The possible reason for that is Kinnikuman being one of very few series that was able to break free from shonen jump and become its own property. Occasionally it’s able to make returns to shonen jump with one of specials so it seems their still in good terms.

The first game in this series had some *broken* synergies.
    - 6-koma SSJ Goku's Spirit Bomb is an attack which scales with the number of individual characters on your page.
    - 6-koma Sanji has Pose of Love, an attack boost that scales with the number of individual women on your page.
Use six koma on Goku, six on Sanji, and fill the rest of your page with 1-koma female characters, preferably ones that promote meter gain like Jolyne Cujoh and Nami.
Start the battle, fill your meter, tag to Sanji and boost, then tag to Goku and win instantly with a Spirit Bomb of Love.

Fun fact, this game even had a type triangle that resembled the Fire > Grass > Water triangle in Pokemon, which consisted of Power > Intelligence > Funny, which added even more layers to the game, and the fact some characters even had multiple versions of these types, it was so awesome how some characters like Bobobo where super effective against Goku, but could be beaten by Rukia, this game truly deserves another 2D sequel.

Also just mentioning some other broken strong characters:
We had Taikoubou 4, which was a strong zoner with some combo utility that could fit in any team really
Raoh, in most of his forms, had amazing damage and giant hitboxes
Kenshin 4 has a infinite combo as long as you got meter, by doing B, Up B, Up Y, Air B, Air Y, and then X stun super, then you repeat it until the guy dies.
Kenshin 5 is also pretty strong, because that same combo works on his X multi cut super, but it's not a infinite, just a strong combo.
While not that useful, a lot of characters got really strong mobility, so shout out to Fuusuke, who can kick platforms with his Air B to go even higher up, as well as an 2 hit Up Y that lets you choose 8 directions to go on the 2nd hit.
As well as Kazuki, from Buso Renkin, that can do something similar with his Lance Dash moves, even in the air.
While also not broken, a lot of characters can setup projectiles and traps, my favorite being Gintoki, because you can trow one of his dynamites with Air Y, fast fall, then jump, air dash and chase the opponent as they get exploded with another Air Y or an Air B.
But a broken side of this trap gameplay is Doctor Mashirito, with his chest trap and army of walking poops, he is the annoying zoner every fighting game needs.
I could honestly continue talking about every, little, tidbit, of cool stuff that i learnt in this game, just because of how much hours i spent playing it, but i guess i've said enough

Oh god, haven't heard about this series for _quite_ a while...
Thinking about it, the character panel sizes were similar to the Ratio system, effectively making the games a ratio-based Tag game before the system was adopted by the MvC2 Community, in a way. (It even has its own 4 gods equivalent: Kid Buu, Raoh, Edajima & Sasuke. All 4 takes up 7 panels _at least_ .)
Characters (Playable & assists) also come in 3 types: *Power/力* (red), *Smarts/知* (Green) and *Comedy/笑* (Yellow) and are effective against one another in a RPS system (力>知>笑>力>...).
A playable character is usually designated in one of those 3 types but has an 1 alt version that corresponds to another type according to their personalities (i.e. Goku is a Power-type that comes in various panel sizes from base in 4~5 panels, SS1 in 6~7 panels and Vegito in his 8-panel form but also has an alt version of his 4-panel self as a Comedy Type), so building your deck also comes with that caveat in mind.
It's a really fun and novel concept that gives the games *plenty* of personality.

    • @Dreikoo
      @Dreikoo Před 6 měsíci +2

Thing is, the higher cost panels weren't always better, like Ichigo 7 is usually thought of as better than 8 cause he can combo into his super without assists, Yoh 4 is way way way better than 5 and 6 so on and so forth, as the game developed it ended up being better to just have a bunch of 4s cause your inactive chars regain health while they're out of the fight so having the maximum amount of chars recovering ended up adding up, and you just covered more matchups that way too.

I'm not the best at fighters, but I'll get this game for my modded 3DS just because im a huge fan of comic history and especially the more lesser known ones. The fact that they acknowledged Jump's gag manga history unlike Jump Force already makes it based.

This game (or super stars I forget which) introduced me to the concept of counterplay with its weakness system (brawn>brain>funny>brawn) I was a super big Big 3 fan so of course I got the biggest Naruto and Luffy panels on my team. I thought I was hot shit. My friend goes “alright you asked for this” and kicked my ass with a Bobobo. What a time.

What a nice work you’re doing here. Even though I’ve never been best at any fighting game (maybe just Tekken 3 due to time spent on that title only) , the real added value to me has always been the ability to directly control one character’s powers and challenge strong opponents with as much characterisation as my chosen one. It’s engaging, exciting, and for sprites-based games, a delightful experience.
Can’t compare with anything else but some platforms and titles expanding same concept such as DBZ Kakarot. But, really, there’s something about classic fighting games that really draws imagination and pulls you right in the fray.

So, because I have a viz manga/shonen jump subscription, I'm excited to say I recognize double the amount of characters I would otherwise. There's popular manga, then what you think is "obscure" manga isn't actually that obscure. I'm going to have to go digging for a few of these, Nikyu and Pyu to Fuku, for example. Muhyo and Roji I read fully but wouldn't necessarily recommend. Big recommend for Neurogami Neuro, even though it has an amateur nature to it.
Also just fucking shoutouts to manga like "Tegami Bachi (Letter Bee)" and "Claymore"; which I don't think are in these but if you're looking for manga made with a lot of heart (which is a very meaningful quality outside of the technical skill of manga); go for it.
In general, a viz + shonen jump subscription is 6$ total. 3$ per. It's super super super worth it. The catalogues are huge, they're still adding manga as time goes on. Frieren is the star of the show for me right now in Viz; while Shonen has at least 8 I read every month.

absolutely love jump super/ultimate stars(also for j-stars victory vs. as well.:3) as the peak for not only being great super smash bros. esque games with their own identity but like it a gateway to shonen jump's just as colorful series as i remember being introduced to this after getting introduced to the shonen jump magazine at my school's book fair alongside cross epoch/a special of one piece, dragonball and kochikame's characters fighting enel.
i loved the manga theme, story(like you exploring worlds kh style with unique missions/intros showing off the series esp. dr. masharito from dr. slump being the main villain that i like more than the other jump games villains.),music & especially the koma system whether playable or assist representing shonen jump's cast the best(favorite being rangiku matsumoto with toshiro, the assist team ups in jus & even the entirety of jojo's bizarre adventure being shown through the koma system.) introducing me to so many series.
hope we get a successor to this game(or/also a film/ova in one piece stampede's art style.) & capcom vs. shonen jump as i'd recommend both these games.

Jump Super Stars just blew me away the first time I saw it. Like, it was such an ambitious title for the DS and a big deal for Shonen Jump fans. Forgetting online, I don't even have anyone to play this game with locally, but I still enjoyed it tremendously from both the fighting and collecting aspects.
I had a blast testing my own knowledge as a Shonen fans through unlocking the komas and trying to come up with my own ultimate team - in which, surprisingly, a team helmed by Nami from One Piece. After who knows how long, I managed to come up with an endless combo that allows me to stun lock and kill any opponent, without cheating of course and provided that I got the assist timing just right. I was so proud of myself, even though I had no one show off that feat to. XD
I wish they would make more games like this for the modern consoles, but alas, all the big companies are interested in nowadays are mostly AAA level games that just copies off other successful titles, and it's not like any Indie dev can just afford to get the rights to make a Jump Super Stars sequel...
Ah, we could have had not just Sakamoto vs Reborn but also Saitama vs Mash, Deku vs Yuji, etc. and undoubtedly, some of the best koma panels to unlock such as the legendary Kagurabachi! XD

Oh God, the memories. This game was my teenagehood. I played completely in Japanase, so as you can imagine, it was quite a confusing experience. Confusing, but fun as hell. This game was my first introduction to so many Jump series that today are some of my favorite manga. Also, fun story: JUS was my first exposure to Jojo's Bizarre Adventure, like 15 years before the modern anime adaptation. And basically, it spoiled me the end of Stardust Crusaders, and both Jotaro and DIO's powers. Oh well.

One of the interesting things I remember from online play were Japanese Piccolo players I would encounter that hunted down anyone using the big 3, and then taunted the rest of the match.
Also shout outs to the other heavy used supports of Shun 3-Koma the edge guard king and Satsuki 2-Koma for the sheer amount of healing.
