This is probably the best video documenting the various trails at Mt High. Props! Great skiing too.

i wish my skiing ability was close to yours. I have maybe 60% of your ability but im not very confident in stopping on a dime. I was at Mt High last night, the snow felt packed and icy, and i found it difficult to avoid colliding with those in front of me (although i didnt crash into anyone). Braking is something i really have to work on, i start to panic when i feel like im going too fast and that is what keeps me from attempting higher difficulty slopes. I wipe out once in a blue moon, but i can barely manage the intermediate runs, my poor knees lol...any tips on braking or knee strength?
Also thanks for this video. Being able to watch in first-person gives me a much better idea that its normal to be at these speeds and that the higher runs are much flatter than they look from ground level. Im definitely going to be re-watching this from time to time.

Thanks for the compliment, though I definitely have a lot of weaknesses in my skiing as well that I'm always working on.
Don't measure how good you are based purely on how fast you're going because anyone can just point and shoot.
Main focus should be on developing clean carving technique and general handling and direction changing, the speed comes from confidence in your ability to do those things. May or may not seem like it, but I'm pretty cautious and conservative with my decision making when going fast around people.
Just to respond to your comments:
      1. If you're trying to go fast, always know how to read others firstly. Never take any risks that depend on what you think others should do, only do it if you think it's physically impossible for them to collide with you because you can really seriously hurt not only yourself but others as well going fast.
      2. Take first couple runs easy so you're familiar with the snow conditions and how braking will feel and that way you know how early you'll have to brake when you read a situation where you're not sure if you'll be able to pass safely.
      3. Your knees (joints) shouldn't hurt if your boots are in order and you're using proper technique. If you're talking about the muscle, then yeah just skiing more should help that (exercises like squats etc ofc help). Technique changes might help relieve stress on muscles as well (check out videos on ski carving).

Vertigo is double black.. but it’s groomed?

Is it that steep to be considered a double black? Any idea what the pitch angle is?

Think some of mt high maps consider it double black, but I wouldn't. Not as steep as say Cornice Bowl at mammoth, which is single black on their maps.

@@SuperTastik definitely agree there. Mt high is my home mountain and I just got back from mammoth. Cornice is definitely steeper and longer than vertigo. I feel like they call it a double to say they have one. Although, Olympic bowl at east resort does feel like a double to me
