  • In this video I show you how to repair a Meta Quest 3 suffering from "Black screen of death".
If a factory reset doesn't solve the issue then it's a hardware issue, which I tackle in this video.
This is only the second time I've taken a Quest 3 apart so I use previous experience working with the Quest 2 to fix it.

Great video... You can almost make a non approved tech manual from the details you provided.

Hello! you are a very cool specialist - a deductive method like Sherlock Holmes and all that!
Maybe you've encountered such a problem (maybe on Oculus 2?) - a black screen, as if there was no power going to it. The oculus turns on, the indicator lights up, there is sound in the headphones, the joysticks are detected and if you press the buttons, you can hear that there is a reaction in the menu. You can even start a game at random. But the lenses are completely dark. When you take off your glasses, they turn off (the music fades out) - when you put them on, you can see a white flicker in the lenses for half a second, but then darkness again.
If you go to the menu (power and volume) - there is the same darkness.
I reset it to factory settings - same darkness. The glasses don’t seem to have been dropped or broken, but maybe someone is hiding something :)
What could be the problem, do you think?

Hi. Thank you for the comment! 😄 If I had to guess I would say it sounds like the screen is faulty. In the Quest 2 it is one screen shared between the two lenses.
Or it could be the screen connector on the motherboard that isn't connected properly. Did the headset get bumped recently?

Thank you for the video. Got the same problem of black screen after only 3 weeks of use. i was not able to factory reset at all. I send it back to get fixed. Please, can you explain what i could do to prevent it ? I really don't know the cause, but i suspect the sweating mayby? Thank you!

@@patsymorency5751 Hi Patsy. The cause of this one was impact damage but in most cases it just seems to be component failure over time, so I'm not sure how possible it is to prevent

    Hi, very skilled.
I enjoyed the video and was well impressed with all of the information given.
I would not have suspected the camera but as soon as I seen the physical damage that was it.
Wonder if the camera failed due to the bash or did it just get to hot without the heat sink and fail?
    Thanks

      Hi Dave, thanks!
By what the customer told me it sounded like the unit wasn't really working right after the drop so I'd guess the thump is what did the damage. But then again maybe the heat builds up on them quick enough to cause problems right away.
Next time I have one on my bench I'll put the thermal camera on it for curiosity sake

    Good job man.
I have a quest 3 with the same issue, do you think replacing the cameras would fix it as well? what about the depth sensor and the camera sensors on top do they not cause this issue if damaged?

      @ryansrepairslk  Před 2 měsíci +1

@@Mustafa_Alqaseer As far as I can tell any one of these cameras/sensors will cause this issue when damaged or removed. But unfortunately I haven't been able to find a way to test for a faulty camera without just replacing each one and testing the unit.
I got lucky and the faulty camera in this video had actual physical damage

    • @Mustafa_Alqaseer

Unfortunately I only found the cameras on the bottom online which seem to be the same as the side cameras, and didn’t find the depth sensor and the top cameras/sensors. I guess I could gamble and get these cameras and hope it’s their fault.
