Thanks for posting this fantastic interview with my friend GM Walter Browne! I live in the Bay Area and Walter was a constant presence at many of our local tournaments. He was a great chess player and lived life at maximum speed & intensity! He is missed all over the chess world ... but especially here in the Bay Area. Rest in peace Mr Six-Time!
RIP Walter Browne, now you'll be playing with all of your favorite Grandmasters including Paul Morphy, and all of the others throughout history.
I cry when I watch this. RIP. True gentleman.
Yasser Seirawan made this a great video.
Walter Browne is a treasure! I just ordered his book and am looking forward to reading it. Thanks for posting.
Walter knew how to live life to it's fullest! His book is a great read. A world class poker and backgammon player too. Amazing man.
He played dodgeball...this man is my hero. RIP Walt
Rest in peace. I remember Walter very well from a German chess-TV series. I liked him a lot.
Hi, could you give the name of the show? I am learning German and I hope I can understand a little if some episodes are on CZcams. Thanks.

Hi, show was called 'Schach der Großmeister'.
Wonderful interview! Thanks!
What an amazing video!! I am unhappy to have not landed here much earlier.
What an incredible interview.
wonderful talk ... rip GM Browne
FANTASTIC!
I had the honor of having a cup of coffee with Walter once. He was really nice. I was in the Navy and in uniform at a tournament (under 1600) and he invited me to share his table when none were available.
wow - what a gr8 presentation! A lovely chat in a relaxed surrounding. Hosted wonderfully and charmingly by Yasser - finishing on a great reminiscence on Bobby ... :-} {Mentioned also by Lucas Andersen in his Life and Chess series}
I enjoyed this as much as... Bertnard Russell interview or such. Fascinating character... which transpired in his games, as is often the case. Yasser did a real solid to chess history in this one.
Thanks to Yasser for giving us a taste of Walter's chess days. How about a book on Walter's 60 memorable games?
Check out his book The Stress of Chess and it's Infinite finesse. His favorite 101 games.
@@Crazeyfor67 Thanks!
yasser is flaunting the bling in this video
may he rest in peace
RIP...
I started attending NYU in the fall of 1966. Walter Browne was a fixture in the 4th floor game room in Loeb Student Center where he played poker with students from the Business School. The management was always against gambling, and the players were always finding ways to circumvent the rules including using matchsticks for chips andand then finally writing down the bets instead of using chips. The poker games were finally banned from the game room entirely. Walter at the time, had a youthful "cock of the walk" arrogant aditude and his heavy Brooklyn-Central Queens accent bespoke anything but chess mastery. He was easy to initially underestimate. I was a beginning player and played one game with him where he finally won in a king and pawn ending. I also have a story about playing with Paul Magriel in another student lounge at NYU where he was a graduate student in Mathematics
RIP
RIP Walter :-((
Browne was a character when he was young. I remember him on the stage with a tall can of beer in front of him, offering some to his opponent. His speech sounds slurred as if he had a stroke.
Subtitulos por favor, subtitules pleace, I m no´t know english
Six years later. Don't see no Spanish subtitles.
Yep. Subtitles sure would be nice. 😂
Hope Mr.Browne will rest in peace in the hands of the Almighty God and get play chess with Angels and stuff.
...and stuff.
He won’t since God is nothing but a fictional character along the lines of Harry Potter, Garfield and Donald Duck

Seirawan loves to hear himself talk.
Yes he does!
Maybe, but so does everyone else. So everybody wins.
I like hearing him talk. In fact, as long as he's sharing historical chess stories I hope he talks as much as possible.
English is not my mother language and I am astonished: I understand every word spoken by Yasser Seirawan and NONE uttered by Walter Browne. Why?
Because he's dealing with throat cancer during this video.
He obviously can't close his palate seal, which greatly impedes his articulation. That has nothing to do with his throat. But perhaps he had cancer there too.
