The illustrator Naoko Takeuchi was heavily inspired by 90’s runway designers such as Chanel, Versace, Dior etc. which is why she created so many iconic outfits in sailor moon 😍
Why do I feel like older animes had much more interesting and personalised character outfits. I feel like, apart from the main costume, most of the recent anime characters have such mediocre and ordinary "everyday/casual" clothes.
I also get super excited when mangas have trendy outfits 🤩
i think the outfits the characters wore were considered casual too at the time but nowadays its trendy because of the comeback of 90s fashion!
put some respect on sailor moon 🤧 naoko takeuchi, manga writer who is behind sailor moon, was really into fashion/high fashion too so a lot of the outfits in the series were based on actual designers, such as dior!
Random manga recommendation, but the manga Stop!! Hibari-kun! has such good 80s fashion. The mangaka went on to illustrate for fashion companies.

I’d love to see favourite animated goth girl outfits for Halloween! (Or any time of year tbh) Or any lookbooks for the less conventional 90s/2000s video games or animated tv shows. There’s always so much inspo from Yu-Gi-Oh! honestly. (Especially Yami Yugi and Kaiba)

i never watched sailor moon as a kid (though these outfits make me want to now!) because they didn't show it on tv in south africa in the 2000s (not on free tv anyway lol) BUT i did love watching mew mew power/tokyo mew mew. i think it's time for a re-watch because i barely remember anything from the show...

Kate, I love it as usual! But I want to make a comment: I see you worry too much about having the exact shade of color or exact sillouete, but as you are taking inspiration from anime characters and not cosplaying them, is great to see how you struggle to find an alternative and it makes the outfit even more interesting, so don't worry too much about it!

Sailor Mars and Sailor Venus are both equally my favorite characters now! But back when I was a kid, Sailor Moon was my favorite and Sailor Venus was in second place.
My tastes have changed with Ouran too. Kyouya and Nekozawa used to be my favorites. But now after rewatching it later, Tamaki and Kyouya are both equally my favorite characters.

Sailor moon was the first anime I ever watched and I fell in love with it. It was also important to helping me develop my femininity because I always saw myself as a Tom boy who didn’t like girls things but I watched this and wanted to be a girly like them.

I didn't get to watch Sailor Moon as a kid because it got taken off air here because of the transformation scenes - A- but these looks are all so good! I really loved the first Rei look, reminds me a lot of cyber style in the early-mid 90s, and the Dark Lady look I would totally wear all the time! The mesh top is so gorgeous
