Moving from Canada to Philippines is no easy feat. But we did what we initially thought was impossible.
**UPDATE** We originally went to the Philippines back in May and we recently came back to Canada to attend to some important business. We thought it will take a few months but will be going back to a more simple living in the Philippines next month! Stay tuned!!

Ako citizen na kami sa Canada at pwede din ako maging PR ng European Union but finally i prefer living in Philippines. Why? Because once you reach your contentment living and working abroad, you will realized that still Philippines is more better. If you have 3 hectares land, you can convert it with self sustaining environment. Believe me you will feel better and no stress.

My 1st trip to the Philippines was Sept 2001. I went there 3 times for three wks each time in the span of 9 months. We were applying for a K-1 visa for my now wife. She got her visa and got to the US Aug 2002. Our daughter , Fararose, came along in Sept 2002. My wife was in the US when all of a sudden in 2009 I found myself laid off from a job of only 26 1/2 yrs. I went on unemployment working part time at Waltermart which got my the full 99 wks of unemployment . My 88 yr old Dad at the time was living with us. I had already talked to my wife and at age 57 I was ready to move to the Philippines. We moved on the 9th anniversary of my 1st trip here. Our daughter just finished her 2nd yr at UPLB. She never spoke any Tagalog at all. She excelled in all her schooling and in college made President's List of Scholars each semester. Mabuhay !~~!

and live the way I want to live.
    Simple life with enjoyment
and minimal stress. You’ve done the right thing.

I’m thinking about Heath Benefits and medical most specially it’s so important for us senior citizens to have that handy specially with my husband doing his INHome dialysis 3x a day not to mention his type 2 diabetic and his daily maintenance (medications) you see I’m not sure exactly what we can expect in the Philippines in regards to these situations!! Here in Vancouver Canada we’re pretty much taking care of .. Not to rub it in but we’re kinda’ spoiled here✌️🇨🇦

Coz they experience a pretty good life in Canada as they moved there during their younger years and for sure they already enjoyed what Canada has to offer and now they want to experience something new. Whereas to some other Filipinos, they don’t have that kind of privilege and experienced hardships that’s why a lot of people are dreaming to migrate in Canada to have a better life. If they grew up in the Philippines all their lives for sure it could be a different story. But wherever we choose to live, let’s enjoy our lives coz wherever we are is always a blessing 😊

Hi, my husband and I were chasing the American dream for 20 years. We had a good life in Chicago, but life was like a rat race. So much stress. We moved back to the Phils in 2013. Many were skeptical about our move. But until now we are okay. No more migraines, insomnia or back pains. My husband's BP is controlled now. We live in the province, but we have everything we need. We have more than enough food. The only bills we pay every month are electricity and wifi.
We still go visit the US almost every year, and I no longer crave for the real American way of living.
I agree with all of your reasons. You will be ok because you, guys, are emotionally ready for the move.

Good for you guys! I live in toronto and an RN for 16 years now, I wish I had the guts when I was your age, I left the philippines 18 years ago. I'm 52 now, everyday I have that realization that life is too short, and living in a country like canada, its like a repetition of everything, a routine. I always end up thinking , I am not serving my purpose in life, im not moving on. It is black and white, there's no quality of life. Although I'm a heathcare professional, I don't feel like it's enough. I feel empty and robotics doing things repetitively. And yeah.... that's what I'm feeling. I want my life to be meaningful, with purpose and substantial. So congrats to you two! You did a good Job following your heart! You are inspiring! You have inspired me big time!💕🙏

Hello Lyn, Emm here, I've been a nurse for 12 Years and I was in the same position as you. I too started asking that question, "what is my purpose" after years or doing the same things over and over in my 20's. We were fortunate enough to reach financial independence in our 30's to be able to do what we are doing. I know you are in the right Path because not a lot of people will even ask themselves that life changing question, but once asked it opens the mind to a lot of possibilities. Thank you for the comment!

This is very common to us Filipinix but in denial lang ang iba because of the healthcare system, OAS etc. But if nakaplano lang talaga earlier on, like how this couple did, kaya naman. They've been here when they were younger, not to mention na nag enjoy sa winter for xxx years. Hahaha. Tayo excited din sa una (kasi maganda talaga mag picture2) but eventually coming HOME still hits us. Iba pa rin ang may totoong beach, fresh seafoods, summer all year, good vibes. Anyways, in short, PLAN AHEAD tayo mga beshies para makamit natin goals din. Mapa abroad forever or uwi pinas for good. Peace y'all. Keep the good contents coming guys! Be an inspiration!

It's a lifestyle choice. A close friend was determined to retire in the Philippines because his work and government pensions would go further in the Philippines. Then his father became seriously ill and was hospitalized and passed away. After seeing first hand the multi million peso bill from the hospital he changed his mind. Plus it's a lot easier to travel to Europe from Canada. But to each his own.

Most of the people retire at the age of 60 literally, by then iba na ang energy level, malaki na mga anak and they will have their own lives.
We cannot take back time kaya para sa akin tama yang ginawa nyo.

Depende sa thoughts mo yan and decision. Di mo pwede sabihin sa tao na mali desisyon nya, isipin mo yung mga desisyon mo sa buhay.

Some Filipinos are taking advantage of Canada. When they have sufficient funds, they go back to the Philippines to have good life and when all funds have been used up they go back to Canada.

how do you consider that taking advantage if they work and they pay their taxes. It’s only people who are in social assistance or welfare from Govt, they dont work, they stay here for 6 months and then they go back to their home country. That’s taking advantage because they dont contribute to the tax system here in Canada, they dont work. Their only source of income is social welfare - those are the people that are taking advantage of benefits in Canada paid by tax payers.

I am a Canadian and my wife is originally from the Philippines. That is our game plan as well. For me the sooner the better. I’m tired of the Canadian rat race. We have property and a house in Antique province. Having residual income and elderly relatives here in Canada is our biggest worry. It’s super good to hear the experience of others with the same idea.

Most of the pinoys are dreaming to live in other country especially Canada. Majority are those who graduated here and working for years. Life in PI is difficult maraming kahig isang tuka. Hope your family specially the kid will adjust your life here. Anyway you have tons of monies to spend and will surely you will have comfortable life in pinas. Very few wants to live here after experiencing the abundant life in other country. I think the peoplle who wants to retire here are those who lived and worked most of their life in other country. They are seniors who have pensions and monies and propertiesto live comfortably in this country Philippines and Im one of them. Anyway since you are both Canadians you have the options to return if the situations are not favorable with you.
    Good Luck!!!

That's brave. Canada already has the best quality of life and Philippines is very far from it. There are also much less opportunities here especially in the provinces. Yes it is beautiful in terms of nature but when you get used to it, you will get tired of it as well and you will miss the life you have back in Canada. For you to be able to survive here, you must embrace not just the beauty but also the ugliness of the Philippines. You must learn to accept the positives and the negatives. Goodluck and Godbless to both of you.

There is thing that you are wrong. In the phippines, if you have money, the opportunities are endless. It is easy to start a business or do any entrepreneurial things. You don't need massive capital, paperwork is quite not as intensive as western world where insurance alone (third person liability, injury), location, environmental, occupational and health requirement, etc. Limited opportunities are only for people who have no means.

If you were born in the Philippines, a part of you will always long to go back. Philipines is indeed a great place. Just keep a healthy lifestyle, to avoid getting really sick. Coz when you get really sick, you could drain your life’s earnings. Philippines is heaven when you have enough wealth and income-earning assets, to enable you to live a comfortable life. If you don’t, then life could be really harsh in Philippines as compared to Canada. The pandemic has shown how difficult really is to be poor in a country like Philippines.

Imagine if both of you are working in the Middle East where work environment and climate is different than what Pinoys think of an ideal place to grow old, your decision would have been made much earlier.

I bet all the people in the comment section condemning your move havent experienced hardship living abroad. Its soul-sucking! Dito kami nakatira ang asawa ko sa UK and we have enough. Super mahal ng cost of living add mo pa ung taxes na manlulumo ka pag tanggap mo ng payslip. Even you earn a decent wage kakarampot padin matitira sayo. You need to work many hours to make a living or else you'll end up on the street. Yes free ang healtcare but its barely working, you cant even see a GP (doctor) pag may ininda ka. Many hours of queuing in a and e (emergency) as well. So FYI lang po hindi lang Pinas ang may prob sa healtcare, its a global thing! Congatulations on your move btw. :)
