  • Here we see the latest Caledonian MacBrayne ferries to operate the Rothesay -- Wemyys Bay service at Rothesay pier.
The MV Argyll (2007) is approaching the new stern loading link span (formerly known as berth no3) and the MV Bute (2005) is waiting at the berth where the side loading link span used to be (formerly known as berth no2).
Both vessels were built at the Remontowa shipyard in Poland and are fitted with Azipod electrically driven propellers mounted on a steerable pod protruding beneath the hull, one located forward and one located aft.
These two vessels now solely operate the Rothesay-Wemyss bay service. Their predecessors MV Jupiter & MV Juno were both scrapped in 2011. The Juno being scrapped at Rosneath in the Gareloch and the Jupiter towed to Esbjerg in Denmark .The last of the "Streakers" as they were affectionately known MV Saturn now lies laid up in Rosneath awaiting her fate. It is highly unlikely that she will see active service again.
Rothesay pier has undergone major re-construction in the last few years. The approaches to Rothesay pier have also changed to accommodate these new vessels as has the installation of new flood defence systems.
For comparison please follow this link to compare the changes to Rothesay pier that have been made since 2003.
