    Definitely do the video where you run them out DI into something like Parallax or Darkglass Ultra. While the Kontakt engine is quite flexible, the internal processing is quite a few generations removed from the quality possible with the newer machine-learning models. I generally advocate people process our basses externally whenever possible - but when in a pinch, we provide the bundled tones.
    I would also suggest the force string and additional key switches to really get the most realism out of the instruments. The legato and slides in particular can really work wonders.

    Thanks everyone for watching!! If anyone wants a video where I tweak the midi of each one individually for added realism, along with putting them on DI and reamping/processing for the best tone I can get from each one, I’d be happy to do that as well! It would just take me some time to get to.

    from what i understand, Nolly once said that his bass recording philosophy is to get very close to that of MIDI performance as possible, which is maybe why GGD bass library isn't sounding as realistic as Submission products unless you explicitly program the MIDI to be more realistic, kinda makes sense because it's GGD's first foray into bass library and Submission had been in the game for quite a while (i think EuroBass I was released in 2018 or something like that?).

      I had a fiend of a friend of a firend who once met the 2nd cousin's uncle of the guy who met Nolly's technician who said that GGD paid him well for his time.

    Another point about Submission Audio basses, they sound great outside of a metal or rock context. I've used Umansky bass and Eurobass on hip-hop and electronic stuff, too. The Nolly library seems more like a precise tool for modern metal and less a general purpose electric bass.

    Yess to making a video on how you work with midi, also any bass midi packs you have run into. You have alot of other stuff going on there as well guitar and chanting. It would be nice to hear your opinion on those. Thanks for the video. You helped me take one of the ones I was going to purchase off my list. Also I own the session bass Prime bass. It has patterns as well but...

    Finally someone comparing these! Awesome vid man.
    I got a bit unlucky. I had Djinn 1 and just bought Umansky a week before Djinn 2 dropped. Oh well. Still a great library

      Can’t hurt to have Umansky too, it’s been my go-to for a while!!! It’s simple but gets the job done. And DI’d into a good amp sim and it’s a monster.

  • @XGracelessTarnishedX
    @XGracelessTarnishedX Před 9 měsíci +1

    Thanks for this video! I appreciate that you compared the built in sounds instead of external processing.
    They’re all quite good! I use the GGD P5 drum library. It’s not surprising that the Nolly Bass Library plays the best with it out of the box. P5 bass tends to sound good with P5 drums. 😜
    But I got good results with all of these libraries. They’re all impressive! Umanskybass is my all around favorite, but the Nolly Bass Library fits my context well too(arguably the best).
    As much as people mention the lack of features, it sits in the mix well because of how consistent it is. It’s also EQ’ed and voiced very well.
    I’ve heard many mixers claim that if any one element of the mix should be nearly robotic in consistency, it should be the bass guitar. That consistency seems to be what they were going for.

    • @alrecks619
      @alrecks619 Před 9 měsíci

      most contemporary mixes tend to have the bass element to be very consistent (with the kick doing the thump work) so there is that.

    I have a Darkglass Microtubes X7 pedal running into an Ampeg SVT-6 pro out an Ampeg PF-410hlf that sounds monstrous. I may just get djinnbass 2 and sell it all bc I don’t play out anymore …. I mean, holy shit. The tone, accuracy and customization. I was about to buy Nolly’s bc I trust his ear for tone and engineering but… bro I have to get ahold of djinnbass 2. I’m absolutely blown away. Cost me 2500 bucks to get that tone irl…

    To my ear, the Nolly Bass seems to blend better with the guitar. The others sound kinda boomy and may require a bit of EQ and level adjustment, maybe some compression? Out of the box, Nolly Bass sounds best to me.

    • @codexstudios
      @codexstudios Před měsícem

      The built-in tones are different, Umansky is finger picked ONLY as well as having some unique finger style articulations. Djinnbass is picked or fingerstyle. Umansky has an extra upper string. Djinnbass has palm mutes. Umansky has fret hand mutes.

    the thing that frustrates me the most about Nolly Bass Library is that almost every note is out of tune. maybe it's their way of making it sound more realistic, but I feel like it should be one of the options and not the only one

    • @nathanstatham
      @nathanstatham Před 9 měsíci

      😮 what? That’s a pretty big deal. I didn’t know about that. Have you checked it out with a tuner to see how out of tune it is?

    • @6oundStudio
      @6oundStudio Před 9 měsíci +1

      yeah my friend rendered me some files and later we've checked it out via discord stream. i think it's normal for a bass to be slightly detuned in real life, but many of the notes were like 20-30 cents off, and I thought it was weird. but Nolly said that it was his third attempt at sampling his bass so I'm more than sure that he is aware of it and probably did it to make it sound more realistic. I guess it works good enough for all the people that reviewed it, but I like my low end to be spot on@@nathanstatham

      there were no guitars, there was a DI, two different tuners and Melodyne. I'm just saying what I'm hearing and seeing, no hate or lying. I really like Nolly as a producer and use some of his stuff all the time. But at the same time I don't feel the need to prove anything to anyone, I've just voiced my opinion on the bass based on my experience with it@@YeahButStilll
