  • How Central Door Lock Actuators and Door Lock Relays Work In Detail.

    Here are some of the ways that you can unlock car doors:
    With a key
    By pressing the unlock button inside the car
    By using the combination lock on the outside of the door
    By pulling up the knob on the inside of the door
    With a keyless-entry remote control
    By a signal from a control center
    In some cars that have power door locks, the lock/unlock switch actually sends power to the actuators that unlock the door. But in more complicated systems that have several ways to lock and unlock the doors, the body controller decides when to do the unlocking.
    The body controller is a computer in your car. It takes care of a lot of the little things that make your car friendlier -- for instance, it makes sure the interior lights stay on until you start the car, and it beeps at you if you leave your headlights on or leave the keys in the ignition.
    In the case of power door locks, the body controller monitors all of the possible sources of an "unlock" or "lock" signal. It monitors a door-mounted touchpad and unlocks the doors when the correct code is entered. It monitors a radio frequency and unlocks the doors when it receives the correct digital code from the radio transmitter in your key fob, and also monitors the switches inside the car. When it receives a signal from any of these sources, it provides power to the actuator that unlocks or locks the doors.

    Purchased and installed a Scytek alarm w/central locking (2-5 wire actuators and 2 -2 wire actuators). Worked great for 3 years then my driver side actuator went out. Could not find the exact brand/model but I found a nearly identical uxcell actuator. Did not have to drill new holes , just removed the bad one and put the new one in it’s exact place. Problem is when I plugged it in (5 wire color code exact: green to green, black to black etc..) the driver door is doing exactly opposite what the other three doors are doing. When it locks all three doors unlock and vice versa? Any advise? Please help!

    Hi, thanks for the reply, but when manual switch used, all motors work perfectly, no wurring sound of sluggish moved of the lock/unlock pins..Its only when you use key (& remote) to unlock the 2nd turn sometimes does not unlock the other doors, and the crazy behavior of auto locking all doors when engine starts.Could be bad contacts at key switch, or bad relay contacts...or do you still think the driver motor is the culprit....thanks

      Yes, that is the relay control module. You may want to check if your master door actuator travels fully up causing the slave motors not to unlock, or of course that relay could of died too..

    I’m installing something similar in a classic vehicle. The problem I am having is that due to mounting location limitations for the actuator and the way my door latch works, once installed my remote button will operate opposite what it should. The lock button will cause the actuator to pull down on the latch locking mechanism, essentially the unlock position of the latch. If I press the unlock button on the remote it will push the actuator up and lock the latch. I want to reverse the operation of the actuator so that it does opposite of what it does now. I have tried reversing the green and blue wires but that does not work. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.

My civic has a pulse lock signal, 0 on meter then flashes 11volt real quick the back to 0. I'm wanting to add a led scanner to come on with my factory alarm, lock and shut off when unlocked, since I don't have a constant 12volt signal from switch or a negative switch it won't allow the relay to stay open to send power to light, is there a pulse relay that will open and close with just recieving a pulse

However when I power this kit up the the actuators just constantly click and pulse. However if I remove the brown and white cables from the masters the kit works fine apart from the fact I cannot lock all the doors buy pushing down on one of the master switches. @@Lesscoelectronics -- Which would mean that in a typical scenario of you taking a trip to go to work or run an errand, it would last over 68 years (if you don't lock your car while driving). This is assuming a scenario where you go out to your car, press the unlock button (#1), drive to your destination, press the lock button (#2), spend time at work / go into the store, return to car and press unlock button (#3), drive home, get out of vehicle, press lock button (#4).
      If you lock your vehicle while you are driving, then the number of activations of the lock probably doubles...

      -- Start driving, press lock button (#2)

    when you install this kit do you have to put the power wire directly to the battery?

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  Před 8 lety

      no, you can grab it anywhere it's convenient. It's not a big amperage draw.

      +Russel Helendro Daoang it'll work all the doors by moving the driver door up and down by hand but thats about it without remotes.

    Hi my vw t4 central locking stopped working.it was connected to an auto watch alarm by installer.the old alarm malfunctioned .new alarm just a year old.i checked wiring diagram on alarm and the fuse had blown on white wire that went to siren according to diagram autowatch 346rl.also I checked motor in drivers door.only 2 wires connected .i do not have master switch on door.think maybe control unit behind dash .the drivers motor worked ok direct to battery .the alarm still arms disarms and clicks ok inside alarm module an siren still bleeps even though fuse gone.replaced fuse an blew again .its 20year old van .have checked all fuses .think relay on electric windows central locking paired .any help appreciate it .thanks.stay safe

    I have an issue with one of these. All was working but now the drivers side does not control the other doors. I also note only the lock works on drivers door using key fob and I notice resistance when using manual switch on unlock. I also hear a click from the box on lock but not unlock on drivers side. I have a 5 wire for both front doors and the passenger controls all doors fine including unlock and lock on drivers door. I do note the “pro” install has all 5 wires on both doors connected and it is going to an alarm, which I thought meant 3 of the wires were not used (instructions say they are for controlled switching without an alarm so I don’t know).
    I have researched this for hours tonight and you seem to be the only person who understands all the parts and how they function. So I am hoping you have some ideas for me that do not require getting under my dash and trying to follow this guys wiring.
    I appreciate your help and time. I have no idea how to see a response but I will come back here and look for a response. Thanks.

      the master (driver) side actuator isnt fully traveling, or the brown or white leads are loose or disconnected to power the slave motors.

    Hi, thanks for the great info here. I have a question. Is it possible to add a 5th actuator as a slave? so it would be 2 masters and 3 slaves. or is a second relay necessary for that type of setup? thanks

    • @Lesscoelectronics
      @Lesscoelectronics  Před 9 lety +1

      yes, just tap into any of the existing slave motors and it'll be just fine.
