  • A woman has shared a “genius” hack using tin foil and a £1 cleaning paste to clean her filthy oven door - and it takes just two minutes.
Sarah Lawson, 33, from Northamptonshire, was left in a pickle when she went to clean her oven and didn’t have a scourer to hand.
In a pinch, she grabbed some tin foil and scrunched it up as a makeshift device.
She paired the foil with some The Pink Stuff Miracle Cleaning Paste - which costs £1 and is available from most supermarkets - and got to work on her filthy oven glass.
Within just two minutes, she was stunned to see the stubborn dirt had completely lifted, leaving her oven looking good as new.
“I didn’t have a scour to hand and thought ‘what’s the next best thing?’ - tin foil,” Sarah, a social media assistant, told Jam Press.
“I wasn’t worried [about scratching the glass] because I didn’t have to use too much pressure for it to work well.
“It only took me two minutes and I love the finished look - I can now see my Yorkshire puddings rise.”
Sarah took to Facebook to share the top tip, where she has received more than 1,400 likes and 600 comments so far from people debating the hack.
One impressed fan said: “Omg I’ve just tried it on my old knackered cooker n it works a treat, thank you for showing us for future reference and lovely n clean over doors.” [sic]
“Omg looks so quick and as well,” another person commented.
Someone else said: “I’m gonna give this a whirl thanks.”
Another person described the trick as “magic”, while others were intrigued by the idea of using tin foil to clean.
“Tin foil and pink stuff is amazing for cleaning ovens, I’ve used this method for years,” one person said.
Another person said: “Absolute beauty, cheers for that.”
“Thank u, finally someone has posted a video on how to do it, I shall definitely try this,” said another viewer. [sic]
Someone else agreed: “Wow I know what I’m doing tomorrow, thank you for sharing.”
“I shall go do this now, I have both of these things and an oven in desperate need of a clean,” one person said.
One person who tested the method said they had done their “really bad” oven door in just 10 minutes and thanked Sarah for the “brilliant” tip.
Another person who tried the hack said their oven was “like new” afterwards.
While hundreds of comments were from people desperate to try it out for themselves, other viewers warned that the abrasive cleaner should not be used on oven glass and it can cause tiny scratches that may weaken the glass.
One person said: “Be careful. I’ve seen heaps of people post about their shattered glass after this.”
“People have had their ovens explore after using this on glass - I would strongly advise against this,” another person warned.
