Lightfast & Waterproof Calligraphy Ink Sweetbriar Rose Ferris Wheel Press

Ferris Wheel Press just released a new Professional Calligraphy Ink Line! I am not a calligrapher but I thought I would try it out as an acrylic ink in my abstract work. I love the color and it fits right in with my earthy tones. I reached out to Ferris Wheel Press and they confirmed that it is an acrylic ink so be sure the clean your brushes before they dry and I found that using a little alcohol on a shop towel removes it well from glass and metal :)
NOT FOR USE in fountain pens, rollerball pens, with feeder systems. Use with dip pens, brushes, and washable instruments only :)

Yeah I thought that too, most of my abstracts tend to call back to landscape, aerial views or topography. I love how when you use a fine spray the watercolor and ink crawl into those water veins, so lovely :)

Beautiful and functional bottle and cap opening. Lovely color, but it seems a little too thick, not rinsing off the nib with water. Would you considering using the Kakimori nib with this ink? Thanks for sharing!

I don't think I would use my Kakimori nib as I don't really know how to handle this ink properly - I have seen many creators/calligraphers using it with their glass and flex nibs effortlessly so I am guessing it is definitely user error on my part 😂 I will say though that it cleans up super easy with alcohol - when you replace the little silicone plug it can make a mess on the bottle (and surrounding area) but a little wipe of alcohol removes it all very cleanly.

@@MarcellHobbs if you are primarily going to use it with your artwork you could try artist acrylic ink first (if you have not already) It is a little cheaper and you can see if you like the effects before investing - that being said I have never seen these these colors in those inks, but you may be able to mix :)

@@MarcellHobbs I really like the Daler Rowney System 3 and FW acrylic inks, they have little eyedropper bottles which are handy for dropping into your work :)

Oh wow! I really like your abstract painting & you make me want to try out something similar with inks ☺️ How do you think that these calligraphy inks or fountain pen inks would pair with for example Derwent Inktense?

I think if you like working mixed-media it would go great with the Derwent Inktense! This FWP calligraphy ink is much like a thin acrylic gouache or thick acrylic ink, so you could try one of those mediums first (they are a more inexpensive place to start) if you are interested in how it may work for you. It is opaque and waterproof once dried but moveable in water when you are working with it.

haaa, I am not a calligrapher and this is a calligraphy ink so I am not sure if it is supposed to be like this or not 😂 I have definitely seen some beautiful writing with it so I am guessing it is formulated correctly, just not for me 🤓

@@jannahlyon I’m a comic artist and use dip pens regularly. Dip pens do need ink with a relatively high level of fluidity, otherwise, they “run out “ very quickly. The ink stuck to the nib instead of continuing to deposit to the paper. I’m not a calligrapher either. But as far as I know, western calligraphers pretty much use nibs as well? I don’t think anyone would write with a sumi brush, but it seems those ink are indeed compatible with brushes.
