One of my all-time favorites from 1975. Feel so sad about the poor horse. Got his FANTASTIC album, "Blue Sky Night Thunder". Full of fabulous songs - no filler.
Magical !! takes me back to my life as a 12yr old boy in Perth Australia when this song had a lot of airplay the intro and outro so well transitioned from piano to guitar :)
Mid-1970’s 3M played this timeless masterpiece w/o accompaniment at a Hillsborough Ave bar, Raleigh, NC. Mostly college audience was rude to him but he was professional and a virtuoso singer/guitarist. He earned my respect & admiration that night. Still has it!
I was a kid in the 70's, when this was played every day on AM radio. I remember this being a haunting/emotional song....and it still is. Murphy, Carol King, Simon/Garfunkel and James Taylor taught me to listen "deeply". Good stuff.....
That was what touched me the most too!!! That respect and pat on the back. That really got me. I’ve noticed that everyone who collaborates on this epic song (and I’ve watched countless versions) treats it - and MMM with the utmost respect. And rightfully so. Wildfire and MMM are national treasures!!!
A timeless, hauntingly brilliant masterpiece. Have loved this song from first listen as a kid in the 70s. And, wow, what a magnificently enduring artist. Bravo, MMM!!
I saw him in 1978 When I first came to America in Corpus Christi Texas I fell in love with his voice right away .... I still remember that Concert till today I just wish cane see him again one day.....(when the pandemic over🙏)🇮🇱💙🇮🇱
Just makes me wanna cry. Normally stay away from the country & western genre but heard this song in my childhood. The sentiment that struck me back then still resonates today. Michael still sounds magical. Great song
What a voice😎😎,supposedly he is in his 70s in this video.not allot of difference from him in the earlier days.im watching all the videos of him singing this song tonite.man this man got pipes.
This one always gets me. Reminds me of my dad taking me to the amusement park when I was a kid then stopping for a container of fried clams & fries on the way back. This song ALWAYS seemed to be playing on the ride home. I miss you dad.
Went to go see the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band at a little out of the way bar in New Mexico in 1983, and after the break, they brought out a surprise guest... their good friend Michael Murphy! Stood 5 feet away from him while he sang and played Wildfire. What a thrill! I'll never forget it...
I knew his wife Karen when they lived in SW Wisconsin, one of Michael's homesteads at that time. Home of Wild West Days, founder Dr Jeffrey Menn in our 4,500 town. I was better friends with Karen's ex Troy R. Ran into Karen at our Wal-Mart store after Michael performed on David Letterman. She said Letterman requested Wildfire. Karen said Michael then drove to NY and that Paul played the piano piece superbly.
@@deb4735 Yes, Paul Shaffer played the piano part superbly but I still think the best is either Dave Hoffer's embellished live version or Jaq Murphy's original album version: Paul Shaffer: czcams.com/video/hVoDQhVg8e8/video.html Dave Hoffer: czcams.com/video/gl4Y4FWWkn0/video.html Jac Murphy: czcams.com/video/Pc3OnSQc48s/video.html Although in this Music City Roots version where the young guitarist plays the piano lead-in and lead-out very capably on the guitar, it was Absolute Genius whoever decided to use a clean, clear, crisp piano on the original version! It really set that song apart.
yes...still a classic. looove the piano& wow ...haunting tune as well. what ever the instrument, really sets this song off. he's Luke fine wine, gets better w/age,as does his voice.noticed ;wedding band (earlier) was he married at one time?then as ,watched him (older)it was gone..just saying. also, just heard his; cowboy Cadillac.wow .that's sooo different, from the norm, but still sexy voice to boot!!!! rock on Michael.....
Wow, he is 71 and sounded really great! I wonder if the guy on the right (as you're watching the video) is his son....He clearly seemed proud of him especially at the end of the song.
Rob Watkins I don't think that's his son. I think he modeled swimsuits and bikinis for n2n swimear. he looks exactly like that model. either way he's pretty good on the guitar.
One of the best song ever written
I'm, admittedly, a pretty hard guy. Don't tell anyone, but this song gets me every single time.
He was less than a month from his 71st birthday when he performed this. That voice hasn't aged a day in the last 40 years.
I still cry when I hear this. It's so sad. I love it though!
40 years on and the man still has it !
And how!
This song
has been one of my top songs I cherish. Thank You for writing and singing. God Bless you Michael Murphy.
One of the most beautiful songs ever written. He is a genius and he sounds fantastic!
What can one say? A perfect song and performance that still brings tears.
One of the most amazing songs..beautiful wonderful memories !!
Murphey has spent 40 years perfecting this song... I think he does it here.
He sounds great at 71...!!!
What a blessing his music is to us all.
One of my all-time favorites from 1975. Feel so sad about the poor horse. Got his FANTASTIC album, "Blue Sky Night Thunder". Full of fabulous songs - no filler.
From 1975 to 7/22/2019 still playing this beautiful song thanks Michael I remember my first love. 44 years ago.

Magical !! takes me back to my life as a 12yr old boy in Perth Australia when this song had a lot of airplay the intro and outro so well transitioned from piano to guitar :)

Damn... wow 3M is so good man. I am amazed at his great voice. Good for you Michael and good for us to have you. His lead guitarist is fabulous too.
Love that guitarist 🎸

Chris Nutley me too
Me three.
I know Im gonna take a hit for this, but Jim Croce, Gordon Lightfoot, and John Denver were as good as it gets back then too.
First heard this song when I was 14 and still love it to this day !!
Me too!
MMM still plays this with so much passion! Love watching GR play too!
Simply love this timeless song 👌 Brings back great feelings when we were young & free! Best from 🇩🇪
that was tremendous! Wildfire is a hard song to sing without breaking and MMM can still do it at 70. I used to do it in my 20's but cant any longer.
A time when we had REAL music
Loved this song all my life. Beautiful version. Yeah!
Love that Coat !!
Nice ! Timeless song . THANKS FOR SHARING .
Beautiful song...great voice.. Best to you Michael
Just ABSOLUTELY beautiful. Just love the way MMM pats him on the shoulder telling him ...good job. I mean that kid could be his grandson.
That was what touched me the most too!!! That respect and pat on the back. That really got me.

One of those timeless songs that drag you in to listen.
You know it's actually placeless, too.
Michael still has that amazing voice. True talent never leaves the best.
I rank it up there in the top ten for beauty
Just makes me wanna cry. Normally stay away from the country & western genre but heard this song in my childhood. The sentiment that struck me back then still resonates today. Michael still sounds magical. Great song
MMM does not sing country & western music.. Rather, its just "western"... Big diff there.
For the love of a wild pony. Love him. Love this song. Love my wild pony.
Love this song!!❤
Such an awesome song. Thanks Michael
Michael Martin Murphey still Has It

Great song I always loved it since I was a little kid growing up
Like many here, I enjoy the timeless beauty, and magic of this song. I agree that he has retained a voice to match the magic!

WOW
Wow. Just WOW❤️
Real nice!!! Nice touch to transfer the piano part to a guitar,
Sing it ,Murph'.
I love wild fire ....
Can you imagine how many times that man has sang that song
Wow, he is 71 and sounded really great! I wonder if the guy on the right (as you're watching the video) is his son....He clearly seemed proud of him especially at the end of the song.
Rob Watkins I don't think that's his son. I think he modeled swimsuits and bikinis for n2n swimear. he looks exactly like that model. either way he's pretty good on the guitar.
and he is pretty too
The one on the far left is his son, I believe. He's playing the small guitar/uke or whatever that is.
aka a mandolin.
Music City Roots is almost like ACL in the sense that everytime I google somebody they seem to have been on the show.
I have live performance of this song from 1970.
my awakening
Horse Hymn Hall of Fame, first ballot!
He will be in Bishop Ca. Memorial day weekend for Mule days

I heard this was a truss song? If anyone knows.....do tell? Love this song!
I think he gets better with age
the walk-off...
Chicks love horses
“Gonna leave sod bustin’ behind”
Is the young man playing guitar his grandson?
In this video, the young man to his right must be another son. Does anyone know?
I mean HIS left.
I don’t get the outfit thing.

What? This song is about a pony? Well, that changes everything.
Better with a piano, but still good
Sadly, this is the first time I have seen him struggle to stay in pitch or reach notes but then again, he is 71.
Great song but the drummer looks bored!
He probably is too young to appreciate when good music was good music....seriously.
TarynChats you can tell all that from him by looking at him?
Back up singers are useless in this, sorry to say. MMM being God status as usual top entertainer.
Sings it better than when he was younger….absolutely tremendous.
