From some research I have done, the diode lasers will not work will on products like aluminum because it will not absorb the laser, a CO2 wild be needed for this. I believe there is some sort of spray that can be applied to help with this that cleans off.

Awesome video! Including spicer designs. Doug should have come zooming up the driveway with his new toy. 😂 but, that would be great to cut out patterns of say a truck and wheels out of wood like a kit and work with your son putting the parts together and making it. Keep up the good work

Adam, if you want to engrave hot roll steel you can soak the cut pieces in a bucket of plain vinegar for 24 hours and it removes the mill scale, looks nice underneath too, love the channel.
Cool. I appreciate he warned me as I do prefer at least PG channels. I appreciate you keeping it clean, Adam. I watch you, just a few acres farm, and farmer tyler ranch, all clean (among others.. I watch my channel sometimes, too. 😁). IK that's not important to everyone, but it is to some of us and I appreciate him forewarning us. I will check his channel out nonetheless, maybe it's occasional and not all the time like some channels. (not a prude, just don't enjoy a lot of that all the time.)

Great job Adam, a quick woodwork tip. When glueing up boards place a clamp over boards at each end where the boards meet, this will stop any vertical slipping of the boards whilst you tighten other clamps.

Awesome like you mentioned your only limitations are your imagination. I’ve used them to make unique wedding gifts. I remember as a kid I got a Christmas Gift that was a wood burning set, basically a pattern, wood and a soldering iron it was really slow, it’s amazing how far we have come. Your wealth of Friendships is one of your unique strengths. 😊👍👍👍

Cool, bringing the laser to the project vs taking the project to the very large laser engraver. I like it.
Nice work with the benchtop. When laser engraving in metals like stainless steel we use a spraycoat to make the laser etch. Check out Cermark laser marker metal spray or epilog laser spray. I use cermark and it is like thick spraypaint. Dries quick and cleans off with water after engraving.
That could be a nice way to produce some original, personalized, small-run merch. Thin plywood credit card-sized calling cards for handouts at events. You can engrave and cut these out after engraving a sheet or individually. The same can be done with toasters. You can leave the cutouts as they come or spruce up the sides with a belt sander.
Another option, use strips or sheets of coated aluminum, and make calling card, name tags, or even name signs/house numbers for front doors/postboxes. Engrave them, cut to size with tin snips or a metal cutter, and sand the sides to remove sharp edges.
People that want specific designs could offer their own designs for all of the above. This could be a nice side hustle for someone. I think April Wilkerson did a few videos on her channel about starting a small business this way, by advertising on several platforms and the effectiveness of those channels.
I know I'm 5 months back from live videos, I'm catching up fast. You asked for suggestions for your next engraving project... How about engraving the CZcams logo of each visiting CZcamsr who you collaborate with on the front of your wood cabinets. I always find my self look at and trying to figure out all the company decals Doug has on his cabinets. It's like a "Thank you", "memory wall" and a small unspoken plug for your guests each time the camera pans by. Just a thought. Great channel and great videos, keep up the good, decent, wholesome videos that are entertaining and educational.

Nice video, not sure if you did or not but whatever finish you put on the top, you need to put the same on the bottom and back edge. If not your wood top will try to cup from moisture imbalance.

The aluminum is probably just that reflective. Rather than absorb the light into heat, it reflects the light.

Polished aluminum is acting as a mirror. Even laser light will simply reflect. I suspect some kind of bath to dull the metal surface might let you mark it with your laser.

As a suggestion, it would be cool to engrave a bunch measurement templates on the top of the workbench for length, circles, angles. Maybe Doug could do that....

Nice Job Adam but you really need to seal the bottom too otherwise the bottom will expand/contract at a different rate than the top due to moisture in the air which can cause warping.
Definitely need to do a One Eyed Customs sign for Doug and all he has done for you!

The aluminium is an excellent conducter of heat and reflector so that is likely why it doesn't etch the ALU.

Adam I think it would have been better if you keeped the live edge on the front of the bench top to keep in the theme of your channel. That's only my view.

Thanks for the video Adam. Regarding the disclaimer about Kyle's channel. I've checked it out, but his video style isn't for me. I like his content, but don't enjoy the things he mentioned regarding language and putting his wife on display. So I choose not to watch. Thanks for being a channel I can feel good about watching and enjoy with my kids around.

The language is bleeped and its minimal. Id have to imagine youve cursed before like most people have. As far as my wife, Should i leave her at home when i take the family to the beach? I dont want to publicly “display” her in public with a bikini top. Lighten up and laugh a little. Thats all im trying to do on my channel.
