WHAT'S UP MY PEOPLE! Back with another video but this time I wanted to compare photos taken with some more affordable lens options. On the Canon R system, there is the 35mm f/1.8 STM, which is an entry level lens priced around $500. I'm pairing it against an older option from Sigma, the 35mm f/1.4 Art Lens, which is the main 35mm lens I use even today. The point of this video is to show you all, you don't need the most expensive gear to get the job done. Thank you all so much for watching!! REMEMBER TO LIKE, COMMENT, AND SUBSCRIBE! I appreciate you! Take care. - MD

Great content, great presentation.
I like that didn't just gave it up for the photo comparisons. It's a good exercice!
Wow this was a fun one! Thank you for posting! subscribed!
Simple, clear and concise dude! So good 👌
Great comparison. By the end of your video I learned to tell which was which but would not have known before watching.
you help me to decide bro.. Thanks for this video❤️
I’m not sure how I came across this video, but I watched the entire thing and I loved how informative it was.
Love your explanation!
What an amazing video you killed this bro The image quality of both lenses are beautiful
Great comparison, great quality of video!!!
LOVE the setup Bruv! I liked before I even watched the video.
The quality in this video is dope! The pics you took were 🔥🔥🔥. Good info!
Maaaan I appreciate that so much DRUZU! I hope the info helps!
Terrific video, thank you. I picked the sigma each time, it’s got that special something, although the rf produced some incredible shots as well. I’ve been on the fence so seeing this video has been a help. Little to do with camera lenses but your voice is very enjoyable to listen to.
Cant wait for the nifty fifty video! I purchased that lens and finally got the correct adapter for it as well. excited to try it out before these storms hit the south!
I've been using the new RF Nifty Fifty and it's very impressive!
Just found your channel, love it! Subscribed!
I just bought my first camara ever, a Canon R50 to start learning.
Bought the RF 35mm 1.8 and the zoom lens RF 18-150mm and I feel that I did right with my budget!
🙌🏽
as for someone who suffers with gas this really grounded me. thanks for reminding me how good my gear already is and i can focus on something else other than the gear. thank you and great photos
Thank you for watching!! And yes you will be shocked at what our cameras are capable of when we put the right gear TOGETHER. The right body and lens combo is important. But it's just as important to keep honing into crafting our skills.
Thanks for this great video.
...respect from Nashville Tennessee! This was HIGHLY inspiring! Used to do this a lot. Ain't been since one time during lockdown... Love your content!
Yoooo thank you so much!!! I appreciate the constant support here and on IG!!
I’m from Nashville Tennessee as well 🔥🔥💪🏾
Great video! Have you done the 50mm comparison video yet? I just got the 50mm 1.8 RF and I'm really blown away by it, it just seems too good to want more, especially at almost 14x the price, but I'm eager to see a practical comparison!
Awesome video bro! What lens did you use to film yourself on mic btw?
Nice bro! Video definitely helps
Liked the "blind" comparison between the shots from the 2 lenses. Without thinking about technical details I picked the image I liked best out of each pair and every time it was the Sigma Art lens.
I chose the opposite tbh. To me, the Canon looked the best. :)
Thank you !! I just got my canon r6ii and was about to buy the old 35 1.4 ef but i think im going for the rf 35 1.8
Great Video. Apart from the first picture, I got all of them correct. The main difference is that the canon lens kept the full subject in focus.
Out of all the videos I watched on this lens, this was the one that sold me on it.
Thanks for the video. I have the Canon 35mm RF. It's very sharp and light.
Great video!
Amazing! Video! I want the 35mm lens, but I keep reading about images stabilization on the sigma. I’m a beginner. I was wondering if you had trouble with image stabilization? If you did, do you think it’s something that will be hard for a beginner?
The bokeh balls on the canon were the shape of a cats eye and the sigma bokeh balls were fairly round so it was pretty easy to figure out which lens took each image....and just figure out which out of focus background generally looked the best, it was always the sigma...its pretty clear which lens is better
Sigma kills it in a lot of their lenses! Sometimes it’s just okay but they hit, THEY HIT! 🔥🔥
Keep killing it, the quality of the videos are really underrated for the channel size. Easy 50-100k or more for this channel with consistency like this. With that said, I been battling which lens is next, do I want the 85 or 35, maybe even the 70-200. But I think if I go 35, the RF is solid enough to save the $300 difference. Great comparison.
Which was your primary lens and which one did you end up buying next?
@@GabrielBiff I have the 35 macro and 85 viltrox for cost and like both!
Great video, came across this when I wondered if to get a sigma used or new canon 35mm, and there you helped me out decide :) Super-beautiful pictures as well
And what did you decide?
Thank you!! Honestly it’s a tough choice! They are so close!
Hello. And what did you end up buying?
I’m starting out with photography but I got the eos rp and have the 50mm 1.8 but I would like to get a 35mm too in the future this really helps !
Man, I love this formula of the review - instead of overly focusing on technicalties, you took 2 really good lenses, put them side by side and asked people - Can you see the difference? That's exactly what I needed. I work for Leica and am responsible for color calibration firmware, so I'd say my eyes are pretty trained, and honestly, in half the cases I couldn't tell which lenses are which. I want to go to Hong Kong for the first time in my life next year and was looking for just one lenses to take there with me. After watching this video, the Canon ones win for the trip, because the difference is negligible, only they're so much lighter!
Sub from Fiji. Great vid and info.
Got it all correct. I have Sigma Art 35mm 1.4. and I can tell it by basing on bokeh and DOF on the pictures.
The two lenses are good , but each time I choose one of the 2 photos of your comparisons as being the best , I always choose the one from Canon . I have the 85 1.4 Art Sigma, I love it , even its weighs the weight of a broken down truck. So, for my next R6, I will choose a Canon Lens even it is more expensive . Thank you for your video .
'Preciate the video man. I'm purchasing the R6 with a 85mm Sigma, and I'm just trying to make sure that is the combo I want or just stick with the RF. I think I'm good now. Also, are you located in Nashville, or were you just visiting? Printers Alley has all types of potential.
Good stuff brotha
Yoooooo thank you soooo much broooooo!!!
I love your color grading, pls make tutorial or offer your lut to be purchased
I have a color grading video on the channel already! But also LUTS and presets are in the works!
I missed only one (the one before the last picture) But yeahhh I could see the difference 😉 I use both lenses, so I kinda know 😅😅 ah ahh.. Dope video Mario 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 Can’t wait for your next comparison 👊🏾
Yooooo thank you bro!!! Haha you got the eye bro! Man thank you so much for the constant constant CONSTANT support!!
@@mariodevon_ you the man 🔥🔥🔥
I have the Yongnuo 50 and 35. They can shoot amazing images. They might not be perfect but they are still great starters and they can get you through a pinch
I like both of them but the only flaw that was a dealbreaker for me is the very inaccurate autofocus. I have not recommended those lenses because most beginners are not the best at manual focus. They are capable though!
I know that most of photographers think that 35mm 1.4 looks better than 1.8 but for me it's not crucial to have that extra blur at the background and I think I like the colors on the canon lens better
I agree. Half way through the video I started noticing the difference in color and realised that Sigma sense made her skin more yellow, but canon stayed true color.
Just bought my first camera ever, a Canon R50 and bought the RF 35mm, the RF 85mm and the Zoom Lens 18-150mm.
I’m learning but I feel I have more than enough for the next years to come.
🙌🏽
I bought the R6 after watching your video on the R5 and R6. I absolutely love the content I've been able to create with it. I went from a Rebel T6 to the R6 full frame. I also bought the RF 35mm, and RF 50mm. My lens is gonna be the 70-200
Ooooooh that's a big upgrade my friend!! I hope you're enjoying the R6 so far!!
Crazy! I just got my R6 two months ago, I had the Rebel T6i before. Now I’m getting the RF 35mm and I just bought the 70-200 and I have EF 50mm as well, is crazy to know that someone else is on the same situation like I am 😂
im so happy for you
Hey guys can you please tell me if the RF35 is perfect for a wide angle with great sharpness portraits/ group photos ?
@@Mya-Elba nope the 24mm might be better for a wider photo while still having the macro and F1.8
btw it's 100$ more than the 35mm (so it's about 499)
Got all three shots correct . The bokeh is the telling story. The RF 35 1.8 STM Macro doesn't resolve round OOF lights as well as the Sigma. Not that's it's bad but not that its great.
I shoot on an EOS R and I do love that Canon 35mm... the 85mm RF is a great lens for Macro too, without the crazy price tag of the RF L series glass. Found your channel because I'm considering upgrading to the R6 and using the R as my second body and found your R6 one year review. I do more photo than video work though, so I'm really trying to decide if the 20.1 (like you said, the .1 is important... LOL) is going to be enough for me. Great channel, great content, I love your vibe!
Hi, I'm just considering buying a Canon R with priority for taking pictures of everything, how satisfied are you with it, please?
MrRaduso I love it. I’ve got a couple L series EF lenses that work great with the adapter and I’ve bought the 35 and 85mm RF lenses which are solid too. I’ve been shooting full time with it professionally for about two years and I don’t really have any complaints on the photo side.
Amazing 🔥😍
Thank you so much!! 🔥
Looking at the first set of photos I really thought the one with the consistent, round bokeh circles would be the Canon and I was wrong! Consistently across these photos I found the bokeh quality on both the Sigma and Tamron to have a more attractive look than the canon which had football shaped bokeh on the outer areas of the images.
Got all of them right immediately. The Sigma photos just pop out a lot more with tack sharp details and that professional look. Could be achieved for the Canon lense, too, with some lightroom magic but it's nice to get it right away.
Even with my old EF lenses with my 5DMK III, I would always get sharper images with my Sigma lenses over even the Canon L lenses. Sometimes Sigma can be TOO sharp on the newer cameras though haha
Great video. It would be more helpful if we can see the sigma at 1.4 vs canon at 1.8 difference. I do have canon Rf 35 but not sure if it is worth buying a new sigma 1.4
At 1.4 the blur is better but the lens is less sharp because of this.
So except the last picture I got all of them right. Your videos and pictures are awesome. Keep up the good work, man! You’ve earned a new follower.
RF 35 1.8 the colours is more dark... the art Even its put in F1.8 its a little bit brighter the skin and the photos... Native lens always be the best i think its because the glass and the coating... for contrast... but now days Aperture is more important than sharpness...
Hey Mario, loved the video. I was curious, how does the sigma perform in video with that adapter on the r6, particularly wide open. Thanks !
I use them preferably wide open at f1.4. Still very sharp and reliable!
@@mariodevon_ sweet! Now I’m conflicted and might wait, I’ve used sigma and Rimini lenses when I shot Sony and they were incredible. Love your channel man!
Bro, I was very very surprised I couldn't guess some photos between the two lenses. Could you make a link with the original RAWs to properly pixel peep? I would appreciate that. Thanks!
Jesus.... I only guessed 1 right and I HAVE the Canon lens. VERY inspirational! I'm about to hit the streets again with mine!
have you done a comparison with the tamron 35mm ef 1.4 ?
Great comparison and excellency model per composition. I have the Canon 35mm rf . The difference is more pronounced with the Canon 85 rf f2 and the Sigma art 85mm but the 35mm in very close. I shoot with an R6 so the difference seems smaller. Canon Rf mount is not a great place the live for reasonably priced lens
Do you have issues with the focus slipping on the R6 with the Sigma 35mm?
Just bought the sigma 55-200 for about 100$ used. Wanted a telephoto lens and compared to a new or used canon lens it was a steal and it creates amazing photos
Oh that is a STEAL!! I have an old Sigma macro lens that’s still pretty sharp!
I think the RF is abit flatter in color, it would be nice to see a comparison between like the 50mm ones 1
2 vs 1.4
I think you've just convinced me to stick with my Sigma Art. :)
It's been 2 years since this video, and I'm still using them haha
good morning mario how you're doing i really like your video and you take some amazing pictures. well i have my canon 80d and i have the nifty 50mm 1.8 and i like it. everybody telling me to go to full frame but the qiestion is do i need a full frame camera? i;m not a photographer i just do this for fun and i'm pretty good at it lol. but i want the sigma 24mm 1.4 but the 35mm looks great as well. i want a few lens to carry in my camera bookbag i want the 24-70 from tamron G2 the 24mm 1.4 from sigma the 18-35 from sigma and the 70-200 from sigma and i'm straight so what you think of my selection? i want to buy the 90d and a good flash to keep on my camera at all times i'm not buying all of them at the same time but in due time i want all of them. the flash is the godox 860 ii so help me out
even at budget price...its still too expensive for me lmao...im just here cause i like your videos 😆
You can create great photos with just about any decent lense and camera if you know how to use your settings and are creative!
but it's much easier if you have better lense and camera thou
espically if you want to record videos and you are a youtuber not a pro
This is exactly how a comparing lens video should be made, with quizzes in every photo. Great job man.
They seem to perform very similar, moreover it's not excluded that the sigma need to be adjusted for back or front focus at the lower aperture with the usb docker. Did you do such work for the Canon EOS R?
Front- / backfocus isn't an issue on mirrorless anymore. It used to be a problem due to how phase AF of DSLR cameras works, this does not affect DPAF.
This show of full open aperture or steping down for same level? if wide open aperture, that images have minor improvement to ART lens (also price is close to RF lens).
at 2.50 I spoted the difference immediately, knowing that you are filming your screen + youtube compression + small photos, so irl the difference is probably big. Is there an rf equivalent of this sigma ?
Hi nice video.. Greetings from Jakarta. How about this Sigma 35mm vs Tamron SP 35mm F1.4? Many YT reviewers prefer the Tamron lens. May I know your views, pls.
I’ve got the sigma 35 and love it. The big differentiated here was the bokeh quality and bokeh balls. The canon bokeh balls were more ellipse shaped and sigma was more round. I just bought a R6 and will adapt the sigma on. But, it’s tempting to buy the canon for video if I choose to do hybrid coverage.
Good afternoon. What is your opinion on using the Sigma ART 35mm with the Canon R6? Are there any nuances? Do you have difficulty focusing? Is it better to take a used Sigma ART or a new Canon RF?
@@stefan_es I haven’t had any issues using the sigma with the adapter. I would say the only downside is the weight and length of the lens with the adapter compared to the RF 35.
I have the Sigma (from my mkiv) but now that I have the RP I’m debating the RF 35. I actually guessed right in all of these because something I’ve noticed in my sigma that bothers me personally I that the edges of a subject are not as sharp even when not at 1.4. (Like feet or hands are sometimes blurry) I noticed in your photos the canon kept the sharpness throughout the shot and the colors look great…not to mention it’s much smaller and lighter. So I might be getting that lens next.
I think the RP has a different autofocus than the R. The 5DIV has the superior sensor and autofocus motor. Do you get the same sharpness issue from the 5D or did you see this happen with the RP?
@@mariodevon_ yeah it’s actually on the 5div where I’ve always noticed since I only just recently got the RP. I did end up getting the 35 RF lens and it’s been great! (And also lighter and smaller for carrying around 😅)
@@AllieOnPointeWhat do you think. for RP is it better to take Sigma ART or still Canon RF? Opinions were widely divided. Some say that the colors on the Sigma are better and that it is, in principle, built better. Others say the Canon is better because it's lighter and more compact. how much does the difference between 1.4 vs 1.8 affect? And what should you buy for commercial filming?
Damn dope;
Very nice video~~
its quite easy to tell which is which.. especially at 4:10. what makes it easy for me, the left photo is a tad soft but much more out of focus starting at the chest area where the canon, she is tac sharp her whole body
after watching more of the video its not even close. both are great lens, all pics were absolute fire, but there are tale tale signs. specifically with color rendering. again still great either way
Even though you were at f/1.8 for both, the bokeh looks a lot better on the Sigma @2.31. The Canon has the “cat eye” look and the Sigma is actual bokeh balls. Might just be splitting hairs here though. I see a Sigma on sale for basically the same price as the Canon, but IS (I shoot a lot of video), not having to use the adapter (I’m on an EOS R) and dealing with that Sigma dock makes me lean towards the Canon even though I like the Sigma image better.
I've been shooting with a Sigma 50mm 1.4 Art for the last two months and I love it. I was able to pick out the Sigma between the two in most of the photos you provided and it honestly backs up my love for what Sigma does with their lenses. I shot with a 35mm RF for about a week before I got the Sigma and wound up taking it back. It's not a bad lens, just didn't do what I wanted.
Love the point you're driving though. You don't have to have the sharpest lenses in the game to produce great photos and 35mm RF 1.8 is a solid first lens choice.
Do you think it’s worth considering buying a used Sigma 35mm ART 1.4? Will it have a better image? The price is equal to the new RF 35mm 1.8. So I wondered if it was worth using it for work and photo shoots?
@@stefan_es honestly, it's dependent on the shape the lens is in. If the 35mm Sigma is in good condition and the price is right, I'd say it's a solid choice however, it really comes down to preference.
I know everyone is looking for an "absolute" answer, but it comes down to the photographer/videographer testing both out and deciding which feels right and delivers the results they're looking for.
For me, after using both in a store, I prefer the Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens. I haven't used either out in the field, but I know the feel from the 50mm and it blew my nifty fifty out of the water in terms of sharpness. I personally love the quality images I get using Sigma glass more than the more affordable Canon native glass. However, I wouldn't turn down a 35mm RF 1.8 because it is still a great lens and makes for a better travel lens due to it's lighter weight.
Either way, no matter what you choose, I don't think you can go wrong.
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Picked up the rf for 2something off Canon refurb. Amazing value.
These newer f1.8 lenses are such good purchases! I’m loving it
Can I get the same effect and sharpens with a sigma 30 mm 1.4
That sigma just has a special pop to the image
My Sigma 85mm still pops on my Sony cameras 🤯
Anyone else experiencing that their Sigma Art 35 1.4 most of the times misses focus or add motion blur due to bad compability with image stabilization on their R5 or any other RF camera? Late to the party and commenting on a 2 year old CZcams clip. Anyway, thanks for a great video Mario!
I own a 6II, but I haven't bought the Sigma yet. Here in Brazil, Sigma is the same price as RF. I will buy the Sigma. If this problem appears, I disable the camera's IS. Just go to the menu and disable it. Its Sigma at f1.4 has a cinematic personality. Remembering that the R5 has 45 megapixels, making these details more visible.
@@michelecintramika8482What can you say after purchasing Sigma Art? Is it worth using it with RF cameras?
If you shoot hybrid, go for sigma. You'll face focus issues on low light with rf35 canon
Have a nice day. I want to shoot Cinematic video for Eos R6, but I need another lens. I'm planning to buy Sigma Art 35. Will it work for me? I give my thanks
I did not fail 1 image - called the sigma out every time. Those who own it or use it frequently knows it has certain qualities that comes through. Glass is not just glass.
I can actually see a bit yellow cast in the pictures captured by the Sigma. i prefer the canon over the sigma..
You can tell which one is the sigma just by the depth of field in each picture. But nice video!!
Actually all of the photos are set at the same aperture. The bokeh has different character. But the apertures are both set at f/1.8
Hello I just got the eos r and I’m looking for a lens I have a sigma 18-35 mm lens but it’s a crop lens so if I use it it will lose quality, if I get a sigma 35 mm full frame lens will it lose quality with the adapter? Or should I get the cannon 35 for the best quality
Late answer but the adapter does not affect quality since it does not cotain any glass elements and the electronics contacts are more or less passthrough. If anything they will perform better due to the technical advances of the newer camera bodies (DPAF II, IBIS). The benefit of the canon is that is lighter, more compact and the STM AF is less noisy while filming. Other than that both should work alright.
What about the Tameron 35 f1.8 Canon R10 ?
Great video, but shooting both at 1.8 isn't an even playing field, it's hamstringing the wider lens! I wanted to see if I'd miss the Sigma by moving to the Canon, and the most obvious question mark is would I miss the extra bokeh from the wider aperture. Significantly reduced the utility of the comparison.
That’s the point of the comparison. The Sigma is obviously better. It’s an older lens but it’s built with superior components. It’s very comparable to the 35mm L lens and even Sony’s 35mm G Master. The point of this video is to show early shooters that although the 35mm RF isn’t quite as good as the Sigma, it’s still packs a nice punch for what it is.
@@mariodevon_ It definitely does, it's a superb package. I just wish I could have seen the compromises if makes too. Thanks for the video.
Sigma had noticably better contrast and colors, the parking garage was the only one i didnt notice the rest popped right out which is which. for a few huundred bucks more sigma all day (If you already have the adapter)
Budget-friendly camera gear is nothing new. That’s actually the bulk of the market. Pros are traditionally conservative and reluctant to adopt new gear for fear of upsetting proven workflows, so they represent a relatively small segment of the market-but they are important in that they provide visibility for brands at sporting and news events. For this reason, manufacturers launch systems with a functional set of those budget options in place alongside a pricier, higher-spec set for professionals. There was, virtually from the start of the EOS system, an EF 35mm f/2.
Was this an adapted Sigma or an RF Sigma?
I absolutely love my Sigma 50 and 85 on my R6, but I have not been loving the 35 Sigma on my R6. On my Mark IV it was my favorites. I have read in lots of groups I'm in that many people have not been liking the sigma 35 on the mirrorless so I'm wondering if it's just something to do with the mm. Overall, I love the sigma lenses for my specific editing
I love the old Sigma primes!! I love the new 85mm but I would say the new Sony lenses definitely show improvements!
my 35mm was bought new for my r6, came with defective autofocus and when it focused correctly the sharpness just wasnt there, doenst even compare to my art 50mm
Let us know if the focus on the 50mm f1.8 is faster and locks-in to a perfect focus better then the 35mm f1.8. I was considering getting the 35mm but some reports say the focusing is slower and perhaps some missed shots. Is this true. Not all reviews claim this. I suspect the 50mm however is faster. The 85mm is slower to focus :(
Thank you for your comment! As an owner of both lenses, the 35mm 1.8 gets the job done but it’s slower because of the STM motor similar to the Nifty Fifty. The Sigma lens is definitely faster. No question
@@mariodevon_ Thanks for the reply!!! Seems like there is more positive reviews about the 35mm than negative, so I may get the 35mm some day. If focus speed is like the 50mm, it is good enough.
Question - If you shoot wide open at an f1.4 aperture in bright daylight... the shutter speed hits the 1/8000 limit very easily! (clips, can't go any higher) with a Canon R6 or a Sony a7iv Electronic shutter limits also 1/8000. Do you use a ND filter to get around this issue? thanks
With my Fujifilm X-T3 in MS + ME mode, it auto switches when needing above 1/8000 to ES mode up to 1/32,000 - thus never had this issue before!.
On my Canon R6 if I choose iso 50 L (from 100) to help, this just blows out the highlights images look yuk!!!. I don't want to just raise the aperture to say f2.8 to stop this happening - Canon and Sony need faster Electronic shutter speeds... maybe a firmware fix?
Great question. You’re shooting in some seriously bright sunlight. I personally have never needed anything faster than 1/8000. But yes, the ND filter is your best bet. Some cameras only stop down to 1/4000 shutter, and ND is necessary. Good thing for photos, you can shoot RAW, so you can compensate for any color shift from the ND. If you’re willing to splurge, look up the Nisi True Color ND filters. Minimal color shift. Hope this helps!
In R6II in electronics it goes up to 1/16,000. And on the Fujifilm X-H2 it goes up to 1/180,000. 😱
A fair comparison would be giving both lenses to someone that is clueless about photography and editing.
You ma boy can do bangers with 18-55mm and still will look dope
Especially if it is only going to be posted on Instagram….. they compress the shots so there isn’t even a need for like a 45MP camera if you are only shooting IG.
you can easily see the differences in the color of the pictures
I want to know can I buy the 24mm 1.4 and the 35mm 1.4 all from sigma so can you help me out? I can buy both of them right or I just need 1 of them
I say do what you can for now you only know your budget. If it was me I would start off with the 24 mm 1.4 but if you can afford to buy both of them at the same time. I say go for it. @chiefbubba2581
I had 💯 right answers based on background/ bokeh qualities of lenses. RF had less “washed” background. 🤴
does sigma art comes with auto focus problem
