You need to add that many versions of the myth state that his mother, Eos, was Memnon's chief mourner and that the Dawn goddess herself descended to the battlefield to cradle and cry over her son. Eos preceded the Sun god on his daily ride. However, every morning after the death of her son Memnon, she cried tears--the dew drops as the sun rises are her eternal tribute to her son, the African king(Virgil has this version of the story).
And Memnon was always depicted as a Black man. Aethiopia means land of the burnt faces in ancient Greek. The ancient Greeks described both the Aethiopians and Egypytians as Black people in both myths and historical writings like Herodotus.

Most people hear of the trojan war from the Iliad. The Iliad only tells the story from the ninth year of the war with Agamemnon having angered Apollo causing Apollo to fire arrows at the Greeks day and night. The Iliad then ends with Hector's death.
I have a book called " gods and heroes of ancient Greece " that tells the story from the very beginning. Even tells of Agamemnon sacrificing his daughter to ensure a safe voyage or victory. ( My memory is a little hazy ). In the first battle when the Greeks reach troy, they fight on the beach and Achilles faces a demigod son of Poseidon who has skin as hard as iron. Achilles can't penetrate the man's skin so when they clash a final time Achilles gets the other demigod on his back and plants his knees on the guy's throat suffocating him. The book also goes beyond Hector's death and funeral and tells about the Amazonian reinforcements that arrive and are defeated, Then Memon and his Ethiopian reinforcements that show up and are also eventually defeated. Memnon kills a son of old king Nestor, Nestor sees it happen and approaches Memnon to avenge his son. Memnon explains that from a distance he thought Nestor was a younger man, and he won't fight the old man, so Achilles and Memnon fight in the most epic battle in the story.
After that the Greeks sack Troy. If I remember correctly Achilles son throws Hector's baby off the wall of the city. But my buddy told me his college professor had a version where the baby was given the Drusilla treatment before being thrown from the wall. The book also tells about Agamemnon being killed in the bath when he returned home and also tells about Agamemnon's son, if I remember correctly, killing Achilles son in a duel claiming Hector's wife for himself. Agamemnon's son also avenged his father's murder. ( This may have been two different characters, possibly two different sons, as I said my memory is a little hazy )
The Iliad is great, but to get the full story of the trojan war you have to read other sources. The movie TROY is also mostly based on the iliad which is why there is no mention of the Amazons or Ethiopians.

The greatest warriors don't fight in wars. It's based on this reality that those who are epic warriors are made from very early on, by their surroundings, most notably by the people around them. They're coddled and are spoon fed. So. If you fight and you're surrounded by your best warriors and bodyguards, who serve up easy kills for their champion, you build up this mental power and confidence. Plus. You always have the best armor and weapon. Those are great warriors, like Memnon and Achilles. The greatest warriors are always the spiritual masters, who are reviled from early on and who travel and find skill, when they need it. They have 'luck' like no one else. And they learn by 'visions' and insights.

I see a lot of misinformation about Memnon and the Greeks concepts of ancient Aethiopia, etc in the comments. the legend of Memnon is not some new woke propaganda. There is a long ancient tradition of considering Memnon an African king. This is mentioned in numerous sources in ancient Greek and Roman writings. The Greeks and Romans considered the Egyptians and Ethiopians to be related and to be Black Africans. Homer mentions Memnon in the Illiad and says the Greek gods were visiting with the Aeithiopians. Later, Hesoid, Herodotus, Strabo, Manetho, etc would refer to Aethiopia being all of Africa south of Egypt and that the peoples there were Black--burnt faces. Even Aristotle said this(in a slur however).
There are many surviving ancient artworks like pottery showing Memnon as a Black figure. An African Memnon was such an accepted ancient legend that when the Romans made their excursions to Egypt and reached southern Egypt in the Aswan dam area, they found two ancient giant statues of one of the pharaohs and the Romans renamed them the Colossi of Memnon. You can go there and visit them to this day at Luxor and you can see the Roman graffiti at their bases saying Memnon, the son of the Dawn! Please google and read about the Colossi at Luxor and Memnon myth and ancient Aethiopia for yourself.

@@siddharthtripathi1818I have a couple of reasons. Achilles' entire body, besides one heel, was invulnerable to physical damage.
The god's who were on the Tojan's side knew Hector would lose his fight with Achilles in embarrassing fashion despite his skills at war, so they compelled him to try and run away and when that failed, they tried to heavily tip the battle in his favour. Achilles was given back his spear by one of the god's and nothing more.
Memnon was able to hang with Achilles, because he was also a demi-god, however, there is no mention in the actual text of Achilles recieving help to defeat him. It says Memnon drew first blood, but Achilles won by stabbing him through the heart.

because the death of Achilles could've very likely ended up tipping the scale in the trojans favor, and the gods were determined to see troy fall, the trojans also had some gods on their sides, but most including Athena and Heira wanted to see the city fall, Achilles was a key factor in achieving victory so he received aid. doesn't mean they had a personal grudge against Memnon, and due to his achievements and the facts that he had divine origins, of course the gods were saddened by his death.
