in the weight room at the 20 minute mark began, I could tell right away that the movie didn’t have a serious tone based off how it was being shot. It felt like watching a school project, instead of a feature film. This wasn’t a remake in any capacity, so much so that I would bet that the script was called something else and the executives figured if they attached a familiar name/title that it would sell. The only true thing that they share is the basketball tournament. The reason the first film worked so well is because so much of it was focused on the actual title. Billy’s “lack” of athleticism represented the inferiority of “white” athleticism in comparison to people of color at the time. Well it’s 2023 and I’m definitely here to say that white men can most definitely jump. Billy and Sydney have more depth and there stakes were higher and way more believable. Let’s also not forget that they were played by two iconic actors in Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson. And a dope performance by Rosie Perez. I refuse to give Jack Harlow any acting credit here, not to be mean but you don’t get kudos for being sub par in a trash movie. Further more, to the point that u made about NBA players now getting involved in films is the same way I feel about rappers in films, comedy, sports, etc. Can Jack Harlow rap, sure. But that doesn’t mean that he can act. Can Lebron and Blake play basketball, absolutely. But that doesn’t mean they know a damn thing about making a movie. I’m all down for being an entrepreneur and not limiting yourself to any one thing, but these moments of people who are already established in a lane moving over to another just to do a half ass job are getting in the way of people who actually know what they are doing and put the work and time in to be in those moments. All in all, this movie was booty juice with a side of fresh ass. Peace ✌️.

      Depends i think it comes into context...for example sports people can be used well in a film if the film is about the sport they in like the harlem globetrotters who was in a film about themselves however their role in the film was limited to basketball and a few lines while Dorothy Dandridge and Bill Brown did most of the acting. If Lebron was smart he stick to movies doing that rather then remaking stuff.

      First of all calling this movie Booty Juice is hilarious because we watched Fear of Black Hat a couple weeks ago 😂😂 I agree with what you said though. I also think, again, they focused too much on trying to be funny and less on really developing the main characters and getting the audience invested in the story of these characters. Like, in the original Sydney wanted to get his family out of the bad neighborhood they were in and his wife knew he was hustling and didn't care as long as it got her out the hood. And Billy was trying to pay off his mob debt and just not be a f up, while Gloria was trying to get on Jeopardy. Even the women in the original one had motivation to support their men. This movie did none of that. Just a waste of time!

      Yea, it is getting out of hand! I don't know why Hollywood is struggling with originality and it's only going to get worse if they don't figure out this writer's strike.

    Girl i knew i wasn't watching this. The first movie was good, but this was not a good candidate for a remake. I've enjoyed some of the horror remakes, but people forget they can just write new content.

    Thanx for the review now i can avoid it. WMCJ was a product of its time coming off from the whole jordan vs bird and the NBA officially been dominated by our people so this film was a reaction to that as hollywoood usually does similar to Rocky being a reaction to the black dominance in boxing thanks to Ali. Doing it now and not understanding that like not understanding house party when they remade that is the first red flag.

    • @geminida1
      @geminida1 Před rokem +1

      So true a product of its time! Couldn’t have said it better. It’s one of those movies that just can’t really work now.

      @SistaGurlonFilms  Před rokem +1

      Yes!!! And I can remember back then having the John Stockstons of the league being praised for their technical skills and the whole point of the original one was also that all those technical skills meant nothing when playing street ball which was about skill but also very braggadocious and flashy. That same conversation is not really being had these days (at least to my limited knowledge because I'm not up on sports like that anymore).
