Business jets have always been about saving time, and they’ve improved upon that. Time is the only thing we can’t make more of. I feel so fortunate to be able to help train the maintenance crew on how to keep this aircraft dispatch ready every time. 🔧 👨🏼🔧🛩
Normal planes cruise at 550mph. This plane flies at 750mph. Concorde flew at 1350mph - launched 53 years ago, we have still got a lot of catching up to do.
This went supersonic while falling (descending) probably for a few seconds or mins. Concord used to fly at twice the speed of sound during its entire cruising. This is more like you reaching a few more mph while going downhill in a car.
The Concorde was unsafe and the governments accepted the risk and allowed it to operate with significantly reduced safety requirements. The Concorde also used a lot more fuel than anything used today, and required special treatment at every airport it went to because it could not wait in line for anything or it would burn too much fuel and or overheat. We have already far exceeded the Concorde.
@@hewhohasnoidentity4377 And the Concorde never turned a profit as an operating airliner. The Concorde was just a byproduct of programs like the xb-70 and the B-58. We don’t use those airplanes anymore either. There is a reason. They are all obsolete.
It doesn't go 750 mph. It can achieve Mach 0.94, AT ALTITUDE, where the air density and speed of sound are lower. Mach 0.94 at the altitude this jet will fly at (probably over 45,000 ft) is 620 mph. Dipshit reporters gushing about new technology don't know the difference...
@@jjones6606 In today's dollars, the Concorde cost over 20 billion to develop, a cost written off by the British and French governments. If you factor that in to the Concorde's operating economics, it not only "never turned a profit" was an utter financial black hole to the nth power!
I flew on BA Concorde G-BOAF from Heathrow to JFK in 2002. We did it in 3 hours and 29 minutes, at a sustained cruise speed of M.2.03. Did you know there were 20 Concordes in all? Two prototypes, four development ships, and 14 built for Air France and BA. All but two survive.
7 are in the UK, 6 are in France, 3 are in the US, 1 in Germany, and 1 in Barbados. Since they've stopped flying, I've seen 3, and been inside 1. I never kept track of how many in the air. Probably because I never expected it would end.
@@dahawk8574 I flew in one, and have been on board at least six others. I saw all 20 of them, the last being during a museum tour at Toulouse about ten years ago.
Lucky man. By the time I made enough to afford it, Concorde was already decommissioned. The last time I saw G-BOAD it was being gutted at the Floyd Bennett airfield in Flatbush Brooklyn to prepare it for the museum.
It's just another toy for rich folk to spend their cash on. I doubt that they even get to fly it themselves. What's the point of having a private jet if you can't fly it yourself?
I saw the photo-shoot flight over the coast about a week ago. They're very beautiful. For a couple of days (at magic hour) several planes headed out. I thought they were naval/military but didn't recognize them.
Thank you, John. You will be one of the first passengers on my new jet after I purchase it. Just don't tell anyone how I like to have my way with members of the cabin crew.

So it (0.96) goes 2% faster than what’s already out there (0.94). And it once went above mach 1 in testing but it probably won’t be supposed to when it’s released to buyers. ….Cool.
The F-86 would go supersonic in a dive too and in fact it went supersonic for three pilots (one was an RAF guy on secondment) *before* Chucky did it officially in the rocket dropped from a bomber.
@@josephking6515 hey , didn't know that . So Jaeger wasn't the first ? And most modern airliners chug around at under .8 mach . The 747 being one of the few exceptions with .84 mach .
The Citation X also went supersonic during testing, it's just that Cessna didn't make a big fuss about it because they didn't want the operators of the craft to attempt it. Bombardier may regret this because having said that this plane can go that fast someone is eventually going to try to take them up on it.
If the plane is rated at a max speed of 0.94, it can hardly be called Supersonic. If it can only achieve it under very few circumstances, it's not much more impressive than regular passenger craft. It has pretty impressive range, I'll give it that.

So, not even half the speed of a plane designed 60 years ago by the French and British that could fly 100 hundred people. Talk about the achievement of the century
Basically as fast as you can go without breaking the sound barrier. Didn’t Boeing already say it’s not worth it. They have a design last I checked. Forget the name
Correct - this plane is just pushing the upper ends of transonic flight. And yes, it generally isn't worth it; supersonic aircraft are a lot more expensive to design, build, and operate than their subsonic/transonic equivalents (largely attributable to drag above Mach). Boeing was working the 2707 in the 70's, but opted not to produce it because of the flimsy business case. Nevertheless, they (and Airbus) are constantly studying faster transonic and supersonic options.
It went supersonic while diving during a flight test, which is nothing exceptional for sub-sonic planes. I get the feeling that this entire piece is the result of clever people at Bombardier's marketing department, exploiting CNN's lack of knowledge, in order to get some free publicity for their latest business jet...

Except that the reasons for both are _well_ known: Outrageously and obscenely expensive. Another example of the news media broadcasting info that they do not undersand! I personally have flown inexcess of Mach 1.0 as a test pilot for Boeing on the GE powered 747 -400 while performing FAA required flutter testing. The described video was just that. My chase plane was a supersonic. T38 Talon. Once you define the max allowable Mach speed you will market the airplane to fly operationally ,you must demonstrate to FAA / EASA flutter free flight at a speed somewhere around 30 percent higher or Max design Mach number. In no way will this aircraft fly operationally above most likely Mach 9.4 and most likely fly substantially below that to achieve its cruise range, with the exception of a late dash to the finish line. I believe if you look at all ICAO rules there is very little airspace that flying supersonic is allowed. or operationally practical. Mike Hewett Retired Boeing Test Pilot
Why cant I report this youtube video? Can you really only report something from the home page before you click on it? Dear god how youtube has declined
The high speed does NOT equate to more range on the same amount of fuel (@2:10), due to the laws of aerodynamics and fluid flow, the optimum speed for lowest fuel burn is around mach 0.84, which is where most commercial airliners fly now. I have not looked up the "owner's manual" for the global 8000, but I am willing to bet that speed for optimum long range cruise, is mach 0.84 ± 0.03. I do agree that the maximum speed of 0.94 is for bragging rights. The top of the line Gulf-stream is nearly identical.

Yeah, it's a bunch of nonsense hype. The Gulfstream G650ER has a 'long range' cruise speed of M 0.85, and a maximum cruise speed of M 0.90. At 85% the speed of sound, its range is 7500 nautical miles. Increase to Mach .9, range drops to 5000 nautical miles. The upshot? At maximum cruise speed, you burn 50% more fuel to save about 35 minutes on a ten hour journey. The cost to do that? 2400 extra gallons of jet fuel, at ~$4 a gallon, about 10,000 bucks. Also, the tag for the video is misleading. The jet went supersonic in a controlled dive, not in level flight. Idiot reporters gushing about nothing...
There is no possibility that this aircraft design could safely pass mach1, the click bait headline says it went supersonic, but it didn't, because its still intact.

The main reason that supersonic passenger jets are not a thing is the BOOM of passing the sound barrier. It's super loud. And it's less of a pop, more of a sustained roar. Over the Atlantic it's not such a big deal, but over the areas where people live it is unacceptable.
No, the main reason that SST's are 'not a thing' is that SST's burn THREE TIMES AS MUCH FUEL to do the same job, get a passenger from point A to point B. This is a Global 7500 marketed as 8000 with larger fuel tanks. Same cabin. Actual typical cruise speed iof Mach 0.85 which si pretty standard. The 0.94 is when you're really late and are willing to spend $$$ on fuel to go faster, sacrificing range. The supersonic bit was during a flight test of the Global 7500 during descent, not sustained flight speed. Many other jets make this test to ensure they don't break up. What is left of Bombardier has kept the debts of the former Bombardier (trains + CRJ + C-Series + Dash-8 + aerostructures) when its assets were liquidated, but with only a couple business jets left and no money to develop a totally ew jet (developping the Global 7500 at same time as Lear 85 and the C-Series is what brought Bombardier down, so it is ironic that all that is left is the one jet that rbough the company down. Shareholders did not see a penny from the transfer of C-Series to Québec govt and Airbus, sale of trains to Alstom, sale of ex deHavilland planes to deHavilland Canada or sale of discontinued CRJ program maintenance contracts to Mitsubishi. The 8000 is just a PR exercise to market the 7500 as a new plane. It's just an uprated 7500 and Bombardier,s presentation confirmed that onwers of 7500 jets can get theirs uprated to become 8000.
It's actually pretty smart from Bombardier. 4% increased efficientcy from the engine, coupled with more fuel allows it to surpass Gulfstream in terms of range and max speed. Gulstream will have to spend WAY MORE money to beat the Global 8000. A genious move from Bombardier, for little costs.
@@erictremblay4940 It's just an uprated 7500. Paperwork for IGW and I think additional fuel tank. Speed and engines are exactly the same. And the "exceeded mach 1" test was done on a 7500. This is why onwers of 7500 can get the paperwork to upgrade their planes to 8000. (and new sales will be of the 8000 instead of 7500. Cruise speed is mach .85 on both 7500 and 8000. The 7500 was certfied to be purshef to .92 while the 8000 will have it to .94 as max allowable speed. Again, paperwork.
@@jfmezei -->Again, It's exactly the reason why it's a genious move from Bombardier !!!

It’s part of flight testing. You have to exceed the aircraft operating limitations to ensure you have safety margins.
Amazing
She said, “moist.”
I thought to be supersonic, M>=1? This is 0.94, not quite there yet sorry
It went supersonic while diving during a flight test, which is nothing exceptional for sub-sonic planes. I get the feeling that this entire piece is the result of clever people at Bombardier's marketing department, exploiting CNN's lack of knowledge, in order to get some free publicity for their latest business jet...
This is America, 22 years after Concorde stopped flying the best America can come up with is a plane half as fast that carries a 1/3 of passengers and they still try and make it sound better. 👏👏👏 USA 🤭

The Concord was a legendary plane.
Just like going to the moon, unrepeatable for unknown reasons.
What...?
The moon has been landed on many, many, many times by many different countries. The first moon landing was just the one everyone talks about because... it was the first. So...
It’s not unrepeatable and there’re reasons the Concorde was retired. It’s just far too inefficient for airlines to operate them profitably
Except that the reasons for both are _well_ known:
Outrageously and obscenely expensive. In the case of Concorde, unjustifiable ticket prices even after the taxpayers got soaked by their govt selling each plane to the airlines for £1 per jet. And in the case of Apollo, astronomical costs that make Concorde look like a disposable toy.
Legendary shitty in every aspect except speed.

Yea the amount of fuel consumed goes up exponentially, you'd think they would have looked this up before hand
We honestly have tp see the drag coefficient.

@@johnsmithe4656 I'm aware, I'm actually a physicist and by look up I also meant consult an expert. You are right though, It does seem more like a commercial than an actual piece of news.

Boom Supersonic is a good bet for now.
It will fly into space
The main reason that supersonic passenger jets are not a thing is the BOOM of passing the sound barrier. It's super loud. And it's less of a pop, more of a sustained roar. Over the Atlantic it's not such a big deal, but over the areas where people live it is unacceptable.
No, the main reason that SST's are 'not a thing' is that SST's burn THREE TIMES AS MUCH FUEL to do the same job, get a passenger from point A to point B. When the Concorde was designed in the 60's, oil/jet fuel was dirt-cheap so it wasn't an issue. Not so today. And the cost of fuel is only gonna rise...

Cnn needs to talk about Ecosia they are a search engine that plants tress.
@@jfmezei
-->Again, It's exactly the reason why it's a genious move from Bombardier !!!
The Global 7500's frame "as is" (particularly the wings) had sufficient spare capacity to allow an increased range + increased speed - with the help of better tweaked engines generating 4% better efficiency. (I agree, all this is achieved via software mods)
And again, Gulfstream will have to spend WAY MORE money to beat this Global "8000"
