My border collie always circles my brother and strangers and bite there legs I play with them Everyday, and that stopped him from chewing Everything. But I can't seem to stop him from nipping at. Encircling people He goes right into, I'm gonna. Into I'm gonna round these people up. And here pretty soon, I'm gonna move in. With a roommate. I don't want him doing that to him. Or His kids

I'm subscribed to the perfect puppy course which is awesome!! Having said that this webinar is much better than the puppy biting seminar on the course, much more detail and with a nice balance of theory and instruction. Maybe consider switching it out in future. I think the body language part is super useful to add in to the verbal correction...which can occasionally fall on deaf ears!
Great video. We have a 6 month old border collie and we walk him about 10 kilometers, not including playtime. We´ve seen first hand that exercise and calm body language goes a LONG way in reducing puppy biting.
Loving these videos. They've really helped me tweak my approach successfully with our new puppy and she is respecting my leadership. I'm going to watch this video again with our 6 year old boy and help him implement these approaches also since the playful nipping is primarily happening with him right now. This way we can "nip it" in the bud. 😜 Super helpful. Thank you. 🙏☺️
My pup is 16 weeks now and completely stopped biting a few weeks ago, I teached her a command when it started to hurt and if she was persistent I would just give her a toy or buffalo skin bone to chew on. Now at 16 weeks she doesnt bite or grabs stuff to chew on. She is a quick learner though a nova scotia duck tolling retriever/bordercollie mix.
Thank you for the reminder that checking the behavior (body language and verbal "Ah") and redirect must be 100% of the time. My first bc was a year old when we got her R.I.P. Spring lived 14 yrs, second was found when he was about 4 months he's 5 yrs now, got a 7 wk old girl companion for him a week ago. My first really young bc WOW! A few times a day she becomes a little black and white piranha/shark pup, redirect helps and if she really wants me she has to calm and we'll have a little training session. Thanks for reinforcing good training methods.

For teething puppies, put a few ice cubes in a sock, tie the sock closed, then wet it. The cold will numb his gums, and the ice inside the sock will hold his interest.
I love the fact that it's the same process for any problematic behavior, makes it easier to remember and also as someone who is a victim to a bored bc puppy remember to put away anything you think or not think that your puppy might reach, they're craftier than you think when they tumbles down the stairs

Thanks for this video! I regularly pet sit my friends Border Collie puppy, she is 11 months old, I walked her 2 times a day in addition to a lot of fetch and running at the park. She trusts me enough to let her loose in the park and comes back when I ask her to, still I can’t get used to the bitting. I used to own a lab and a Boston Terrier but they didn’t used to bite as much as Border Collie. I’m just trying to learn so that I can deal with this puppy since this breed is new to me.

I hear you about the exercise with general biting, however when my 10 mo BC is overstimulated (can happen easily despite management) or overtired (which seems to happen quite quickly with little warning, like five minutes too much and she looses her shit) she will bite my shoes and ankles and redirect biting as a way to self sooth (as far as I can tell). The only thing that seems to work is stay still and wait for her to calm down. Any attempt to correct other than ignoring it and not moving forward or paying her attention at all escalates her behaviour.
Things like crossing the road are a trigger, as well as when a few things happen at once such as another dog, a baby crying and a car honking in quick succession.
I do attempt to redirect with toys, she doesn't give a damn about treats, it's just a pain in the ass. She's just always on the alert, some weeks are easier than others but it is a challenge.
Hey! You're not alone. This is really normal and will get better if you keep putting in the effort. Overstimulation isn't something you can correct, but is instead something you should work towards increasing. She has a tolerance for 3 things, work up to 4 things, etc. It won't be linear either, it might go 3, 4, 5, 3, 2, 5, etc - and that's okay too.
Collies are fine tuned to be hyperaware of a herd of sheep and their handler at distance. This means their surroundings absorb them and they can be extremely noise sensitive. So this is very normal for this breed, they want to check everything out, it tests our patience because we think "yeah, that's a x it's the same as the x you sniffed / stared at / chewed / barked at 2 minutes ago".
Something that has worked for me is to work on calm settles in new environments, really drill some commands like "look at me" and "place your paws on this" and "weave between my legs" - all helping with focus. And then I've found that a little game of tug frequently actually helps decrease overstimulation, the game is something we play at home and in the garden, it's fun then and reassures of a safe space. For me, that's translated to outside as well.

mine is 12 weeks old, i have some same issues, she'll just become naughty and i notice she's due for a nap. i kept track from the beginning, natural wake and sleep times, for her sleep rhythm, she can be awake for 1-1.5 hr, but not 1.5 hrs in the afternoon, her cup is too full of stimulas by afternoon. she's horrible with the leash, unless i'm handing out treats every other step...and can't get her nose off the ground, tries to eat leaves, sticks, rocks...i'm exhausted. i let her have too much of the yard, on leash, me following her around, while i was thinking i was being her leader...and realized how entitled i was making her with me following her around. ended that, and she doesn't like that it ended
@@Kate98755 I just got an 11 week old border collie mix, and what you're describing sounds exactly like my guy, down to the details.
A lot of sense talked here which I've been doing most of the pointers for little while now and it has helped heaps. My 5 month old has never gone to or bitten anyone else apart from us the owners but has decreased massively but don't get me wrong it's tiring and exhausting but all worth it in the end.
I had a cocker that was crazy with biting as a pup. Bit of training and now she is so much better, she will never bite as an adult, she will mouth to play but no issues biting.
Trying this starting today. Hope it works.

My border collie pupy bites my feet I have sat down with him with out shoes and its starting to work just telling him no and puting my hand infront of him when I see him marching to my feet. I also give him a toy Before he bites its starting to work a little bet better
Yes! thank you! I will work on all 3 steps. One question though, what if your puppy doesn't stop when you stand up with a verbal correction? Is there a physical correction at that point?
Our collie is 13 mths and just started to growl and bite complete jekyll and hyde can be playing and loving then in the next minute can turn nasty and bite
We have this as well with our 5 month old. One minute he is playing and happy the next he turns and bites. It's very frustrating and we are getting help with a dog behaviourist.

@@crisdov6386 not yet we did get a dog behavorist through bark busters over priced and never sorted out the problem we have with her lots of emails but only came out 3 times and begrudged that .We now are going to another trainer who spent 2 hrs with us and interacted with the dog who seemed to take to her but still wary of putting a harness on her although she got it over her head but says we should take it in steps . We then went on holiday so now have to book a few sessions with her the outlook seems good
my border collie mix does this when she’s really tired, i keep a journal, after 2 hrs post nap she will need another….when she was younger it was 1hr awake and back to a nap…so i would suggest to track your dogs sleep habits, i tell my husband when they’re playing she has 10 minutes left and it’s so spot on, she collapses into her nap. This is a working breed, she has to be taught to take a nap break, her baps are very close to the same length every time. i do tell her no bite and make the sound will is making, but i then without making it a punishment i say it’s nap time and praise her when she wakes good nap….so she hears the word nap before and after….such smart dogs, she’s 10 mos, i can’t believe how smart she is
@@Kate98755 border collie puppy here.. same issue. She has so much energy that it’s hard to tell she’s tired. So it’s a balance of working her and making sure she sleeps enough. But again it’s so hard to tell because she’s always on the ready
These videos are so great and the puppy course is brilliant. We are trying to implement this. However we are still having issues with our 4 month old aggressively biting. He plays and is happy and well behaved then he seems to turn. We love him so much and he is such a good boy lots of the time but the biting is getting really hard to deal with. Any advice would be gratefully welcome.
Ahahaha I’m glad I watched this. I listened to the trainer I’m with on scaling back the exercise. Puppy started biting and not napping as much.
Back to my hour long morning walks! If he’s tired I’ll carry him the rest of the way. But we need to get tired! Specially on weekends were my work shifts are a bit longer and he needs to stay in a crate for awhile.
I have just subscribed and watched your video "How To Stop A BORDER COLLIE BITING." I have two 18-month-old border collie littermates--a boy and a girl. They have started biting at some delivery people while we are away at work. How would I adapt my training since they are no longer puppies? They have 9 acres to wander during the day, and I would hate to lock them up while we are at work. I am guessing we will need to increase structured exercises and re-establish ourselves as their leaders. I am wondering if we need to implement more of the "Canine Boot Camp" strategies? Any other suggestions?
Does any of this change if the dog is older, not a puppy (2-3 yrs) ? And is a rescue?
I have a collie cross spaniel. He is a rescue pup he is 8 months old he follows me every where. He uses his mouth alot he chews everything and he nips and play bites and jumps up with excitement or if he is unsure.

Hi Will, thank you for the vital information to train dogs. Your food method totally works! 😂❤ But my border collie pup starts to nip my legs again when he wants me to play with him before bed. Making the loud sound doesn’t work anymore because my pup isn’t afraid of me at all now, I guess. He’s got so excited today while playing with me and suddenly did bite my fingers! He didn’t drop it for quite some time, now my gloves have got a big hole. It was unusual, and I was shocked! It might be because I wore my shades for the first time this year for the bright sunshine this afternoon here in late March of Toronto so he couldn’t see my eyes? What do I do? 😢 Please help!
If I let my puppy nibble on my fingers when we’re playing is that okay? Anytime she goes too hard I say “hey!” And she will stop. As long as she’s listening when it’s too hard is that okay?
This Border Collie we have now (found sitting at the end of our driveway) seems to have had NO discipline or training what-so-ever. Vet said she is one year old. She is now spayed, shots & microchipped. We will have a certified trainer come to the house in a few days. He already gave us some suggestions & are working on those for now. Judi

My Border Collie puppy is the first dog I've ever had who aggressively bites hard when playing.
She responds now to "No bite", and she doesn't bite so hard when playing now.
If she still wants to play and burn energy, she'll run and get a toy for us to play with.
Now to watch your video and see if I could've done better in training.

I saved a Chow Chow from being put down. One more day & he would be gone. Anyhow, Baby (I named him) was about 3 yrs. old - black fluffy Chow Chow. Got him home - went well until maybe a week later he showed some aggression. He was going to bite me - I put my face right in front of his face & I told him "You will not bite me". He stared back at me then got relaxed & never attempted to show any aggression toward me (or anyone else) ever again. He then got hugs & cuddles & we were best friends ever since. (I guess I was lucky because he could have ripped my face off.) Such a good boy & I miss him still after a few decades. Judi
We have a 4 month old border collie, and we have two goats that are around the same age, she keeps biting the goats gonads and she draws blood, I’m afraid that the goats will get a infection.What can we do to stop her from doing this, and when the grandkids are here and playing she nips at their legs.. What is exactly meant by exercise? Taking them out, training them to do tricks, or?
It was easy to teach my BC not to bite ME. But he gets very excited with my friends and tends to make a grab for their hand or clothes. I don't get visitors every day, so opportunities for correction are few.. He's almost 3 now, and I-ve never managed to resolve this problem, which makes quite a difference to my social life.
Border collie is living in a house with its owners with no space to run around, not walking as much as possible. We have just moved into the house temporarily as guests, the dog acts strangely around our 1 year old watches the baby a lot When I am pushing him along in the pram the dog try’s to nip at my hands and ankles and get in the way , I’m not sure if the baby is safe around him. My border collie gets a tantrum if she wants to play or get attention. it's so weird. instead of running away the thing stalks you 24/7. Then if she isn't happy about not getting enough play she's throws a tantrum like a kid. You need time share with the dog, that's what you need. It will learn all of the dog sports and all of the tricks. It's like a gifted and talented child. They're super sensitive. you hurt their feelings if you tell them to go away. I have to trick her pretending that i'm going to go outside and play and then close the door like a kid. They teach you everything that you're doing when training a dog. you're lying to the dog. when you tell the dog to sit it thinks it's going to get a treat or play every time. I can also tell when she is thinking that i'm lying. She knows when I'm a crook. If your short changing her all of the time she stops believing. The no treat changes their behavior as fast as the treat.
So I have a 3 month old puppy's her names Bella and she's really nice but she likes to bite and I have only have had her for 3 days and the problem is my sister doesn't discipline her and just laughs so what should I do to not confuse her
Hi, any tips on how to train a border collie to stay on garden paths and stay off the beds? We're walking/running the rows with my 12 week old in order to chase off native foul. I'm correcting by picking her up and telling her "no" when she goes onto the bed, then placing her back on the path and repeat the word "path."

We are on the walk, after play time in park and my BC is in random moments going for my feet. Bitting really hard and nothing is working for him. He will leave bruises on my legs. I'm absolutely on my wits end right now.

The one thing Im confused about is, that I have a 9 week old border collie, when we play, she nibbles and bites my hand, but in a playful manner - so not sore at all. Is that type of biting acceptable, or should I not be letting her do it at all? Please any feedback would be amazing

Just got my border collie puppy she’s 3 months old she’s so sweet but when I’m trying to do anything around the house she chases me and jumps at my heels and bites my feet and legs and I try so hard to get on to her and stop this behavior but she seems to take it as a challenge or a game.

@@ryaandnice I got in contact with a dog trainer who basically gave me some great tips and advice on how to be patient with your pup, they’re not trying to be aggressive it’s how they communicate and they’re teething! This video is super helpful but also my trainer said crate training is really important for pups for their anxiety getting used to a new home and helping to reinforce them to bite something else like bones she recommended bone marrow!
@@redeemedandblessed777 We're doing better the past two days. We are crate training, doing less wrestle type time that gets her spun up, and being more consistent but kind with our 'no'. These are interesting dogs. We had two aussies before this so I thought she'd be similar but they really are a different breed. Glad you are doing better with your pup.
@@ryaandnice yes! I totally empathize with you because I had been raised around German shepherds and yeah they’re totally different! Different mannerisms completely. I’m in love with my wild crazy border collie though it’s all about the journey!
My border collie puppy doesn't seem to give a sh*t about what I like or don't like. I'm a lifetime successful aussie owner. But first puppy rescue. Man. Worried we made a tough commitment here. Sticking it out though.

My 11 week old border collie can play fetch outside for about an hour and still be super hyper when coming back home and yes, she'll still bite my pants and hands wanting to play. I've been doing the uh-uh method and that only works for half a second and she'll be back biting again. When is it going to end? 🤔
