During their breaks they would spend time on their solo works.
Freddie released two albums, one in 85 and the other in 88.
In fact, Roger was the first one to start a solo career, releasing a single in 77, and 6 solo albums in 81, 84, 94, 98, 2013 and 2021, and he also made 3 albums with his side-band The Cross, in 88, 90, and 91.
Brian released 4 albums, one in 1983 (mini-album), one in 92, other in 98 and the last one in 2000 (soundtrak album).
John participated in many collaborations, but didn't really invested in a solo career, because he says he's not able to sing, but he released a single in 86 with a band he created, called The Immortals.

I went to see Queen in 1985 Melbourne's first concert and everything went wrong like 2 hours late to get on stage and Freddy's mike braking up in Bohemian Rhapsody. Still a great concert

their break was more 82 to part of 83, I'm thinking. After Hot Space. Except for Freddie, they all had families. By 1982, John had 4 children (he has 6 total). Roger had 1 (he has 5 total). Brian had 2 (he has 3 total). There are lots of fun interviews to be had. You can find entertaining ones.

    Hi Justin,
It was during this time that Freddie also did one of my FAVORITE solo interviews, a quite lengthy one with Molly Meldrum (Molly is the fellow in the cowboy hat, interviewing the other three band members at 3:17) while in Australia. (Molly was an acquaintance of Freddie's; he also did an excellent solo interview with him in the late 70s, around 1977, I think.)

I would like to do all the documentary on Freddie’s life from his birth. He was born in Zanzibar which is now Tanzania. Each band member has a doc, even back when they were young kids and teens. All members have degrees It’s a great way to feel like you can follow these guys we have learned to love

I never cared about videos, it was all about the music. In Queen's case the music industry went after Queen big time, they were over the top in their hate, calling Queen the first fascist band, all lies, but they were out to destroy the band. So the members were all very strong guys, they just moved forward, they knew it was the fans that mattered, and they always treated the fans as family.

Ah yes, pop stardom life of the 80's. See what you missed out on, Justin? 😀 Re: making videos, it's not like anybody had a choice. Videos had become such a huge and important part of marketing your music that they were mandatory. The more the better. Some bands would make 3-4 per album around this time period, so it's no wonder some weren't exactly brilliant pieces of art.

Have seen this one many a time. Typical Entertainment Tonight-style interviews. Roger, with the shades. lol He was and is a great drummer, vocalist, and composer, but I alwaya got the feeling that the music part was just a way for him to be the life of the party. He was the "rock star" of the quartet, Queen's Lars Ulrich. Just the impression I've always gotten.

Freddie (when not on stage) maybe doesn't like to show his teeth, and learned to talk that way? Or maybe it's how people with double front teeth talk?

Yeah he was super insecure about it in personal life. He would always cover his mouth when smiling too.

I was going to say the same: Freddie was always self-conscious about his teeth (except when singing or being in a comfortable situation w just his friends).

Everyone except Freddie had families. Their marriages all took a hit besides their being exhausted.

Damn. Roger. Was Ireland-bashing still acceptable as late as 1985? (My English grandfather was deeply prejudicial against Ireland....). Maybe he thought he could get away with it in Australia? I guess 1985 was still before we had the long-lasting peace with IRA and Sinn Fien (sp?) that has thankfully held up to today, so maybe Roger was impacted personally somehow from that conflict back then...

Plenty of British bashing in Ireland and, as always, from 'Irish' Americans in recent times. You don't think there's been deeply prejudicial feeling against against the common British people (normally towards the English no doubt, as considered non 'celtic')?
And in 85 I'm not sure the US had even stopped funding the IRA yet, and the entire British government was bombed in 84. Eventually by the early 90s the Irish government at least dropped non democratic claims to own Northern Ireland, though even now they still claim the people there are all Irish.

The importance of the videos? Yep, that's definitely 1985 - lol. Wait. wasn't Kim Carnes and Dexxie's Midnight Runners around that time? 😆

This album maybe got alot of press because it showed "Queen is back" or "Queen still has it" - the previous album Hot Space is probably what most fans consider the weakest album, probably with almost no cult fans at all (in contrast to Rush HYF, where I'm a cult fan, and have company)

      @yar9333 Před 10 měsíci

Hot Space. Certainly some bad songs on it (Body Languages is horrendous ) but, I’m one of those cult followers lol. Love Back Chat and Cool Cat both Deacon songs and Staying Power which has terrible lyrics but I’ve always loved the groove. It was basically Queens disco album after disco had died. Pretty weak album overall but a guilty pleasure for me. 😂

@@yar9333 yeah. dig wat ur saying. It's not like I totally harsh on this album (Under Pressure, so there's that), it's still Queen, so you're not losing with any album... but it just didn't stand up to everything before and after...
