  • Sir Cliff Richard joined Variety, the Children’s Charity, at a star-studded tribute event at the London Marriott Hotel on 11th July 2019 to honour his 60 years in show business. During a thrilling evening, which was hosted by television presenter Gaby Roslin, Sir Cliff performed some of his best-loved hits to a spellbound audience: ‘Devil Woman', We Don't Talk Anymore' and ‘Rise Up’. Backing vocals were provided by the IDMC Gospel Choir.
Sir Cliff was also joined on stage by a surprise line-up of old industry friends including Bruce Welch, guitarist of The Shadows; Brian Bennett, drummer of The Shadows; actress Una Stubbs; radio presenter Paul Gambacinni; television presenter and singer Gloria Hunniford; comedian Jasper Carrott and comedian Jimmy Tarbuck. One after another, they shared never-heard-before stories and personal reminiscences about Sir Cliff's extraordinary career.
A highlight of the evening was the moment when Malcolm Brenner, a Variety Trustee and Former Chief Barker, and Caroline Monk, Variety’s Celebrity Manager, inducted Sir Cliff as a Variety Ambassador, and thanked him for his ongoing support of the charity.
The event also marked Variety’s 70th anniversary - the charity was founded in the UK in 1949. www.variety.org.uk/
The sold-out event raised substantial funds to help improve the lives of children and young people throughout the UK.
Variety would like to thank Sir Cliff Richard and his team for their remarkable support over the years, and wish him many more wonderful years in his career.

Cliff Richards and The Shadows brings back great memories of my early appreciation for music. My brother in law opened up huge horizons for me, which made me appreciate all music and gave me an eclectic and great appreciation for all music, from the Ventures, Everly Bros. ,R&B, English Blues, Beatles, Marvin Gaye (Motown) and on and on. This was a time for great music from the mid 50"s through the late 70"s. Thank you for all the good memories!

When you think of the shocking list of rock star casualties of his era up to now - Janice Joplin, Hendrix, Morrison, more lately prince, Bowie. George Michael and the amazing Michael Jackson it is pretty amazing that cliff Richard was able to successfully not become another of its ‘victims’. Elton John came dangerously close to losing to his coke addiction

I remember when I was 19 I’m 43 now and I went to London to listen to Cliff, and it is the only time I heard my father shout out loud as Cliff came up through the stage, and it was the 40th year, I’m going to make from a distance after writing this, I did the millennium prayer for Christ as on my channel, and it came out great, so sad he stepped back because of his home raided by the police which didn’t show nothing, just a witch hunt, he never released a single into the charts after that, thank you Cliff for all you did for us, a legacy you’ve left for generations to come, Elvis though Cliff was his rival, God bless Cliff, thank you for the great records you left for us. God bless you in Jesus name.

Thank you for honoring him, he really deserved this. But what a shame he was not given a microphone that works. It was changed but the new one was not working either.
